Tony Cairoli triumphs at the "Fiat Professional MXGP di Lombardia”

The thrilling race on the Ottobiano circuit highlighted all the eight-times World Champion's true grit.
The spectacular overtaking took place on the Fullback hill.
Fiat Professional was by Cairoli's side with the unstoppable Fullback and a special 4x4 version of Ducato: the partnership between rider and brand is based on authentic shared values, such as enthusiasm, determination and constant commitment.

Fiat Professional celebrates Tony Cairoli, genuine Italian sports icon and eight times World Champion, who won on the exciting Ottobiano circuit in the province of Pavia, Italy, for the eleventh appointment of the 2017 MXGP FIM Motocross World Championship. The Sicilian rider is now firmly leading the scoreboard with 431 points and is consolidating his world championship standing making the challenge for the ultimate title even more thrilling. The most recent win is particularly important for the champion because it was conquered on his home turf where he trains: the circuit is well-known and familiar to him and his many fans turned up to cheer him on.

Once again, Fiat Professional was by his side. The rider is brand ambassador and the two share many key values, such as enthusiasm, determination and constant commitment. Furthermore, for the second year running, Fiat Professional is also Official Sponsor of the exciting FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship. The motorsports event was also the opportunity to admire the unstoppable Fullback, the product hero of the official fleet of the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship which was recently named best new vehicle of the year by the monthly Za Rulem (Behind the Wheel). Another star of the Fiat Professional stand will be the Ducato 4x4 show vehicle, a new all-terrain all-wheel drive concept vehicle which expands the use of Ducato for work and for leisure. A Fullback "moparized" show vehicle will also be on display presenting new features: all-black rims, rollbar and bull bar in addition to rear double bar bumper.

These are tasters of the complete range of Fiat Professional, the first brand "born to be professional" with a line-up entirely dedicated to light transport, one hundred years of history and a one-of-a-kind baggage of experience in the world of commercial vehicles. The Fiat Professional brand is already a full liner, capable of taking on all the challenges of an increasingly completive market. The challenge attitude of the brand reflects that of eight-times World Champion Tony Cairoli, who has the same determination to win as ever.

After Italy, France and Germany, the "500 Forever Young Tour" arrived in Spain

  • The exclusive Fiat 500 special series to mark the 60th anniversary received a warm welcome in Madrid's Calle Jorge Juan zone.
  • View the video of the Spanish event at this link.

After the Italian, French and German stages, the "500 Forever Young Tour" celebrating the Fiat 500's 60th anniversary, reached Madrid in Spain. With just days to go until the model's actual birthday on 4 July, the tour is continuing to visit Europe's most beautiful squares, involving Fiat 500 fans and collectors of all ages. The inspiring "500 Forever Young Tour" forms part of a larger project, launched by the Fiat brand to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Fiat 500, an icon that maintains its identity while always remaining up to date. The involved cities in France, Germany and Spain, were dressed up and shot back to swinging Sixties with special stage sets, extensive rehearsals and enthusiastic staff, actors and extras. The successful event attracted over seven thousand spectators in the Spanish capital, which was lit up by the flashes of cameras and smartphones.

The Spanish stage took place on 22 June, bringing even more excitement to the lively Calle Jorge Juan zone, the heart of Madrid and one of its main urban entertainment areas. In the Salamanca district, very close to the Golden Mile, this zone has recently become a key location for gourmet food and fashion boutiques. On entering Calle Jorge Juan from Calle de Serrano, the large fashion and lifestyle-conscious crowd who thronged the zone were charmed by the Sixties Corner dedicated to the Fiat 500, with installations evoking the spirit of the Sixties, designed to show off the car's special 60th anniversary edition to best effect.

Fine design and the ability to be always trendy and up-to-date are two of the secrets behind the success and eternal youth of the Fiat 500, which was perfectly at home on the district's vibrant streets. The undeniable star of the event was the special series, which is premiering the exquisite "Dolcevita" two-tone body colour, in which Tri-Coat White combines with Pastel Ivory. And the exclusive special series received a film star's welcome from the visitors, many of whom took the opportunity to photograph it together with an historic Fiat 500 model on display beside it, completely at ease between the confectioner and ice-cream vendor in Sixties costumes, the little cart of flowers and the actors impersonating the paparazzi who were everywhere in the Dolce Vita era.

The Fiat 500 is the bestseller in nine countries and in the top three in another seven, and it has retained the same market share for 10 years. The Fiat icon's international character is reflected by the Jorge Juan district itself. The area was once home to Spain's National Geographic Institute, and in view of its relationship to seafaring and the great explorers, it has always been considered one of Madrid's most cosmopolitan zones. What's more, when the Spanish economy was opened up in the Sixties and Seventies, the top international fashion labels found this district the ideal location for their boutiques, establishing it as a trendy hotspot. Nowadays, Jorge Juan is an area of enchanting pedestrianised streets lined with fine neoclassical buildings, and the Fiat 500 provided a perfect match for the elegant stores and the bright, lively restaurants.

Next to the icon, visitors were able to admire a 124 Spider America, one of the limited edition of 124 cars that maintains the style and design of the 124 Sport Spider America. This exclusive version, in Magnetic Bronze colour, has been created starting from Lusso, the richest trim level in the 124 Spider range. Each of these cars is fitted with a numbered internal plaque in addition to its authenticity certificate. It has exclusive stylistic touches and an original vintage characterisation, as well as a lavish array of aesthetic and functional features.

The success of the last stage of the Forever Young Tour marks the start of the countdown to the celebrations on 4 July, when the Fiat 500 will star in a packed schedule of prestige initiatives and events to mark its sixtieth birthday.

Orders open for the new Fiat 500 Anniversario: a special gift to celebrate its 60th birthday

  • Orders open across Europe on June 29 for the Fiat 500 Anniversario, the new special edition dedicated to the next birthday of the 500 inspired by the Dolce Vita.
  • The 500 Anniversario offers new exclusive Riviera Green and Sicilia Orange body colours, exclusive interiors and vintage logos, chrome-plating and legendary 16-inch full rims.
  • The elegance of the car is sealed by the cursive "Anniversario" logo sported on the tailgate.
  • It is available in hatchback and convertible versions with a style inspired by the past but packed with cutting-edge technology thanks to the UconnectTM Link Plus Pack, which includes TFT 7-inch digital instrument panel, Uconnect 7-inch HD LIVE radio and Apple Car Play and Android AutoTM setup.
  • Standard features and prices may vary between countries, but the following information applies to all markets. More specific and detailed information is available on the local press websites.

While remaining very much true to itself, the Fiat 500 has often appeared with different but always exclusive looks: this is one of the secrets of its eternal youth. Its design has continued to be unmistakable and has fired the imagination of artists and fashion designers, who have given it elegant, exclusive and sporty interpretations. Key special series include, for example, the "500C by Gucci", the "500 by Diesel" and the recent 500 Riva, "The Smallest Yacht in the world". Different creative universes that have successfully converged on a much-loved, inspiring and amazing car.

So what better idea than to celebrate it with a new special series in the extraordinary occasion of its sixtieth birthday? After the Fiat 500-60esimo numbered and limited edition dedicated to its sixty years and presented at the Geneva Motor Show, which celebrates the most exclusive vocation of 500, here is the new Fiat 500 Anniversario, available for orders from June 29 to celebrate its birthday, which makes reference to the true democratic nature of the car.

It was on July 4, 1957 that the "great little car", the embodiment of mass car ownership, was launched in Turin. Its success was refreshed in 2007 and then in 2015, with this year witnessing the milestone of two million cars sold. The Fiat 500 Anniversario is a gift that 500 is making to its fans with a special series packed with special features at an affordable price. More specific and detailed information is available on the local press websites.

The Fiat 500 Anniversario is available both as a hatchback and as a convertible and honours the 1957 Italian-made icon with a contemporary re-interpretation of stylistic features that made it famous in the Dolce Vita years.

The stylistic details are a modern reworking of its great forerunner's unmistakable design signature.
The new special edition has a Sixties look that references some of the historic key features of the car, such as the two new, specific colours inspired by the liveries of the timeless icon, the chrome accents on the bonnet and mirror caps, the historic Fiat logos, and the 16-inch vintage style alloy rims or with an alternative a diamond finish design which recalls the spokes of classic car wheels. The elegance of the car is sealed by the cursive "Anniversario" logo sported on the tailgate.

Inside, every detail is designed to capture the carefree style and mood of the Sixties, but with an innovative touch. The new seats, in fabric with horizontal stripes in perfect Sixties style, piping and embroidered 500 logo, partnered with the Sicilia Orange and Riviera Green bodywork colours, effectively evoke the Dolce Vita years. The Fiat 500 has always had an inimitable look, and the Anniversario trim level is heir to this sophisticated vitality and verve, clearly expressed in the body-coloured dashboard. The trademark attention to details is clear in the "Anniversario" logo embroidered in a contrasting shade on the floor mats.

The vitality of the Sixties embraces latest-generation technology: the look may hint to the Dolce Vita, but from the technological point of view the new Fiat 500 Anniversario offers the best of the range in terms of comfort and connectivity. Customers can opt for the UconnectTM Link Plus pack, which includes the TFT 7-inch instrument panel, the Uconnect 7-inch HD LIVE radio, presetting for Apple Car Play and Android AutoTM, and integrated navigator with TomTom maps on request.
The range of engines is also complete, with petrol, LPG and Diesel units with powers from 69 to 105 HP.

July 4, Fiat 500's birthday, is coming soon and is a very special day every year. And there might be even more surprises in store...

FCA Heritage at the Cesana-Sestriere 2017

  • From 7 to 9 July, the legendary Cesana-Sestriere race will be held on the mountains of Olympic fame.
  • FCA Heritage will feature at this event with Fiat, alongside the latest productions.
  • At centre stage will be the Brand, which will celebrate the 60th birthday of its little car with a spectacular parade of vintage Fiat 500 and new Fiat 500 Anniversario.

The 36th edition of the Cesana-Sestriere race- Giovanni Agnelli Trophy- or "CE-SE", as it is known in the trade, is about to take off - born in1961 and now one of the key meetings of the world Vintage Motor Sports scene, also valid for the European and Italian classic cars Speed Hill Climbing championship. Over 120 pilots will test the spectacular 10.4 km circuit that climbs from 1,300m a.s.l. in Cesana Torinese, to 2,035 in Sestriere, both famous tourist destinations in the summer and winter season.

FCA Heritage, the Group department dedicated to promoting the historic legacy of FCA's Italian brands, will be at this major event, confirming its interest in this constantly growing sector, popular with all segments of contemporary society and a source of added value for the modern automotive industry. For more information please refer to www.fcaheritage.com.

At this event - which this year will be dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Fiat 500 - the public will be able to view some historical cars of the Turin-based auto maker, together with the latest novelties currently in production.

The new Fiat 500 Anniversario, in particular, will take the spotlight. This is the new special series developed as a tribute to the legendary 500, which will be sixty years old on 4th July, and that can be ordered from 29th June from any dealership in Europe. Whether sedan or convertible, the Fiat 500 bearing the "Anniversario" logo features a real Sixties look and some of the peculiarities of the classic car: from the Sicilia orange and Riviera green colours, inspired by the bodywork of the classic vehicle, to the chrome mirror and boot, 16" vintage or diamond-finished wheels reminiscent of the classic car's spokes, or the horizontal stripes upholstery, in full Sixties style.

The public will be able to view them in the exhibitions set up in Cesana and Sestrière, where they are shown alongside historical Fiat 500s, the special 60th Anniversary Fiat 500 series and the new 124 spider. The square by the City Hall in Cesana will also be the location of the FCA Heritage stand, offering restoration and certification services. On show at the stand, the 1955 Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile and the 1954 Fiat 8V will also take part in the dynamic Regularity Event: the former is a charming two-seater spider, with 1089 cc and 50 HP engine, which is also used for races like the Mille Miglia, while the Fiat 8V is sporty two-seater sedan, created to satisfy the needs of Italian gentleman drivers in the Fifties.

A fleet of five Fiat 124 Spider will take VIPs climbing from Cesana to Sestriere, while five Fiat Tipo will be made available for the judges.
There is more. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of its icon, Fiat organized a spectacular parade of 500 cars, including privately owned classic cars. Another tribute to this ageless model, now a symbol of Made in Italy across the world.

Below is a short description of the classic Fiat cars featured at the Cesana-Sestriere race:

Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile (1955)

Introduced at the Geneva car show in March 1955, the Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile is a charming two-seater spider designed by Fiat's Sezione Carrozzerie Speciali directed by Fabio Luigi Rapi. Manufactured to suit the American style favoured at the time, it features chrome grilles, protruding bumpers, panoramic windscreen, fluted classic steering wheel, reclining two-colour seater and tyres with white bands. Endowed with the same mechanics as the 1100/103 TV (Turismo Veloce), it has a powered up engine for brilliant dynamic performance. Furthermore, thanks to its independent front wheel suspensions and stabilizing bar, it guarantees reliable hold and smooth driving. Given its performance, the Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile has been often used for motor races, including the Mille Miglia. With only 142 cars manufactured, this vehicle is part of the FCA Heritage collection exhibited at the Centro Storico Fiat in Turin.

Fiat 8V (1954)

Following the Fiat 8V coupé limited edition, the auto maker introduced a prototype at the 1954 Turin car show, with its body built out of fibreglass (it only weighed 48.5 kg), an innovative material at the time. In a way, this marked the end of the brief career of the only sports car with eight cylinder engine ever made by Fiat. In total, 114 Fiat-8V cars were built.
The 8V coupé reflected Fiat's desire to conquer market shares in the luxury car segment. A prestigious engine, such as an eight-cylinder one, is normally needed for this segment. Technical director Dante Giacosa, who also developed the Fiat 500 a few years later, chose a newly designed engine with two four-cylinder blocks at a 70 degree angle on a common base: the "eightvee" was ready. The coupé was perfectly fit for the two-litre category, popular in Italy in the early Fifties' competitions, and Vittorio Valletta wanted to export it to the North American markets.
The 8V introduced in 1952, was the first Fiat model with independent suspensions. In addition to the models assembled with artisan care at the plant, whose body was designed by stylist Fabio Luigi Rapi, others were designed by the so called "body workers": Zagato, Vignale, Siata and Ghia among those who best interpreted the "Fiat-8V" theme.

Unstoppable Tony Cairoli wins again in Portugal:

  • The eight-times world champion keeps on winning making his own a key feature of Fullback, the product hero of the official fleet of the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship.
  • The recent success repeats last week's at the "Fiat Professional Fullback MXGP di Lombardia" and consolidates his leadership in the ranking.
  • Together with Tony Cairoli's exciting win, spectators could admire the Fullback pick-up and the new Talento at the stand set up by Fiat Professional, the Official Sponsor of the competition.

Tony Cairoli is unstoppable: not by chance, simply winning is not enough to become an Italian sports icon and being named world champion eight times. You need something else. By winning on the track in Agueda, Portugal, Tony Cairoli has consolidated his leadership in the ranking: he is now first with 478 points.

The Portugal GP is one of Tony's favourites. He obtained a good score here at his debut in the first championship season coming 5th in 2004. This result was followed by a first place in 2005, a third place in 2006 and a first place in 2007, in 2008 and in 2009. He came second in 2010 and in 2011; third in 2012 and second in 2013, for a total of nine consecutive podiums and no fewer than four wins, of which three in a row.

Enthusiasm, determination and constant dedication allow the Sicilian champion to stand out and are the values he shares with Fiat Professional. Not by chance, the brand picked him as ambassador and is by his side during this challenge which is tough and selective but also very rewarding. Furthermore, for the second year running, Fiat Professional is also Official Sponsor of the exciting FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship.

The event was also the opportunity to admire at the Fiat Professional stand the unstoppable Fullback, the product hero of the official fleet of the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship, which was recently named best new vehicle of the year by the monthly Za Rulem (Behind the Wheel). With its Italian style and bold looks, the new pick-up perfectly embodies the love for a challenge of Fiat Professional on the global market and Tony Cairoli's winning attitude: the ability to excel characterises the entire Fiat Professional range, which is the first brand "born to be professional" entirely dedicated to light transport customers.  By its side is Talento, the model that with its generous loading capacity is the ideal work mate for professionals in city streets and on major roads alike. It is characterised by its outstanding versatility and ability to adapt to different customer needs.

The brand can boast over one hundred years of history and a one-of-a-kind baggage of experience in the world of commercial vehicles. Completely refreshed in just two years, the Fiat Professional line-up today has the right answer for all transport mission needs because all segments are covered. All body types, load capacities and volumes, a complete choice of wheelbases, widths and height variants, in addition to high-efficiency engines and various fuels options (petrol, diesel, LPG and methane) are provided. What is more, the brand places assertive focus on "specialities", such as passenger transport and the world of converted vehicles.

The Fiat 500 acquired by The Museum of Modern Art in New York:

  • The Fiat 500 becomes a work of modern art and joins the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York. (http://press.moma.org/2017/06/acquisition-fiat-500/).
  • An extraordinary tribute to the artistic and cultural value of the Italian style icon in the world on its 60th birthday.

The best-loved car in Fiat's history, the icon that made Italians into car-owners, and worldwide ambassador for the country, celebrates its 60th birthday today with a special event that honours its history and the style and design that made it famous across the globe. Not by chance, it is joining the permanent collection of the MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art, in New York.

"While the Fiat 500 has unquestionably left its mark on automotive history, it is equally true that it has never been just a car", said Olivier François, Head of Fiat Brand and Chief Marketing Officer FCA. "In its 60 years of history, the 500 has transcended its material manifestation to enter the collective imagination and become an icon, which has now the honour of being certified by being acquired by MoMA in a tribute to its artistic and cultural value".

"The Fiat 500 is an icon of automotive history that fundamentally altered car design and production" said Martino Stierli, The Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at MoMA. "Adding this unpretentious masterpiece to our collection will allow us to broaden the story of automotive design as told by the Museum"

The model acquired by MoMA will be a 500 F series, the most popular 500 ever, made from 1965 to 1972. Fiat's "great little car" was an instant success worldwide, and the 18 HP of its 499.5 cm3 engine gave it a top speed of 95 km/h. Over 4,000,000 units were made from 1957 to 1975. From the New 500 in the late 50s, on to the Sport and then the D, both more powerful, followed by the F, which holds the record for the number produced, through to the more comfortable L, and finally the R.

The Fiat 500 is not just a symbol of mass car ownership. Over time, it has become a style and design icon. Unmistakable design has inspired the imagination of artists, who have responded with elegant, exclusive and sporty interpretations. It has achieved the feat of maintaining its identity while remaining youthful over 60 years of history and lifestyles, fashion and society. A successful car, but also a cultural phenomenon in centre stage for 60 years, never going out of fashion. With the launch of the new generation in 2007, the 500 appeared in a variety of original and cool interpretations, both hatchback and convertible, with an array of extraordinarily successful special editions (such as the 500 by Diesel, the 500 Gucci and the 500 Riva).

Success is reasserted by numbers: the Fiat 500 is the best-seller in Europe, ranking first in eight countries and among the first three in six others. The 2007 version won over 2,000,000 motorists in just 10 years and has reaped accolade after accolade since its debut, including Car of the Year and the Compasso d'oro design award.
The 500 is the symbol of Italian creativity which has always inspired artists and designers worldwide becoming an icon of beauty and art. Today, it makes another step forward becoming a work of art in its own right by the side of the other great icons of Italian design and yet again remaining "Forever Young".

Happy Birthday 500!

A commemorative stamp of the Fiat 500 was presented today in Turin

The postmarking ceremony celebrating the issue of a new commemorative stamp dedicated to the Fiat 500, on its 60th birthday, has just come to an end in the Mirafiori building in Turin. The event took place in the presence of Ivan Scalfarotto, Italian Deputy Minister for Economic Development; Giovanni Accusani, Head of Philatelic Department of Poste Italiane; Ivo Planeta, Operations Manager of Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato; Alfredo Altavilla, Chief Operating Officer FCA EMEA and Olivier François, Head of Fiat Brand and FCA Chief Marketing Officer.

This collector's item, produced in an edition of 1,000,000 and on sale from today, celebrates the model that made motoring history. With a value of 0.95 Euro, it is printed by Officina Carte Valori of the State Printing Office and Mint, and features the unmistakable outline of the classic Fiat 500 superimposed on that of the now equally famous current Fiat 500. The dark blue background with a band in the colours of the Italian flag near the top edge frames the dates 1957-2017 and the words "Fiat Nuova 500" in the same font as the 1957 advertising posters. It is a real miniature work of art, which celebrates the realization of a great dream of mobility and also of freedom.

The 500 is certainly a miracle of Italian design, but also, and above all, a car that has improved the lives of millions of people. It has accompanied the economic recovery, put Italy on four wheels and then it was exported all over the world. So much so that today, 80% of 500 cars are sold outside Italy and it is the leading car in Europe, first in 8 countries and on the podium in 6 more.

This is a special way of celebrating its birthday, precisely at the Mirafiori plant where the 500 was built way back in 1957. In the 60 years since then, the Fiat 500 has become a true icon thanks to its functionality and its innovative shape and technologies, which can be seen in its design, unmistakable bodywork and versatility of use. With a permanent place in the collective memory of mass-market products with a soul and a strong personality, for decades the 500 has been an object lesson in car design, influencing and shaping the forms and contents of most modern utility models. The 500 regained great cultural relevance for the entire automotive world in 2007, with a major step forward in technology and form enabling the new model to achieve worldwide success. An immensely valuable heritage that few car manufacturers can boast.

With 60 years of history behind it, the Fiat 500 is about to start another, long journey, maintaining its status as a symbol of the best Italian style. A democratic yet distinctive icon, destined to achieve ever-growing popularity and desirability worldwide, and to stay forever young, thanks to its evolution and the special series that have added value to the range over time.

The complete version of the Fiat 500 film, starring Adrien Brody is now on the web

  • After premiering yesterday evening on Italian TVs, the four-minute extended version of the "See you in the future" video tribute, which celebrates the sixty years of the 500, can be seen on YouTube, following this link and on all Fiat website home pages.
  • Almost 11 million Italians watched the TV preview last night and the film captured an extraordinary share of viewers.
  • Oscar-winner Adrien Brody returns to a role which captures his timeless appeal: his interpretation persuaded over the audience of Roman Polanski's "The Pianist", Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris" and Wes Anderson's "Grand Budapest Hotel".
  • The film is directed by Ago Panini and produced by Movie Magic, with the Italian actress Anna Manuelli.

Oscar-winner Adrien Brody is back on board the Fiat icon in the new international advertising campaign celebrating its sixtieth anniversary. The short, on which the advertisement of the Fiat 500 Anniversary special series will be based, premiered on the birthday of 500, which was first launched on July 4, 1957. After airing on all Italian major TV channels all evening long, the four-minute extended version landed on YouTube and on the Fiat website home pages. Follow this link to watch it.

The short is set in 60s Milan, the city par excellence for style and Italian design, which is evoked by many elements that accompany the opening credits. The clothes of the passers-by around the Cathedral are unmistakable, as are the objects that guide the camera into the protagonist's home: details that take viewers straight back to the Dolce Vita years.

One of these is the record player, playing "Come prima" sung by Mario Lanza, to which Adrien Brody dozes off. After a fade to black, the protagonist leaves the house and walks past his period Fiat 500, running his eyes lovingly over its iconic silhouette. Once through the front door, he feels that something is not quite right as the sixties have turned into the present day. This contrast is the leitmotif of the film, and it also features in the meeting with the female protagonist, Italian actress Anna Manuelli; she is wearing a vintage dress, but drives a Fiat 500 Anniversary. The actor is struck by the lines of the car with its new Riviera Green livery, and viewers can appreciate the historical Fiat logos, the vintage 16" alloy wheels and the chrome plated mirror caps, while the girl takes the key from the 500 Anniversary and invites him to get in.
The two young people enjoy a day in Milan together in the new Fiat 500 Anniversary, in a mix of past and present, with a few small misunderstandings to underline the fact that they come from different eras. However, they share the same love for the Fiat 500, the icon that unites the generations with its style and timeless coolness. The short movie ends as Adrien Brody returns home. "See you again in the future, I hope", he whispers. The final shot returns to the sofa and shows the actor waking up, leaving unsure about the distinction between past and present, and between dream and reality.

His only certainty is the 500 heritage and the 500 Anniversary, the protagonists of the campaign and icons of a timeless love story. The final comparison between the 500 and the new special series, provides the common thread between the Dolce Vita era and the present day, and is a fitting way to celebrate 60 years of being "forever young".

  • An important milestone in the history of the Fiat 500, which has just celebrated its 60th anniversary.
  • The iconic Italian car is also the Germans' favourite: chosen by more than 200,000 customers in Germany, the Fiat 500 enjoys a satisfaction level that even beats that of its German direct competitors.
  • Fiat 500 is the model that has grown the most in the city car segment in Germany this year.
  • Its success is truly global: marketed in over 100 countries worldwide, it heads the sales figures in eight countries and ranks in the top three in six more, with 80% of Fiat 500s sold outside Italy.
  • The 2 millionth car sold is a red 500, which has won the heart of Melanie, a young woman from Munich.
  • Fiat 500S is the car conceived for metropolitan Millennials in search of sportiness and connectivity.
  • Its journey from production to handover is told in a video which can be seen by clicking on this link.
  • Two million is a lucky number for Fiat with brand's first short movie starring Adrien Brody entitled "See you in the future" garneting two million views today on YouTube. Follow this link to watch it.

The iconic Fiat is celebrating two million units sold just days after marking its 60th anniversary. This is just the most recent success of the 'great little car' that has broken many records and reaped many awards in its long history. The impressive total of six million cars sold in sixty years of history is obtained by adding the over four million units sold of its 1957 forerunner: this alone is indicative of the impact of the Fiat 500 on society and explains just why the car has entered collective imagination worldwide, embracing four generations of motorists.

Reaching the resounding round figure of two million cars sold is particularly significant, considering that the result was achieved just 10 years after its launch and reflects the global success of the car. Sold in 100 countries worldwide, the 500 is Europe's number one city car, leading the market in eight countries and ranking in the first three in six more, experiencing constant growth in sales since 2007 and with 80% of sales made outside the home market. 200,000 cars have been consigned to customers since 2007 in Germany alone.

So it is no coincidence that the 2 Millionth car sold was actually delivered to Germany. The Fiat 500 is the model with the fastest year-on-year (2017 vs 2016) market share growth in that country and is among the top 10 in the A segment. Furthermore, the 500 is the FCA brand car with the highest customer satisfaction rating in Germany, and the same applies to all 500 family products, which have higher customer satisfaction levels than the benchmark German competitors in their respective segments.

The purchaser of car number two million is called Melanie, and she is a nursery-school teacher from Munich; an authentic Millennial, constantly looking more to the future than to the past, just like Fiat 500. The chosen car was a Fiat 500S, the new sporty version characterised by bold looks and packed with appealing standard equipment. It is true to itself but also as connected as ever, with UconnectTM 7" HD LIVE touchscreen infotainment system implementing the new state-of-the-art smartphone integration systems, Apple CarPlay and Android AutoTM.

It has distinctive looks, featuring front and rear bumpers in a sporty design, built-in fog lights, bespoke spoilers and side skirts in addition to exclusive "Satin Graphite" finish accents (such as the door and tailgate handles, the mirror caps and rims), tinted rear windows, chrome tailpipe, "black-grained" front air vents and an assertive honeycomb lower grille. The 16-inch rims are specific and are in matte black. It sports a Passione Red livery and fits a 0.9 TwinAir 105 HP engine under the bonnet.

The story of this particular car is told in the words of the Fiat 500 itself in an exciting video which can be watched by clicking on this link. The tale leads us from the body-in-white shop and paint shop of the plant where it was 'born' across the assembly floor along the journey to the local dealership in Germany where the young new owner is waiting for it, thrilled to be able to share her excitement of driving a special 500: her very own.

This attitude typical of the Millennials is well expressed by the 'Forever Young' claim which has accompanied the 60th anniversary celebrations during this extraordinary year marked by no fewer than two special series: the numbered limited edition presented at the Geneva Motor Show and the 500 Anniversario inspired by the years of the Dolce Vita.

One secret of the worldwide success of the 500 is its continual development with new interpretations and special editions like the 500C by Gucci, the 500 by Diesel and the recent 500 Riva, 'The Smallest Yacht in the world'. Diverse creative worlds converge in a car which is loved, exciting and surprising, capable of being always contemporary and current as well as entering collective imagination and transcending the automotive world.

FCA participated to the final event of the AdaptIVe European project on “Vehicle Automated Manoeuvres”

Aachen, in Germany, has recently hosted the AdaptIVe Final Event Congress and Roadshow "Driving Automation" with more than 250 experts from 20 countries all over the world. The AdaptIVe project, co-funded by the European Commission DG-CONNECT and supported by EUCAR, sees the cooperation of car makers, suppliers, and research institutes at pre-competitive level on the topic of "vehicle automated manoeuvres". During the two days of the event, the AdaptIVe project showcased automated driving functions in eight passenger cars of different OEMs and in one truck in the Aachen area. The testing scenarios included low speed parking in a multi-level garage, mid-speed urban driving in a test track, and high-speed highway driving up to 130 km/h. With 28 partners from eight countries across Europe, AdaptIVe advanced the technical performances of vehicle automated systems. The project tested and developed integrated applications in relevant road scenarios, affording different levels of traffic complexity. Among the other car makers, FCA, in collaboration with CRF, the research centre of FCA, contributed to the project with the development and testing of automated vehicle manoeuvres on a prototype demonstrated at the Final Event. The FCA AdaptIVe demonstrator vehicle showcases different functionalities, including adaptation to speed limits, lane keeping, frontal vehicle following with stop&go, overtaking, and capability to adapt to the level of support according to the complexity of the scenario and to driver's requests. The key concept is to structure the automated manoeuvres in multiple behavioural levels, allowing scalability to enable the introduction of advanced driver support systems also on middle and low segment cars.

  • Ducato is born to be a motorhome, with unique features in terms of comfort, engines, transmissions and safety.
  • The Fiat Professional best-seller confirms its leadership in the recreational vehicles sector.
  • Ducato is constantly evolving, drawing on very long experience in the recreational vehicle sector, a vocation now also expressed in the new 4x4 versions.
  • The recreational vehicle is increasingly a lifestyle enabler, a genuine means to freedom.
  • Ducato is the Leader in Freedom, its customer-focus clearly affirmed through a vast range of services, developed with Mopar, to deliver outdoor tourism without a care in the world.

The Fiat Professional symbol model's many body variants, uniform, rectangular cargo area, versatile chassis and car-like driving style make it the best-seller on the main European markets.

More than 106,000 registrations are expected in the motorhome segment during 2017, an increase of more than 10 percent compared to last year. This means that the market has taken off again after the global slump which began in 2009, recording a 60 percent increase in sales. These figures strongly highlight the widespread return to the "plain air life", as people seek to re-establish a link with the environment. As a consequence, the motorhome is viewed more and more as a lifestyle enabler: not just a vehicle for use on holidays, but a means to freedom, for users to go wherever they want, whenever This year, for the tenth time, Ducato has once again been chosen as the "Best Motorhome Base" by the readers of top German magazine Promobil, confirming its leadership in the sector. they want.

Long experience, a leading-edge approach

And now, for those in search of the utmost freedom, for lovers of exploration tourism, or extreme adventures, Ducato has also been unveiled in the new 4x4 version, available soon and previewed to the press in the form of a show-vehicle.

Ducato 4x4 is a four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle which immensely extends the potential for motorhome travel. The four-wheel drive is permanent, with two transfer-boxes and an automatic central viscous coupling. This device ensures the right drive torque distribution between the front and rear wheels, optimising traction on mud, snow and sand. The driveline layout is to one side so that it takes up less room underneath the chassis and does not restrict the ease of outfitting, one of the Ducato motorhome's key plus factors. Ducato 4x4 also offers all the features of robustness and performance needed to tackle off-road trails, also with particular conversions which exploit entirely its payload.

The 4x4 version perfectly expresses the Fiat Professional brand's ability to perceive, anticipate and satisfy the market's evolving needs, nourished by skills acquired over almost a century in the sector. In fact, it was in the 1920s that the concept of the recreational vehicle first appeared, when the car ceased to occupy an elite status niche and vehicle ownership started to spread through society. At the same time, a few daring outdoor tourism pioneers had the idea of using a car not just as a means of transport, but also as a multi-purpose leisure vehicle. Fiat was already in business and ready to satisfy this new, ambitious demand, with a range of cars and light commercial vehicles to provide the basis for the first, futuristic conversions. The real revolution in the mass adoption of vehicles designed for camping came in the late-1960s: this type of tourism became fashionable with young people, and the Fiat brand was quick to respond to the growing demand with the presentation, in 1967, of the 238, the vehicle which celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year. Its loading capacity was outstanding by the standards of the time and, above all, it had an "all-forward" architecture, with front engine and front-wheel drive, ideal for motorhome conversions since it left plenty of space behind the cabin for the living area.

This was still just the dawn of the motorhome age, but the approach and philosophy were already very clear. Working in that tradition, with its many, ever more sophisticated developments, nowadays the Fiat Professional brand expresses its background to the full by identifying the new opportunities of an increasingly fast-evolving market. A customer-orientation epitomised by the 2006 generation of the Ducato, the first model to be developed right from the design phase with a range specifically for motorhome conversion. Thenceforward every Ducato-based motorhome enjoyed the engineering benefits of being born to be a motorhome: not an adaptation, but "naturally a motorhome", with the strength of in-depth experience. What's more, the Fiat Professional approach is truly global and reaches far beyond the product itself. It is well aware of motorhome owners' needs, and considers and supports them with a range of services constantly extended year-on-year to respond better and better to every customer's requirements.

So the Ducato 4x4 comes from a long history to go anywhere, in total safety.

Fiat Ducato: the only base created to be a motorhome

Thirty-six years ago, the Ducato revolutionised the large-volume van market with its front wheel drive with transverse engine, powerful engines and efficient loading area.

A revolution that seems to have no end. The current, and sixth, generation boasts the highest gross vehicle weight in the segment, the highest front axle load (up to 2100 kg) and the highest rear axle load for vehicles with single-wheel rear axles (up to 2500 kg), as well as the highest maximum payload. The exceptionally balanced chassis and specific suspensions for motorhomes ensure safety and dynamic behaviour in all road conditions. A large number of active and passive safety devices provide peace of mind at the wheel, even with the family on board.

Comfort is assured for both drivers and passengers: outstanding visibility, swivel "Captain Chair" seats, adjustable steering wheel and hydraulic power steering. The excellent ergonomic layout ensures all controls are in easy reach and gives user-friendly access to all smartphone or tablet.

As a whole, the new exterior style stems from a cutting-edge "car design" which, teamed with the concept of a genuine light commercial vehicle, conveys a strong sense of dynamism, safety, quality and sturdiness. Another outstanding feature is the possibility of customising the styling of the vehicle with a number of solutions: two different front grille colours, skid-plate highlighting the lower edge of the bumper, headlights with integrated DRL (also with LED) and a wide choice of light alloy rims.

History of a success

Since its birth back in 1981, Ducato has enabled holidaymakers to enjoy direct contact with nature and the luxury of deciding when and where to stop.

Thirty-six years ago, with the X212, the body was already available in two roof heights and Van, Combi, Bus and Truck variants. The two wheelbases (2,923 and 3,653 millimetres) meant that the van could total a load volume of 9.8 cubic metres with two payload classes (1000 and 1300 kilograms) and a total gross vehicle weight of up to 2800 kilograms.

In 1984, inclined shock absorbers were used to create a completely flat cargo area, and in 1985 the maximum payload was upped to 1800 kg with the Maxi version, while the Talento, a special version of the Ducato with shorter 2,317 millimetre wheelbase, was launched in 1988. 1989 saw the presentation of the second generation of the Ducato - the X280 - also available, even then, with four-wheel drive.

With the second series, introduced ten years after its market launch, Ducato achieved one of its first milestones: vehicle number 500,000 rolled off the Sevel assembly line on October 1st, 1991. Apart from its leading-edge style, the Ducato also introduced new specific features of vital importance for motorhomes, such as the dashboard gear lever for easier access to the living area from the cabin. The power of the 2.5 litre turbodiesel engine was increased to 70 kW (95 HP). A third wheelbase was added to the offer (3,200 millimetres).

With the third generation - the X230 introduced in 1994 - the Cx was improved to 0.35, and the design became even more automotive.

Further improvements aimed at comfort characterised the Noughties. For example, in 2002, with the fourth generation - the X244 - seat height adjustment and the three-spoke steering-wheel were introduced for the first time. The adoption, for the first time in the world on a light commercial vehicle, of a common-rail direct-injection Diesel engine, still the best solution even today for low fuel consumption and emissions, was a real technological revolution.

The Ducato X250, launched in 2006, was a game-changer in the motorhome segment. Developed over the previous three years in partnership with all Europe's top motorhome producers, it incorporated more than 50 specific features to optimise its convenience and use. The engines were also new: the two litre turbodiesel (62 kW/84 HP) was joined by a 2.3 litre four cylinder unit (81 kW/130 HP) and a completely new 3.0 litre (98 kW /157HP) engine.

The current generation of Ducato, the sixth, called the X290, boasts the highest total ground weight in the segment (up to 4400 kilograms on motorhome version or 4250 kilograms on the van version), in addition to the highest loads on the front axle (up to 2100 kg) and rear axle for vehicles with single-wheel rear axles (up to 2500 kilograms) and the highest payload. It is also available with, air suspensions on the rear axle.

The Ducato is now offered in 17,469 variants, created using different body, engine, transmission, mechanics and colour combinations.

It has always been built at Sevel (Società Europea Veicoli Leggeri - European Company for Light Commercial Vehicles) in Val di Sangro, central Italy, Europe's largest light commercial vehicle production plant, which in 2015 reached the impressive production milestone of five million vehicles.

Engines and transmissions

The technology which characterises the Ducato engines is the best example of the specific work carried out to improve efficiency with a focus on eco-friendliness. The engines, all Euro 6B, are provided with Low Pressure EGR technology (LPERG), which intercepts the exhaust gases after the DPF and returns them to the intake manifold via a low pressure circuit. This system has two advantages: it abates NOx emissions by means of a lower combustion temperature and saves fuel by ensuring better efficiency.

Furthermore, all the engines in the Ducato line-up are at the top of their class in terms of fuel efficiency and deliver high torque even at low rpm, an essential feature for motorhome drivers. The Multijet2 engine range comprises four power levels, from 115 to 180 HP: an offering capable of satisfying the most diverse needs of motorhome manufacturers and users.

In detail, the 2-litre 115 Multijet2 is the less expensive, most eco-friendly in the range, ideal above all for camper vans. It has 115 HP and a torque power of 290 rpm and uses 6 percent less fuel than the previous Euro5+; it is also teamed with a new 6-speed transmission, and also available in right-hand-drive.

The 2.3 litre 130 Multijet2 engine is the best-seller, ideal for medium-sized motorhomes: it is easy to drive in all conditions with a torque of 320 Nm available as early as at 1800 rpm. It is perfect for mixed use: agile in traffic, brilliant on long hauls. The characteristics of the 2.3 litre 150 Multijet2 engine also make it the ideal choice for larger vehicles, based on chassis-cab or chassis-cowl versions. In fact, it has a maximum torque of 380 Nm, delivered at 1500 rpm. Finally, there is the powerful 2.3 litre 180 Multijet2, the top of the range, ideal for the largest, heaviest motorhomes and, of course, for owners seeking the highest level of performance. It offers the same levels of torque and power as the previous 3.0 - namely, 180 HP and 400 Nm -, but consumes approximately 20% less. This exceptional result is also achieved by means of a series of improvements to the turbocharger's fluidodynamics, the crankshaft in special high-strength steel, the reinforced pistons and the even higher-pressure injection pump.

Another innovation covers the whole range: a new, more powerful alternator, available on request, which cuts the battery charging time by 10%.

The "Comfort Matic" robotized transmission is available on all the 2300 cc engines. This is an electrohydraulically operated robotized sequential transmission, which combines the reliability and light weight of the 6-speed manual transmission from which it is derived with the convenient option of fully automatic mode. Electronic gear shifting also gives access to a wide range of actuation strategies, from faster engine warm-up to cut consumption to the "up" function, activated with a push-button and designed to give peak performance on the toughest roads, very popular with motorhome drivers.

Safety and Infotainment

Ducato proves to be at the cutting edge also in terms of high-tech contents with its many safety and driving assist devices, in addition to the new Infotainment system. For instance, all versions are supplied, with electronic stability control (ESC) enhanced with rollover mitigation to maximise comfort, Hill Holder for easier hill starts, anti-slip regulation (ASR) and electronic emergency brake assist (EBA). Drive-assist systems include Traction+ and the innovative Hill Descent Control system (which helps when descending the steepest slopes at low speed), the lane departure warning system, traffic sign recognition (TSR) and automatic full beam headlight control.

Ducato also offers a wide range of radios, all with Bluetooth technology and MP3 player. In addition, a 5" touchscreen UconnectTM system is available, as well as reverse camera and built-in satellite navigation system. Last but not least, the whole line-up is available with Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) decoder, as well as conventional analogue radio.

Leader in freedom

Leader in freedom is a concept with a clearly defined meaning. 'Freedom' is what Fiat Professional's promises to Customers by guaranteeing that it will be on hand with a solution to any problem they may have during their holiday. "Leader", because today the Brand's offer, not only of products but also of specific services for the motorhome world, is unique and unrivalled on the market. A team of professionals has been taking care of motorhome customers and their needs since 2003. Over time, this team has expanded, improved and updated its skills, growing closer and closer to customers and their requirements.

The ability to listen to customers - which starts from Customer Care and continues in the Fiat Professional workshops - means being able to respond efficiently to current needs and plan ahead for those of the future. Therefore the service concept does not stop with product assistance but includes caring for customers on holiday by being on hand at all times Twenty multilingual Fiat Professional Brand Ambassadors are ready to take calls on the motorhome toll-free number in 44 European countries, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And, above all, they deal with any type of problem as quickly as possible, also involving the Fiat Professional technical departments if necessary.

Another customer care services is the "Conciergerie": by calling the same Camper Assistance toll-free number, customers can speak with an operator who helps them explore the additional service package, free for two years from the first registration date, which provides tourist information and help in locating and booking parking areas, camp-sites, transport, restaurants and much, much more. Fiat Professional's promise of peace of mind to its customers also includes the extended warranty. From this year, in view of the typically seasonal use of recreational vehicles, Fiat Professional is lengthening the period during which the warranty can be extended to 12 months.

TRAVELLING WITH CONFIDENCE, with Mopar® Vehicle Protection "Maximum Care" extended warranty plan. Assured confidence, by extending your Ducato Based Motorhome, beyond the factory warranty, for up to a maximum of 5 years. The protection plan built to cover all mechanical and electrical components, as well as including a complementary roadside assistance coverage.

One last, but no less important, topic is connection, meaning the way in which all the new communication technologies are used as a service aid: from the fiatcamper.com website (available in 9 languages and visited more than 50 thousand times a month), where motorhome owners can acquire and check full information about their vehicle's service status, to the app, a real utility, contents and service platform that is always to hand, downloaded onto computers and smartphones more than 90 thousand times, and from the social media, which provide the community of motorhome owners with information and advice in real time, to the monthly newsletter, dispatched to outdoor enthusiasts throughout the EMEA area.

Fiat Professional runs a very intensive communications campaign. The brand is a long-established presence at the top motorhome shows in EMEA. In 2016 it attended ten Exhibitions including - for the first time - CMT in Stuttgart.

Obviously, its motorhome-specific advertising is also supported by all the other Fiat Professional communication programmes. The new communication platform starring Chuck Norris, a worldwide legend with superhero status for action film enthusiasts, went on air a few days ago. Chuck Norris's image enables the brand to project itself abroad with a single voice, and even further reinforce its image.

In 2016 Fiat Professional became official sponsor of the FIM Motocross World Championship MXGP, giving it visibility with thousands of fans and millions of television viewers, a channel used to communicate the Brand's values and products (Fullback first and foremost, but also its recreational vehicles). The outstanding Brand spokesman is Tony Cairoli, one of the greatest motocross riders ever, the winner of 8 World Championships (6 of them consecutive).

Ducato named “Fleet Van of the Year 2017” in Great Britain

  • Another award for the Fiat Professional best-seller as further confirmation of its outstanding qualities.
  • Ducato is the spearhead of a very complete range geared to the needs of business customers.
  • A global success, rapidly rising on the market in the UK.
  • The brand values are expressed by Chuck Norris: the new communications platform starring the famous actor as the perfect testimonial debutted recently.

Further confirmation of the popularity and success of Ducato was received last week from the "Motor Transport Awards 2017", during which the Fiat Professional best-seller was named Fleet Van of the Year.  The accolade was announced during a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London rewarding the entrance of Fiat Professional and of the Ducato van on the fleet market with an expanding range, a growing dealership network and an increasing focus on business customers. The latter is the key priority of Fiat Professional and manifested in the very complete line-up of the brand and in the wide range of solutions and services designed to satisfy the most diverse customer needs, as only a team of professionals at the service of other professionals can.

The expert panel of Motor Transport also noted the excellent chassis of Ducato and strongly appreciated its outstanding capacity, flexibility and durability. The vehicle is the standard bearer of the complete range of Fiat Professional, the first brand "born to be professional" with a line-up entirely dedicated to light transport, one hundred years of history and a one-of-a-kind baggage of experience in the world of commercial vehicles. The Fiat Professional brand is already a full liner, capable of taking on all the challenges of an increasingly competitive market.

The prestigious "Fleet Van of the Year" award is further confirmation of the qualities of Ducato: with its many body variants, its the square and regular shape of its loading compartment, its versatile chassis and its car-like driving style, it is the best-seller on the major European markets. Thirty-six years ago, Ducato revolutionised the large-volume van market with its front wheel drive, powerful engines and spacious loading compartment. During its history, the Ducato has progressively developed into the benchmark for the category. Over 10,000 variants have been made and the model is sold in more than eighty countries worldwide. In particular, during the first six months of the year the sales of Fiat Professional have grown by nearly 18 percent on a practically stable market. More in detail, the market share of Ducato has increased by one percent with respect to the same semester of last year (8%).

The Motor Transport Awards are named by a panel of 50 sector experts chaired by the members of the Motor Transport team to guarantee in-depth evaluation of all candidates and impartiality. Commenting the award, the panel described Fiat Professional as "one of the most flexible manufacturers". "Service coupons are scheduled every 50,000 kilometres; furthermore, Ducato now has a new clutch, improved brakes, stronger door hinges and reinforced body panels," they added. "These changes mean being able to extend the vehicle life and attract new customers."

Outstanding reliability, in addition to expertise, constant customer focus, dynamism and determination: these are the features of Fiat Professional in short. The same values are embodied with the right touch of irony by Chuck Norris, who debuted as brand testimonial last month on a new communications platform. The fame of the actor, who is associated with very popular Internet meme depicting him as an indestructible character, means that the brand can present itself to the world with a single voice and consolidate its image even further.

Fiat 500: ten days of celebrations for a journey sixty years in the making

The 500, an icon that transcends the automotive world. The object of the desire and affection of many enthusiasts. Italian pride that has become universal and that has just ended ten days of celebrations for its sixtieth birthday.

The journey of the Fiat 500 has been 60 years in the making. The journey of the indefatigable 'great little car' has led from Dante Giacosa's desk to the gates of the Mirafiori factory, from the long avenues of Torino to the MoMA in New York, after criss-crossing all of Europe. Four million units of the original and two million of the current model have been sold: an undisputed global success. Sold in more than 100 countries worldwide, it is market leader in eight, ranks in the top three in six more; and 80% are sold outside Italy.

July has been a month of celebrations, with the handover of the two-millionth Fiat 500 (follow this link for its story) and two special editions dedicated to its special birthday. First, the 500-60esimo, introduced in Geneva, and then the 500 Anniversario, both of which cleverly blend 60s flair with modern technology to win over the Millennials.

The secret of the longevity of the 500 has always been in its ability to step beyond its own dimension and become something else, while remaining true to itself. More than just a simple car, it is an object with a genuine cult following which has intrigued, excited and influenced the most diverse contexts across the globe. On July 4, the 500 joined the permanent collection of the MoMA and also starred in Fiat's first short movie. It is a car that is not only a car: it is art and show. 'See you in the future', the tribute video starring Adrien Brody, totalled 11 million views on the web. The audience was captured by the 500 heritage and the 500 Anniversary, featuring in the campaign next to the Oscar-winning actor, which became the icons of a timeless love story. Follow this link to watch it.

The iconic Fiat has also inspired fashion. The luxury sportswear brand Hydrogen is celebrating the sixty years of the 500 with a limited edition sweatshirt, of which 1957 were made to pay homage to the year of birth of the car. The sweatshirt "500byHydrogen" is a 'forever young' garment perfect for many occasions and defines the wearer's personality at a glance.

Happy birthday, Fiat 500, and have a safe trip. Congratulations on your first 60 years and best wishes as you keep on motoring on the roads of the world. The story will continue, thanks to the commitment of collectors and club members, the pride of Fiat workers and the new stamp which has just been dedicated to it - a symbolic gift, a minuscule work of art and a homage reserved only to the most beloved and recognisable icons which sums up the personality of the car. Popular and democratic, but also sophisticated and collectable, metaphor of messages to be delivered and distances to be covered.

Happy birthday, 500, and many happy returns for the road you have travelled and that still ahead.

FCA at the 2017 Ennstal Classic

  • The twentieth edition of the Ennstal Classic will be staged in Gröbming, Austria, from July 18 to 22.
  • The particularity of the event held on the most beautiful Alpine roads of Styria is that all electronic instruments are banned from the competition.
  • A valuable car from the FCA Heritage collection, Fiat 1100 S, will be taking part, together with two models picked from the Abarth line-up as proof of the tight bond linking the gems of the past with current production.

FCA will be taking part in the 2017 edition of the Ennstal Classic which will be staged in the Styria region from today to July 22. It is the twenty-fifth edition of a meeting which started in 1993 with 35 cars and which has become the key event for classic car enthusiasts over time. The presence of international guests and famous drivers year after year has added prestige to the event which is sure to fascinate with the Alpine charm of the roads on which it is held. The particularity of the event held on the most beautiful Alpine roads of Styria is that all electronic instruments are banned from the competition: only mechanical tripmasters and stopwatches are allowed, consistently with the age of the cars.

Fiat 1100 S

FCA Heritage, the new department created to protect and promote the history of the Italian FCA brands, will be attending with a precious car picked from the collection: a Fiat 1100 S.
It is the car which took part in the first "Ennstal Classic" and is returning after 25 years to pay homage to the jubilee edition of the event. Launched on the market in 1947, the 1100 S sports berlinetta was the direct evolution of the pre-war 508 C MM. On the outside, its body was adapted to create an aerodynamic two-seater with a modified vertical blade grille and two additional air scoops under the headlights. The main innovation, however, was in the performance it was capable of achieving: 51 HP at 5200 rpm with a top speed of 150 km/h. Fast and modern, the new car was very successful on the race track and turned out perfect for the Mille Miglia: four 1100 S ended the race in 1947 in fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth place in the general ranking. The following year, the car took the third place in the general ranking and in 1949 it won the race in its category. The 1100 S remained in production until 1950 and 401 units were made in total.

The involvement confirms the interest of the Group this sector which pervades various areas of the contemporary society and is enjoying continuous growth, adding value to the modern automotive industry. The www.fcaheritage.com website is now online. It is the showcase of the FCA Heritage department and the meeting point for everyone interested in the history, the events and the activities dedicated to the classic models of the Italian FCA brands. On the website, vintage Fiat, Abarth, Lancia and Alfa Romeo car enthusiasts and owners can discover new services, sign up for a special newsletter and submit online requests for a certificate of origin.

Abarth

Abarth is partner of the event and will be showcasing two cars capable of thrilling the audience of fans and collectors who flock to Austria from the world over. A new Abarth 124 spider and a 695 XSR Cabrio will be displayed at the stand in the Motorpark, the latter being a convertible which is simply perfect for open-air motoring in summer.

Abarth 124 spider

The new Abarth 124 spider was created to be a distinctive and cool roadster and guarantees all the thrills and fun that only a real spider can offer. Developed by the Abarth Racing team, it perfectly embodies the leading values of the brand: performance, craftsmanship and technical excellence. The Abarth 124 spider fits a mechanical self-locking differential as standard equipment. The suspension features a high double wishbone layout on the front and a five-arm multi-link arrangement on the rear. Sophisticated mechanics and special materials have been used to contain the weight to just 1060 kilograms, resulting in a weight-to-power ratio of 6.2 kg/HP, the best in its category. Furthermore, the optimal 50/50 kerb weight distribution means excellent feedback and agility. Under the bonnet is a powerful, ultra-reliable 1.4 litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with MultiAir technology. It delivers 170 HP (that is about 124 HP per litre) and 250 Nm of torque: it has a top speed of 232 km/h and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It is available with a six-speed manual or automatic Sports Sequential Esseesse gearbox.

Abarth 695 XSR Yamaha Limited Edition Cabrio

By the side of the new spider, Abarth will be showcasing the mechanical creation spawned from the prestigious partnership with Yamaha: the new Abarth 695 XSR Yamaha Limited Edition. Available exclusively with a Pista Grey livery, only 695 sedans and 695 convertibles of the model will be made, like the one on display in Austria. The limited edition makes extensive use of carbon fibre both inside and out, such as for the tailpipes and the steering spokes, for instance. The car can be customised with a carbon fibre dashboard fascia, Sabelt leather and Alcantara seats with carbon fibre backrest shell and with the new Abarth kit and accessory range which includes pedal covers, gear stick knob and kick plate, also made of carbon fibre. Under the bonnet, the car fits a 1.4 T-Jet engine with GARRETT GT 1446 turbine developing a peak power of 165 HP at 5500 rpm and a torque of 230 Nm. With this engine, the Abarth 695 XSR Yamaha with manual transmission accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3" and reaches a top speed of 218 km/h. Equipment of this special series includes Koni rear suspensions paired with Eibach springs, 17-inch Supersport alloy rims with Matt Black finish, "Satin Chrome" accents on handles and badge supports, side stripes and red bumper details, red brake callipers and braking system with perforated discs.

Third win in a row for Tony Cairoli

  • Victory number three comes in the Czech Republic after that in the "Fiat Professional Fullback MXGP di Lombardia" and that on the Agueda circuit in Portugal.
  • The eight-times world champion is unstoppable, just like Fullback, the product hero of the official fleet of the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship.
  • Together with Tony Cairoli's exciting win, spectators could admire the Fullback pick-up and the new Talento at the stand set up by Fiat Professional, the Official Sponsor of the competition.
  • The next appointment with the World Championship will be in Lommel, Belgium, for "Fiat Professional MXGP of Belgium".

Fiat Professional celebrates Tony Cairoli, genuine Italian sports icon and eight times World Champion, who won on the exciting Loket circuit in the Czech Republic, for the thirteenth appointment of the 2017 MXGP FIM Motocross World Championship. The Sicilian rider is now firmly leading the scoreboard with 523 points and is consolidating his world championship standing making the challenge for the ultimate title even more thrilling. The next appointment will be on August 6 in Lommel, Belgium, for "Fiat Professional MXGP of Belgium".

Enthusiasm, determination and constant dedication allow the Sicilian champion to prevail over the competition and are the values he shares with Fiat Professional: not by chance, the brand picked him as ambassador and is by his side during this challenge which is tough and selective but also very rewarding. Furthermore, for the second year running, Fiat Professional is also Official Sponsor of the exciting MXGP FIM Motocross World Championship.

Today, the brand is an authentic "full liner" with a line-up capable of providing the right answers to all transport mission needs: a full array of body types, loading capacities and volumes and a complete choice of wheelbases, widths and height variants, in addition to high-efficiency engines and various fuels options (petrol, diesel, LPG and methane). What is more, the brand places assertive focus on "specialities", such as passenger transport and the world of converted vehicles. It is the natural evolution of over one hundred years of history and a one-of-a-kind baggage of experience in the world of commercial vehicles.

The public at the Loket circuit had the opportunity to admire a taster of the range at the Fiat Professional stand: a Talento was on display next to the unstoppable Fullback pick-up truck, the "product hero" of the official fleet of the MXGP FIM Motocross World Championship. With its generous load capacities, the Talento van is the ideal work mate for professionals in city streets and on major roads alike. It is characterised by its outstanding versatility and ability to adapt to different customer needs.

Fiat 1100 S is “Best of Show" at Ennstal Classic 2017

The Fiat 1100 S was crowned "Best of Show" at Ennstal Classic 2017, which took place in Gröbming (Austria) from July 18 to 22. The car was named the most representative of the event that this year brought together over 200 registered crews from 17 countries and more than 100 thousand spectators.

Picked from the FCA Heritage collection, the winning Fiat 1100 S is the car which took part in the first "Ennstal Classic" and is returning after 25 years to pay homage to the jubilee edition of the event. The coveted title was awarded by the organising committee, chaired by event owner Helmut Zwickl, who gave the trophy to Rudi Roubinek, the famous Austrian TV actor and writer who had driven the car during the three days of the competition.

The following year, the car took the third place in the general ranking and in 1949 it won the race in its category. The 1100 S remained in production until 1950 and 401 units were made in total.

The particularity of the Ennstal Classic event held on the most beautiful Alpine roads of Styria is that all electronic instruments are banned from the competition: only mechanical tripmasters and stopwatches are allowed, consistently with the age of the cars. One of the rarities was the extraordinary Fiat 1100 S, picked to set off the entire collection of FCA Heritage, the new department created to protect and promote the history of the Italian FCA brands. More information is available at www.fcaheritage.com the website dedicated to the heritage of the group and meeting point for everyone interested in the history, the events and the activities dedicated to the classic models of the Italian FCA brands. 31/07/2017

These have been very hard-working weeks for the engineers and marketing and economics students - from the world's top universities - who have just taken part in the second Italian edition of the EIA, European Innovation Academy. Held in Turin from 10 to 28 July, the EIA is a major technology-based entrepreneurship education event held at Politecnico di Torino's Lingotto campus.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was also directly involved as a partner in the project: this was only fitting, since FCA is firmly convinced that the development of an innovative ecosystem (which the European Innovation Academy is able to encourage) is a wonderful opportunity for the evolution of competences and professionalisms the automotive industry needs. Central to the development of this ecosystem is the evolution of the Mobility and Industry 4.0 concept, which within FCA is already in part a consolidated technological reality, capable of providing stimulus for entrepreneurship and the development of new ideas and solutions.

For twenty days, the Lingotto was transformed into a creative laboratory, housing 650 young people (from more than 70 countries) and people who already work for the company and were eager to use the Academy's potential to quicken the pace of innovation.

This enabled the EIA innovators to meet mentors and investors from Silicon Valley, Italy and the Turin region, all of whom made their experience available as a tool for promoting technology-based entrepreneurship.

The 2017 edition of the EIA concluded with the presentation of ten projects by the finalist teams chosen from the almost 100 business ideas suggested by the young innovators. The ATPC (Active Tyre Pressure Control) group was particularly outstanding amongst this top ten, with its solution for controlling tyre pressure dynamically, with the aim of reducing fuel consumption and increasing safety. Raffaele Notaro, who works in Product Development, represented Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in the development of this idea.

The investors were also favourably impressed by the two ideas put forward by FCA and prototyped by groups including some of the company's talented young employees. These wereYouCarIdea, a platform for gathering feedback and ideas from customers for the development of cars and accessories, involving our colleagues Francesco Baldi (ICT) and Carolina Malagon (Mopar), and Mercurius, a particularly innovative V2X (Vehicles to Everything) solution, with Marco Evangelista and Andrea Steccanella, both from Product Development.

FCA at the Dyck Castle "Classic Days”

Alfa Romeo and FCA Heritage are taking part in one of the most important events dedicated to classic cars in Europe.  Representing the bond between past and present are the titled 1993 Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti DTM from the Alfa Romeo "Macchina del tempo" Museum in Arese and Giulia and Stelvio, the models which embody the new paradigm of the brand.

"Classic Days", the yearly meeting dedicated to the cars of yesteryear, will be staged from August 4 to 6 at the medieval castle of Schloss Dyck, not far from Düsseldorf, Germany. FCA Heritage, the department of the Group dedicated to protecting and promoting the history of the Italian FCA brands, and Alfa Romeo will be taking part in the event to reassert the eternal link between the models of the past and those of the present.

The public will be able to admire cars of different ages, which all perfectly embody the values of the brand: performance, care for details and technical excellence. A Giulia Quadrifoglio and an Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the first SUV of the brand, will be parading next to the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti DTM (1993). Both cars represent the new paradigm of the brand and offer distinctly Italian design with state-of-the-art engines, perfect weight distribution, one-of-a-kind technical solutions, excellent weight-to-power ratio and unique handling. What is more, both Giulia and Stelvio can proudly boast five prestigious Euro NCAP stars.

Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti DTM (1993)

The car belongs to the collection of the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, dubbed the "Macchina del tempo". It competed in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) which was by far the most prestigious touring car racing championship in the early nineties. At first, all competitors were exclusively German until 1993, when Alfa Romeo decided to take part officially with the 155 V6 Ti driven by Alessandro Nannini and Nicola Larini and other cars entered by semi-official teams.
The debut was resounding: the 155 V6 Ti won both rounds in the first race in Zolder (Belgium). By the end of the season, Larini had won no fewer than 10 out of 20 races, which added to Nannini's two wins and the many podiums and good standings of the two Italians, secured the Constructors title for Alfa Romeo and the Drivers title for Larini. It was nothing short of a shock for the Germans, who reluctantly accepted that the top level 1993 DTM championship had gone to an Italian brand in the year of its debut.

The car is part of the valuable FCA Heritage collection which counts a line-up of unique vehicles capable of catching the interest of experts and fans. The www.fcaheritage.com website is dedicated to the history of all Italian brands of the FCA Group. This is a new portal that serves as the online showroom of FCA Heritage and aims to be a point of reference for all those interested in the stories, events and initiatives involving the classic cars of the Italian brands of the Group. On the website, enthusiasts can sign up for the FCA Heritage newsletter to stay abreast of the activities and the available services.

Financial results for the semester ended 30th June 2017. Another six-month record performance for FCA Bank

  • Pre-tax profit for the first half of 2017 amounted to €259.6 million while net profit totalled €189.7 million, up 30% on the first half of 2016.
  • End-of-period financing portfolio reached €22.67 billion, compared to €18.97 billion in June 2016.
  • The increase in new car registrations and FCA Bank's growing support to FCA resulted in total new financing of €6.5 billion, up 8% on the first half of 2016.
  • The cost of risk continued to decline also in 2017, settling at 0.25% of the average financing portfolio, compared to 0.32% for the corresponding period of 2016.

"FCA Bank continued to grow and expanded its international footprint in the new mobility world - said Giacomo Carelli, CEO and General Manager - through the internationalisation of Leasys, the Group's Mobility and Long-Term Rental company, which opened affiliates and branches in Germany, United Kingdom, France and Spain and is about to establish a presence, in the second half of the year, in Belgium and the Netherlands. The diversification of the activities has been acknowledged also by the rating agencies, which have confirmed or, in the case of Fitch, upgraded the Bank's ratings".

170802_FCA_eng.png

Business volumes

In the first half of 2017, total new volumes financed by FCA bank, including long-term rentals, amounted to €6.5 billion. FCA Bank supported sales of new FCA vehicles, with a penetration rate for new car registrations of 42.8%.
In addition, the end-of-period portfolio rose to €22.7 billion, up 19.5% on the first half of 2016.

Net banking income and rental margin

Net banking income and rental margin for the six months ended 30th June 2017 increased by 17.0% on the comparable year-earlier amount, reaching €415.5 million, driven by the growth of volumes financed and by a stable spread income on the portfolio of around 4%.

Operating costs

The constant attention to efficiency reflects on the Bank's ability to keep operating costs in check, as they decreased by 0,13 p.p., to 1.24% of the average portfolio. The slight increase in absolute terms of net operating costs, to €131.9 million, in the period under review was due mainly to the substantial increase of the portfolio and Leasys's internationalisation process.

Cost of risk

FCA Bank's cost of risk declined further, in line with the trend already shown in 2016. In absolute terms, the cost of risk amounted to €26.9 million, or 0.25% of the average portfolio.

II. Funding

As at 30th June 2017, the Group's financial liabilities amounted to approximately €20 billion. In the six months under review, the Group pursued further its funding diversification strategy, by accessing the bond and securitisation markets.
Specifically, in the early months of 2017 FCA Bank issued, and placed publicly and privately, over €1.5 billion in senior unsecured notes under the MTN programme. On the other hand, after two years, FCA Bank returned to the public securitisation market with two placements, A-BEST 11 and A-BEST 12, one right after the other, taking advantage of a window of opportunities between May and June and raising over €1 billion at an extremely competitive price.

III. Capitalisation

FCA Bank maintains a good capitalisation level. As at 30th June 2017, Equity totalled approximately €2.4 billion, with a Core Tier 1 Ratio of 11.3%. During the first half of the year, FCA Bank obtained a TIER 2 10NC5 subordinated loan of euro 126 million, in order to strengthen own funds and lead Total Capital Ratio to 12.01%.

IV. Conto Deposito

The new online savings product developed by FCA Bank, Conto Deposito, continued its positive trend, with total deposit inflows of over €360 million.

V. Rating

In the first half of 2017, the rating agencies confirmed or upgraded FCA Bank's rating, based on the continuing good results achieved by the Group:

  • Moody's confirmed the long-term rating of Baa1 with stable outlook and A3 for long-term deposits on 19th June 2017;
  • Fitch upgraded its long-term rating to BBB+ with stable outlook on 31st May 2017;
  • Standard&Poor's confirmed its BBB- with stable outlook since its last action of 19th May 2016.

VI.  The internationalisation of Leasys SpA

Leasys, FCA Bank's Mobility and Long-term Rental company established in Italy in 2001, started a European expansion plan that will lead it to provide its services in the countries where the Group is already operational.
In the first half of 2017, the company opened a branch in each of Spain and Germany while FCA Bank took over the Group's investments in the  long-term rental companies in France and the United Kingdom.
The international expansion is the natural consequence of Leasys's success in the domestic market. In fact, the company has been ranking first for several years in the industry in terms of car registrations and hit record sales in 2016.
This internationalisation process is part of a broader growth and diversification strategy of the FCA Bank Group, which aims to gain market share by offering more aggressively to the market of fleets and private rentals FCA's upgraded range of products, thanks to Leasys's direct presence in the geographies concerned.

FCA stars at the sixth edition of “Passione Engadina”

  • Alfa Romeo and Abarth are sponsors and FCA Heritage grants the public a view of four wonderful cars from its collection.
  • This year's is a special edition because it includes two events featuring historic Italian cars: the usual gathering is combined with a tribute to mark the Ferrari brand's 70th birthday.
  • The cars selected for the event by Heritage tell the story of Ferrari's partnerships with the various Group brands over the decades.
  • The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Giulia Quadrifoglio, Giulia Veloce and 4C Spider and the Abarth 124 spider, 595 Competizione and 595 Turismo models will be available for test drives.

From 18 to 20 August, St. Moritz will host the sixth edition of "Passione Engadina", an essential appointment for vintage car enthusiasts, with the opportunity for a close look at the beauty and splendour of fine Italian models, with their unique tradition, taste and style. In fact, the gathering is only open to cars produced in Italy up until 1980. What's more, this year "Passione Engadina" actually comprises two events: from 25 to 27 August it will stage a special tribute to the Ferrari models built at Maranello since 1 January 1981. A wonderful gift for the Prancing Horse brand, as it turns 70.

The 2017 edition focuses strongly on Alfa Romeo and Abarth, the event's sponsors, and FCA Heritage, the Group department dedicated to promoting the historic legacy of FCA's Italian brands, will be there, confirming its interest in this constantly growing sector, popular with all segments of contemporary society and a source of added value for the modern automotive industry. More information is available at www.fchaheritage.com.
For the occasion, FCA Heritage will be exhibiting four magnificent cars from its collection, one for each of the brands represented, telling the story of Ferrari's partnerships with the various Group brands over the decades. They are the Alfa Romeo GP 16C Bimotore (1935), the Fiat Dino Spider (1969), the Lancia LC2 (1983) and the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari (2009)

In addition, a display area in the centre of St. Moritz will feature the first SUV in the history of the Alfa Romeo brand: Stelvio. This model guarantees unadulterated performance and boundless driving pleasure, thanks to best-in-class mechanical engineering and engine design, which recently earned it the coveted Euro NCAP five star rating. Next to it, a Giulia Quadrifoglio, a concentrate of the new Alfa Romeo paradigm and the finest expression of "La Meccanica delle Emozioni". It is equipped with the powerful, all-aluminium 510 HP 2.9 BiTurbo petrol engine that guarantees extraordinary performance: top speed of 307 km/h, 0 -100 km/h acceleration in just 3.9 seconds and peak torque of 600 Nm at 2,500 rpm. Members of the public will even be able to test drive these models, as well as the Giulia Veloce and the 4C Spider.

The event is also the ideal opportunity for getting to know the latest innovations from Abarth at first hand. The Scorpion brand will be exhibiting a 124 Spider and, for the first time in Switzerland, the exclusive Abarth 695 Rivale. This special series, conceived in association with Riva, brings together two Italian brands with a shared excellence in technology, innovation, attention to every detail and outstanding performances. Available in a limited edition in sedan and convertible version, the Abarth 695 Rivale can be recognised by its exclusive livery: two-tone paintwork in Riva Evening Blue and Shark Grey, with the delightful touch of two aquamarine stripes running around the waistrail, similar to the "beauty line" that appears on yachts. The satin chrome finish on the door handles, the "695 Rivale" signature on the tailgate and rear wings, and the satin chrome moulding on the tailgate that recalls the sophisticated forms of a yacht, all make this model even more unmistakable, thanks to the stylistic affinity with the side view of the new Riva yachts.
As an added attraction, visitors will be able to drive the 124 spider and the 165 HP 595C Turismo with the top down, as well as the 180 HP 595 Competizione.

The following are the descriptions of the cars selected by FCA Heritage.

Alfa Romeo GP 16C Bimotore (1935)

Designed by Luigi Bazzi for Scuderia Ferrari, the car was called the "Bimotore" because it is fitted with two engines: as well as the usual straight 8 in front of the cockpit, it also has an additional engine, behind the driver's back and installed in the tail of the car instead of the usual fuel tank. Two of these cars were built in Modena: one with 2905 cc engines for Louis Chiron and another for Nuvolari, also with two straight 8 engines but this time of a massive 3165 cc, capable of delivering a maximum power of 540 HP, giving a top speed of 325 km/h. The car on display comes from the FCA Heritage collection and is conserved at the "Museo Storico di Arese - La macchina del tempo".

Fiat Dino Spider (1969)

The Dino was built under an agreement between Fiat and Ferrari, signed to meet the Maranello firm's need to build enough Dino engines (so-called because they were based on a 1956 design by Enzo Ferrari's late son Alfredo, known as Dino) to obtain Formula 2 homologation for the Ferrari Dino 166 F2. The beautifully designed spider bodywork was styled and built by Pininfarina, with lines inspired by the Ferrari model of the same name. The second series, which appeared in 1969, featured minimal changes to its appearance and an updated engine: a 2418 cc V6 producing 180 HP, for a top speed of 210 km/h.

Lancia LC 2 (1983)

After the acclaimed 1980 and 1981 world sports-car championship victories achieved by the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo in Group 5 and the short career of the LC1 - which competed in world championship Group 6 in 1982 - Lancia prepared a new Group C car (factory code LC2) to race against the powerful Porsche 956 cars in the 1983 championship. The engine which drove it was supplied by Ferrari, which developed a naturally aspirated aluminium V8 with displacement reduced to 2.6 litres, to which Abarth added two KKK turbochargers. The maximum power was 700 HP and the top speed 360 km/h. Light, fast and with a very high torque, the LC2 was obviously going to be competitive and official cars plus one private crew achieved impressive placings: no fewer than thirteen poles and three wins, in the Imola 1000 km, the Spa Francorchamps 24 Hour and the Kyalami 9 Hour races.

Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari (2009)

The Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari is the exclusive special version that confirms the bond between the Scorpion brand and the Maranello constructor, based on many shared values such as a passion for performance, a racing soul, obsessive attention to detail and Italian style. Produced in a numbered limited edition of just over a thousand, the car made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. Its distinctive features included stylistic touches but above all changes to its substance by the Abarth and Ferrari engineers, starting from the 1.4 Turbo T-Jet 16v engine - its power boosted to over 180 HP - combined with an MTA (Manual Transmission Automated) gearbox, and electro-actuated mechanics with racing-inspired steering wheel controls, which further enhanced the engine's performance with minimal shifting times. The car was fitted with high-performance 17" alloy wheels with a special design inspired by those used on Ferrari cars, and appeared in evocative Modena Yellow or Scuderia Red liveries. The instrument panel, specially produced by Jaeger, was inspired by the instrumentation used on Ferrari cars.

Leasys continues with its internationalization process

  • After Spain and France, the long-term rental and mobility company of FCA Bank now arrives in Germany and Great Britain.
  • Two very competitive markets, where flexible and innovative services are going to be a winning card.

Leasys SpA, the long-term rental and mobility company of FCA Bank, strengthens its European expansion by speaking English and German. In fact, after the entry of Spain and France, as of today, Leasys comes to Germany where a new branch of the Italian Holding has been opened, while in the United Kingdom Leasys has taken over the rental business of FCA Fleet Services UK, a fast growing company in these last years.

FCA Bank Group has made internationalization a key part of its diversification and growth strategy. The company aims to increase its market share by featuring the new line of FCA vehicles, like the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia, Fiat Tipo and Jeep Compass. This operation, by the end of the year, will see Leasys offering its services in seven European countries in which the banking Group is already active, opening new offices, as with Germany and Spain, or assuming control of already existing companies, as in the case of the United Kingdom and France.

They are very competitive markets, where Leasys can make its mark thanks to the flexibility of its mobility solutions and the innovation of its services.

UK is actually the European "cradle" of the long-term vehicle rental business; it is a mature market, where clients - both private and business - have since many years developed a strong tendency towards the concept of use versus own, with an eye toward integrated mobility. On the other hand, in Germany, ecological sustainability is a key issue and long-term rental business is growing along with other forms of mobility, like fleet management and operative leasing.

Two very different challenges which Leasys meets with many years of experience at the top of the Italian market in terms of number of vehicles put into service. Last year it achieved an all-time record with more than 54,000 rental contracts signed; this milestone was reached thanks to its innovative services based on digital technology, a strategic asset in business development that Leasys keeps supporting with significant investments.

But it is mostly due to the flexibility of the solutions offered that has Leasys confident of conquering, on one hand, the client who is already familiar with the rental concept and, on the other hand, that client who is yet to appreciate the convenience of long-term renting.

To guide Leasys in its London office, Roberto Bellavia was called to work under the direction of Alex Hughes, manager of the FCA Bank Group UK organization. Bellavia is supported by the team that led FCA Fleet Services UK to enter the top half of the FN50 ranking, the prestigious rating published annually by Fleet News.

In Frankfurt, Michael Briante will lead the company under the coordination of Daniel Mundzeck, manager of FCA Bank Deutschland; Leasys Deutschland will offer a complete range of products, from Fleet Management to Long-Term Rental to Full Service Leasing, in close synergy with the other companies within the Group.

With the expansion into the key markets, Leasys will be increasingly competitive and better able to meet the needs of its international customers.

Fiat Professional at “Il Salone del Camper 2017” in Parma

  • The unstoppable Ducato 4x4, the new development in the undisputed leader in the Recreational Vehicle sector, is here.
  • The star of the event is the Fiat Ducato 4x4 Expedition 2017 Show Vehicle, intended for customers with a sporty, adventurous lifestyle who also want the best technological contents.
  • The Fiat Professional stand also features Talento, in Camper Show Vehicle version, and Fullback Cross, ideal for outdoor activities.
  • Sales on the European Camper market have risen in 2017, with major growth in camper-vans.

"Il Salone del Camper 2017", Italy's biggest caravanning exhibition, is held in Parma from 9 to 17 September, with Fiat Professional playing a key role, reflecting its leadership in the recreational vehicle conversion sector. Every year, this international event, held at Parma's innovative exhibition centre, attracts not only producers and professionals but many outdoor tourism enthusiasts and those curious to know more.

The supreme star is the Ducato model, the ideal camper base for all motor-home lovers, as well as undisputed leader on the European markets, chosen as "best motorhome base of the year" by readers of Promobil specialist magazine for the tenth time. The Ducato 4x4 Expedition 2017 Show Vehicle makes its Italian debut at the event. Built on the four-wheel drive variant, this vehicle opens out new horizons for active holidays and once again underlines the Fiat Professional brand's special flair for anticipating the latest trends in a constantly growing sector. More and more enthusiasts are viewing their recreational vehicles not just as a practical solution, but also as an expression of their personal lifestyles, lived off the beaten track.

Also highlighted is another show vehicle, based on Talento, an excellent alternative for those in search of a more compact, agile camper-van. Specifically addressing the motorsport world, this vehicle is an on-road version with lower suspension and various racing details, intended for use as a paddock vehicle, for transporting motorbikes and as a rest area. What's more, visitors to "Il Salone del Camper 2017" in Parma will enjoy a close look at the new Fullback Cross pickup, ideal for outdoor activities with its four-wheel drive and roomy 5-seater cab, and a first-hand view of the technologies incorporated in a camper built on a Ducato base, thanks to a chassis cab version on display on the stand.

Although few in number, the vehicles on display at the Parma show effectively exhibit Fiat Professional's vast expertise and talent for offering innovative solutions to this sector's needs. For example, to respond to the demand for smaller, more versatile vehicles, the brand offers Talento, in a segment below Ducato in terms of size. For camper-van lovers in search of genuine adventure, the new Ducato 4x4, with its four-wheel drive, provides the freedom to seek out fresh, extraordinary experiences. It should be remembered that the camper-van is increasingly becoming a lifestyle enabler: not just a vehicle for use on holidays, but a means to freedom, for users to go wherever they want, whenever they want.

A few figures confirm the widespread return to nature and the "outdoor life", as people reinforce their bond with the environment. In fact, in 2017, the European camper market is projected to total more than 105,000 units, an increase of 10 percent with respect to the previous year, which already recorded significant growth. This means that the market has taken off again after the global slump which began in 2009, recording a 60 percent increase in sales since that time. A large share of this increase is thanks to the camper-van category, i.e. the segment of recreational vehicles built on a van base, which accounts for about 30 percent of the market.

Ducato 4x4 Expedition 2017: even more multi-faceted with four-wheel drive

After its recent debut at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon 2017, today the Italian public has the first chance to see the Ducato 4x4 Expedition 2017, the ideal solution for those in search of the utmost freedom, and for lovers of exploration tourism, or unconventional adventures. Based on the new 4x4 version of Ducato, the special Show CamperVan on display in Parma has been created for customers with a sporty, adventurous lifestyle who also want the best technological contents.

The Ducato 4x4 Expedition 2017 show vehicle has a four-wheel drive and all-terrain base which extends the potential for motorhome travel. The four-wheel drive is permanent, with two transfer cases and an automatically operated central viscous coupling. This device ensures the optimal drive torque split between the front and rear wheels, optimising traction on mud, snow and sand. The driveline is set to one side so that it takes up less room underneath the chassis and does not restrict the ease of outfitting, one of the Ducato recreational vehicle's key plus factors. The new 4x4 traction system is also integrated with the Ducato safety systems, specifically ESC (electronic stability control). This enables Ducato 4x4 to ensure excellent road-holding even when loaded to full capacity, as frequently happens with camper vans.

The new 4x4 range, which includes all Ducato versions (not just vans but also trucks, in all the many versions available in the normal 4x2 range) perfectly expresses the Fiat Professional Brand's ability to perceive, anticipate and satisfy the market's evolving needs, nourished by skills acquired over almost a century in the sector.

It was during the 1920s that the concept of the recreational vehicle first appeared, when cars ceased to be exclusively elite products as vehicle ownership started to spread through society. The real revolution in the demand for vehicles designed for camping came in the late Sixties: this type of tourism became especially popular with young people, and the Fiat brand was quick to respond to the growing demand with the presentation, in 1967, of the 238, the vehicle which celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year. It load capacity was outstanding by the standards of the time and, above all, it had an "everything forward" architecture, with front engine and front-wheel drive, ideal for recreational vehicle conversions since it left plenty of space behind the cab for the living area.

Working with that aim, continued through its many subsequent and ever more sophisticated developments, up to and including the introduction of 4x4, today the Fiat Professional brand can express its background to the full by identifying the new opportunities offered by an increasingly fast-growing market. Fiat has always made customer-orientation its mission, never more so than in the 2006 generation of the Ducato, the first model to be technically developed from the outside with the need of camper van transformation firmly in mind. Not an adaptation, but "naturally a camper van", with all the strength of its in-depth experience. But the Fiat Professional approach reaches far beyond the product itself. Camper van owners have specific needs, satisfied and supported through a range of services constantly extended year-by-year to respond to every customer's requirements.
