Fiat launches facelifted Punto Evo hatchback in India

Fiat's Indian division has published the first official images of the facelifted Punto hatchback.

Called Punto Evo locally, the Indian-spec Punto stands out from the model sold in Europe thanks to more angular headlights and a new bumper that incorporates a wider radiator grille and a bigger air dam. New paint colors, LED tail lamps and numerous chrome-look accents all around finish off the updates.

Inside, the differences between the two models are minor and largely limited to market-specific trim. The two cars share the same dashboard, the same steering wheel and the same seats. The Punto Evo can be equipped with automatic A/C, cruise control, LED ambient lighting and Bluetooth connectivity, while top two trim levels come standard with front and side airbags.

The Punto's entry-level engine is a 1.2-liter four-cylinder that generates 68 horsepower. Buyers looking for more power can order a 90-horsepower 16-valve 1.4-liter unit, and Fiat offers a 1.3-liter turbodiesel rated at either 76 or 93 horsepower. All engines send power to the front wheels via a manual transmission.

The facelifted Fiat Punto will go on sale across India next week. Pricing information hasn't been published yet.

What's Next?

The European-spec Punto will not undergo similar updates. An earlier report indicates the nameplate will be phased out entirely in the next couple of years and replaced by a similarly-sized hatchback with a 500-inspired design that will slot between the standard 500 and the larger 500L. Expected to ride on an evolution of the Dodge Dart's Compact U.S. Wide platform, the yet-unnamed Punto replacement will go head-to-head against the Ford Fiesta.

Fiat has introduced two new special edition models at the Miami Auto Show, the 500 Ribelle and 500L Urbana Trekking, with both featuring unique exterior and interior features.

As its name suggests, the 500 Ribelle is said to highlight the rebellious side of the Fiat 500, featuring red and gloss black exterior accents. Based on the Fiat 500 Pop, the 500 Ribelle has red roof, spoiler and mirror caps complemented by gloss black headlamp and tail lamp bezels, as well as gloss black wheels with red wheel caps.

The limited-production 2015 Fiat 500 Ribelle will be available in studios in December with a $17,395 starting starting price (not including destination).

The Fiat 500L Urbana Trekking is based on the 500L Trekking and features unique black accents and six exterior colors. Black accents include the exterior mirrors and bezels on the front and rear fascia, side sills, body-side molding and 17-inch wheels. The door handles, tail lamp bezels and accents on the front and rear fascia are in Satin Chrome.

The model is available with six paint colors, including Forest Green Pearl, Deep Lava Red, yellow, white, Gray Metallic and Blue Tornado, paired with a black roof.

Inside, the 500L Urbana Trekking gains black leather steering wheel, leatherette door bolsters and cloth seats, as well as a gloss black bezel on the instrument panel for vehicles with glossy exterior paints. The car features the Beats Audio system as standard, along with SiriusXM Radio. The 2015 Fiat 500L Urbana Trekking will be available in Fiat studios in the first quarter of 2015 from $22,795 (not including destination).

Am primit buletinul de stiri de la FIAT:

The new Fiat 500X crossover

After making its debut at the Paris Motor Show with an original reveal, today the 500X is presented to the international press, the new compact crossover from the 500 family which marks the evolution of the brand, a further expression of the technological maturity that runs in its blood.

A beauty with character, the new car explores a brand-new dimension of being 500, where a mature, elegant, all-Italian style "clothes" - like haute couture - the substance of a car that is comfortable, high-performance and always in touch with the world: this is the X side of beauty, and this is the soul of the Fiat 500X.

A descendent of the 1957 Fiat 500 - the stylistic reference of the rounded lights and the classic logo with the chrome-plated moustache on the front end is clear - the new Fiat crossover extends the 500 family, comprising the 500, 500C, 500L, 500L Trekking and 500L Living models: cars diverse in vocation and character, but which all share the same roots: the iconic Fiat 500.

Built at the updated SATA plant in Melfi (Potenza) and sold in more than 100 countries worldwide, including the United States, the new Fiat 500X will be available in two different versions with two different souls - one more "metropolitan", the other ideal for leisure use -, equipped with efficient diesel and petrol engines, three types of transmission - manual, 9-speed automatic or twin-clutch 6-speed automatic - and with front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive with "Traction Plus" configurations.

The Fiat 500X is a crossover not only in its very nature, but also because it appeals to a wide range of customers, male and female, of different ages, with different needs and tastes. In this sense, the "X" symbol represents a crossroads between several very different segments, each inhabited by the young and the mature, lovers of beauty and connoisseurs of character. These people are dynamic, with an active social life and they cultivate different passions and interests. What they have in common, however, is the desire to enjoy a satisfying driving experience and express their own personality through a distinctive style. For all of them today, there's one clear, comprehensive response: the Fiat 500X.

The 500X comes in two versions: the first - available in Pop, Popstar and Lounge trim levels and featuring distinctive, elegant styling - is sure to win over young, dynamic, metropolitan customers. The second version - available in Cross and Cross Plus trim levels and boasting a more off-road look and technology - is the ideal solution for those who love leisure and the outdoors, but don't want to compromise on the unique style of the Fiat 500.

The new Fiat 500X crossover will be available from 2015.

“Enjoy”, the Eni car sharing scheme, comes to Florence

185 thousand members and 1 and a half million rentals in Milan and Rome

Enjoy, Eni's car sharing scheme implemented in partnership with Fiat and Trenitalia, was introduced in Florence only a few days ago, with a fleet that will include 200 Fiat 500s when complete. The Tuscan capital is the third city, after Milan and Rome, to revolutionise mobility with a car sharing service featuring free online registration, competitive rates and a simple, immediate customer experience.

The initiative was officially presented today in the Sala d'Arme at Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria in an event attended by city mayor Dario Nardella and representatives of Eni, Fiat and Trenitalia.

The Enjoy car sharing service in Florence will work the same way as the schemes already in place in Milan and Rome: users will be able to locate and book the nearest vehicle using a smartphone app (for Android, iOS and Windows Phone) or via the web site enjoy.eni.com. They can also choose to pick up a free vehicle on the street and start using it right away. The cars have free access to the ZTL limited traffic zone in the city centre and can be left in any permitted parking space, including spaces reserved for residents and pay parking spots marked in blue, in the area covered by the service when no longer needed or temporarily in "park" mode. The area covered by the service in Florence is about 56 square km, and all the Fiat 500s in the fleet in Florence have euro 6 approval and parking sensors and are approved for use by up to four people.

This efficient, innovative, sustainable service will give mobility in Florence a boost of new energy, offering the most competitive rates on the market: 25 cents a minute in motion (for the first 50 km, after which a rate of 25 cents per km also applies) and 10 cents a minute when left parked. This rate is all-inclusive, because it includes insurance, maintenance, fuel and parking.

Milan and Rome now number a joint total of 185 thousand members and 1 and a half million rentals.

To offer users even more benefits, Enjoy has just signed three new business partnerships. Vodafone will display its brand on Enjoy cars starting with the Florence fleet and new members who are already Vodafone customers will receive a 10 euro welcome voucher.

American Express will allow its customers to use their credit cards to register for Enjoy car sharing.

All members of MasterCard's Priceless Cities programme, who join the Enojy car sharing, will receive a 10 euro welcome bonus.

The Fiat 500X and Dynamo, the stars of the "The Power of X” European Experience

Fiat has partnered with the world-renowned magician, Dynamo, who stars in the 500X pre-launch phase. The artist and the new crossover are set to feature in an extraordinary experience, made accessible through special virtual reality headsets to guests at the 676 European events set to take place prior to the 500X showroom debut, scheduled for next February. The 120" film was put together by Framestore, a double-Oscar winning creative studio who specialises in special effects. More information on the "The Power of X" initiative is available at the dedicated site: 500x.fiat500.com

To mark the Fiat 500X pre-launch phase, the Fiat brand has announced its collaboration with world famous magician, Dynamo, who has been dominating the international magic scene since 2011 with his TV show "Magician Impossible". Now that "Magician Impossible" has come to an end this partnership with Fiat is Dynamo's first step in the next phase of his increasingly thrilling journey.

Dynamo's TV shows have been seen by over 250 million viewers across 180 countries and his incredible feats include walking on the River Thames,  predicting the outcome of the World Cup and levitating above Europe's tallest building and he is the worlds most followed magician on social media with over 4.9 million Facebook fans and 2.3 million followers on Twitter.

The new Fiat Crossover and Dynamo have come together for the exciting European experience, "The Power of X". From late November, the #thepowerofX experience will take the 500X to the main squares of 74 European cities and to 602 exclusive premières hosted at Fiat dealerships all over Europe. Throughout the activity, members of the public will be able to get up close to the 500X ahead of its showroom debut scheduled for next February.

Guests will be able to take part in an extraordinary  experience made accessible through special Virtual Reality headsets. Using the VR headsets, guests on the "The Power of X" tour will be able to view a performance by Dynamo, who will appear, alongside the Fiat 500X, in an extraordinary interactive journey put together by Framestore, a double-Oscar winning creative studio who specialises in special effects. Fiat, Dynamo, and Framestore have created the first ever virtual reality magic experience.

All in the name of "X", an ancient, magical symbol which brings together Dynamo's art and the new model from the Fiat brand.  "X" represents change and transformation, but at the same time also a balance or a crossroads between opposing entities, as is the case in the new Fiat crossover, where the symbol expresses the "transversality" of a product which is ideally placed at the intersection between several different automotive segments.

The "X" concept is also reflected in the installation which will be assembled at each stage of the tour, as well as the backdrop set up inside participating showrooms for #thepowerofX. In both settings, participants will go on a double journey - real and virtual - to discover the new model. Not only will they be able to touch the vehicle with their bare hands, appreciating its seductive lines and high-quality materials, as well as heading out on the road with a professional driver, they'll also take part in an immersive experience that uses a Virtual Reality headset  positioned over the eyes to reproduce 360º, 3D environments.

This is the first time that a video of such high quality - according to Framestore, the best virtual reality product ever made - has been produced to relay in 2 minutes an encompassing story with high visual impact. Simply consider the fact that the project required 184 years' worth of computer render hours (it was completed on time thanks to the might of the Framestore render farm). As it had to be an exceptional 360 degree experience, the video boasts 4x HD resolution (4096x2048 pixels) and 60 frames per second, meaning rendering 2.4x more frames than standard 3D videos. Then there's the stereo, which doubles things again.

Guests will then be able to recreate this incredible virtual experience at home using the special "Cardboard" toolkits they'll receive for free at the dealership and city centre events. This original gadget comprises a piece of carefully folded cardboard containing a pair of lenses which, via a designated smartphone app, becomes a kind of virtual reality headset.

Today at the "Riccardo Paletti" Racetrack in Varano de' Melegari (Parma), the new Abarth 695 biposto is being presented to the international press and made available for test drives. It's the ideal synthesis of road-going and racing cars, the "translation" of racing into a car made for daily life.

In the year of the legendary Fiat Abarth 695's 50th anniversary, Abarth pays homage with the new Abarth 695 biposto, which made its official début at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Available for order from June of this year, the brand's modern icon has already acquired a number of orders far exceeding the production capacity for the current year.

A success announced in advance by the great enthusiasm with which the Abarth 695 biposto was received at the main European automotive events in which it took part: Goodwood, Festival of Speed, LeMans Classic, Lignières Historique, Salon Privée. That's not to mention the Gumball 3000, a prestigious supercar showcase that, for the first time, adopted an official car: the 695 biposto, in fact. Now the "smallest of the supercars" is ready to unleash its 190 HP on the roads of Europe, with the first deliveries set for the end of the year.

A high-adrenaline car created in the Officine Abarth in Turin, where craftsmanship and attention to detail, typical of Abarth's most exclusive cars, meet the best of race car technology. From its founding to the present day, Abarth has never shrunk from challenges that at times seem impossible: the Abarth 695 biposto - the smallest of the supercars - is yet another demonstration that ingenuity and passion know no limits.

The 695 biposto epitomises the philosophy of Carlo Abarth - summed up by the slogan "Sunday on the track and Monday in the office" - who wanted to offer everybody the chance to live out their passion every day, making ordinary products extraordinary and making normal people feel like racing drivers every day.

The price list for the Abarth 695 biposto varies according to the destination market, to best satisfy the specific requirements of each country. To see the various offers, the local Abarth Press sites are available.

  • The success is the result of biggest pre-launch campaign ever for a Jeep model in the EMEA region with hundreds of events and more than 3700 test drives.
  • Built in Italy and sold in over 100 countries worldwide, including the USA, the Jeep Renegade has a strong stylistic personality and its compact size is perfect for use in both towns and on off-road trails.
  • It is the first FCA model to use the innovative "4x4 Small Wide" architecture which combines the best off-road features in its class and excellent road-holding qualities.
  • For the Jeep Renegade, the Mopar brand has created a wide range of accessories and exclusive services capable of satisfying any customisation need.

In all Jeep dealers, it is now avaible the new Renegade, fitted with an innovative nine-speed automatic transmission matched to a 2.0 Multijet second generation turbo engine delivering 140 or 170 HP and to "Jeep Active Drive Low" 4x4 system. Equipping the Trailhawk and Limited trim levels, the new transmission is entirely new in its class. It optimises the power generated by the engine to secure brilliant pick-up and smooth, effective power delivery at motorway speeds.

For Price list of the Limited and Trailhawk with 9 speed gear, refer to your local Jeep press website.

The important product news is also the focus on the new TV, radio and web advertising campaign which will be kicked off on December 7 in Italy followed by the main European countries.

The new Trailhawk is the Renegade with the strongest off-road vocation suited in the most adverse weather conditions and always engaged in case of need. It is packed with the right technical equipment to enhance these capabilities. Exclusively fitted with a 2.0 Multijet 170 HP engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission, the Trailhawk equipped with the best Jeep off-road technology is the pinnacle of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles engineering innovation.

The state-of-the-art technology enhances the bold, distinctive design of Renegade conveyed on the outside by robust dimensions, a tough-looking body and aggressive proportions. It is beyond doubt: Renegade is definitely Jeep, as confirmed by the brand's typical seven slot grille and the large round headlights arranged on the upper part of the front. The Jeep DNA can be seen in style details which make proud reference to its legendary history: the rear light clusters in an "X" pattern inspired by military standard petrol cans and the "Since 1941" label on the frame surrounding the touchscreen to pay homage the origins of Jeep trademark.

The interiors of the new Renegade stand out for the special style, named "Tek-Tonic" by Jeep designers, which combines pleasant-to-the-touch, rounded shapes with robust, functional details. Functional audaciously designed elements, like the passenger grab handle, blend with large surfaces, like the soft upholstery on the integrated instrument panel. Indispensable for off-road adventures, the robust handle is taken from the bigger, legendary Jeep Wrangler.

Over 100 exclusive accessories are available from Mopar - the reference brand for services, Customer Care, genuine spare parts and accessories of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles - for many, distinctive customisation ideas, like the original "US Army Star" sticker to be applied to the body.

Modern, anti-conformistic design full of iconic details is one of the main reasons for the success of Jeep Renegade, which is selling very well. The model accounts for about half of total Jeep sales across Europe since it was launched, with Italy, where the car is produced, contributing for more than that.

The model's excellent performance was anticipated by the exclusive limited "Opening Edition" created on the top of the range Limited trim level and available at launch only, which offered a remarkably advantageous price-to-content ratio for the first two thousand orders during the first few weeks from its debut.

The new Renegade is also reaping the benefits of the biggest pre-launch campaign every set up in Europe for a Jeep model. Starting from June 1 -four months before it actually appeared in European showrooms - the new car starred in a number of events in Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland and Spain. Hundreds of events were staged and over 3700 test drives were organised.

Nine-speed automatic transmission, for the first time in its class

For the first time in its class, Jeep Renegade fitted with a new nine-speed automatic transmission which optimises the power developed by the engine to secure brilliant pick-up and smooth, effective power delivery at motorway speeds at the same time.

Available on the Trailhawk and Limited versions paired with a 2.0 Multijet II 140 or 170 HP turbo diesel engine and "Jeep Active Drive Low" all-wheel drive, the new transmission ensures faster reactivity, quicker acceleration and smoother shifting. The generous differential delivers a powerful transmission ratio of 4.71 in first gear for high performance also at low rpm with short speed excursions.

A unique set of four overdrive ratios means better fuel efficiency on the motorway cycle and an overall reduction of noise, vibrations and hardness (NVH).

All electronic, the AT9 transmission implements a "shift-on-the-fly" map and allows manual shifts using the AutoStick. Over 20 single shifting maps for specific conditions optimise shifting point quality to the benefit of fuel efficiency, performance and handling.

The transmission software is tuned to determine the most appropriate shifting mode according to employed torque, kick downs, longitudinal and lateral accelerations and changes of grade.

The transmission control strategy carefully monitors temperature, speed, electronic stability control activation to improve driving comfort and attention to details. The result is automatic gear shifts which are perfectly suited to the performance requirements of the current driving style.

The nine-speed automatic transmission combined with the 2.0 Multijet II turbo diesel 140 or 170 HP engine is always assisted by Jeep Active Drive Low all-wheel drive. In particular, the Jeep Active Drive Low adds Hill-Descent Control capabilities to Selec-Terrain and, in the Trailhawk, implements the "Rock" mode which maximises wheel traction to obtain the best grip.

Hill-Descent Control (HDC) allows a gradual, controlled descent on rough or slippery terrain without needing to press the brake pedal. When it is activated, the car can tackle steeper hills exploiting the ABS system to control the speed of each wheel and guarantee optimal dynamics and pace.

Jeep Renegade Trailhawk

This is the most off-road version of the range and the best SUV in its class for all-terrain driving. Its bold looks are complemented by a comprehensive pack of off-road features, which include the Jeep Active Drive Low system with 20:1 final drive ratio, the Selec-Terrain system with exclusive Rock and Hill Descent Control modes.

The special features for enhancing its capabilities include ground clearance increased by 35 mm in respect to the 4x2 version, off-road suspensions, protection plates and exclusive front and rear rubbing strips in addition to aggressive approach and departure angles. The off-road capabilities of the 4x4 TrailRated are guaranteed by a first gear ratio of 4.71:1 and a final drive ratio of 20:1, the best in its class.

Jeep Renegade Trailhawk is exclusively fitted with a 2.0 MultiJet II 170 HP engine combined with the new nine-speed automatic transmission which is tuned to the specific peculiarities of the model. The many standard features include 17" aluminium, black painted, diamond-pattern rims, M+S tyres, dark grey roof bars, dark satin grey mirror caps, "TrailRated" badge, halogen front fog lights, 7" multiple-view premium TFT colour display, leather gear knob, rear parking sensor, tinted rear windows, red front hook and two-zone automatic climate control.

Optional equipment include bonnet stickers, leather seats, LaneDepartureWarning-Plus system, satellite navigator with 5" or  6.5" touchscreen (with 3D reference points), My SkyTM sunroof and open-air system and Visibility and Function packs.

The biggest pre-launch campaign for a Jeep model in EMEA

Before reaching showrooms across Europe, Jeep Renegade starred in the biggest pre-launch campaign ever set up in EMEA for a Jeep model. The so called "Summer Tour" across the main European markets (Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland and Spain) was kicked off on June 1 with hundreds of events organised at dealerships, product previews and placements. Over 3700 test drives were organised. The events were very successful and attracted great crowds.

From the launch in Geneve in March, digital activities were the first to be undertaken , obtaining more than 3mio visits to the websites and almost 30 thousands registrations.

The many events included a treasure hunt organised by the German market which awarded a Jeep Renegade 2.0 MultiJet "Opening Edition" to the winner. The car was found in a hidden corner of Transylvania (Romania) by two young competitors from Saxony after five days on the road, 1300 kilometres and various adventures, all in perfect harmony with the most authentic Jeep values.

Also very successful was the European tour which took four Jeep Renegades to several major events a few months before production was kicked-off, like the "X-Fighter Games" in Madrid, the "Hamburg Harley Days" meeting in Germany, the exciting "Surf Worldcup Fehmarn" also in Germany, the "Surf Expo Santa Severa" in Rome, the "Carrara 4x4 Fest" in Italy and the International Boat Show in Genoa. Interestingly, the four Renegades sported special outfits which made reference to some iconic Jeep details, like the military petrol can "X" pattern and the famous US army star.

Exclusive previews were organised in selected Jeep dealerships, like the "Jeep Renegade Experience Tour" in France, the "Jeep Dealer Tour" and the "Jeep Renegade Dealer Challenge" in Germany. Finally, a special installation with a huge poster (over 300 square metres) with a Jeep Renegade on top was placed in a clearly visible position on the A1 motorway from CDG airport to the Paris city centre during the Paris Motor show.

Last but not least, Jeep Renegade also featured at the Rolling Stones' "14 On Fire" European Tour last summer. As Presenting Sponsor and exclusive automotive partner of the tour, Jeep chose to present the new Renegade in preview at all shows after June 22 at the Circo Massimo in Rome.

Whatever your passion or task for the vehicle, the New Doblò gives you great modularity of interior space - ever a strong point of the model - offering up to 7 seats, the ample 790-litre luggage compartment (heading up the segment), the many storage compartments and the useful split rear seat (60/40).

What's more, the New Doblò guarantees the best handling in the category - in part thanks to Bi-link suspension, exclusive in the segment - and the enhanced well-being on board, as demonstrated by a light, airy passenger compartment with excellent climatic and acoustic comfort. This comfortable and practical environment can also boast safety content that places it at the top of its category: again as standard are front airbags, ESP system and Hill Holder function.

Another record set by the New Doblò is its engine range, one of the widest and most comprehensive in the category, comprising no fewer than 7 units - power from 90 to 135 HP fuelled by petrol, diesel and methane. On sale in 29 countries in the EMEA area, the New Doblò offers 3 trim levels (Pop, Easy and Lounge), 2 roof heights, 2 wheelbases, 11 body colours (including the new Colosseo Grey), 5 interiors and 2 seat configurations (standard with 5 seats, on request with 7).

As in the previous generations, the New Doblò is produced in the Tofaş plant in Bursa, Turkey, one of the best industrial automotive sites in the world, as demonstrated by the Gold Medal it was awarded during the World Class Manufacturing assessment.

Style

A thorough overhaul of the exterior and interior design, as seen from the modern and distinctive front end, standing out on which are the new bumpers and streamlined bonnet in harmony with the curve of the roof. New features on the light clusters too, front and rear, which develop harmoniously and elegantly, highlighting the horizontal path of the vehicle's lines, as well as being positioned high up to protect them from small impacts.

Seen from the side, the New Doblò is characterised by a line that runs along the whole side, lending dynamism and drive to the vehicle.  A certain flowing quality is instead provided by a continuous section running low down, from the front wheel arch to the rear, passing through the side strip. The extensive glazed surface too makes a great impression, enhanced by convenient sliding doors that make it even easier to settle on board.

Also making their contribution to the clean style of the side are the door mirrors, with integrated direction indicators. The large mirrors ensure optimum visibility and can, on request, feature electrically controlled folding. Finally, standing out at the side are the 16" alloy wheel rims or the new hub caps, while on the tailgate is a striking "logo holder" band in the same colour as the body, which lightens the overall line.

New Doblò customers can choose between 11 body colours including the new Colosseo Grey, which further enhances the harmonious form, lending it an appearance which is simultaneously elegant and distinctive.

The style has also been updated for the interior, which was designed to offer great functionality, as well as the widest variety of personalisation, thanks to a combination of colours, materials and trim. Among the main new features is the new ergonomic dashboard, which, depending on the trim level, has a fascia with a colour that varies to match the seat and door panel trim. In detail, the Easy version features a new fabric trim which can be red or grey, depending on the customer's wishes (in both cases the dashboard is grey), while the passenger compartment of the New Doblò Pop is characterised by a shade of grey both for the fabric trim and the dashboard. Finally, the Lounge trim level offers two solutions: grey or beige dashboard and fabric.

Also new are the ergonomic steering wheel and the instrument panel, which is updated with clear, attractive graphics for reading all the information useful to the driver at a glance. In addition, it's easier to access the buttons for the Start&Stop, ASR and methane fuel supply (where present) systems on the new model.

This is all enhanced by many practical storage compartments, such as - for example - the front drawer which can hold a 10" tablet or the extremely useful "hood" - a convenient open compartment on the top of the windscreen - which also houses the baby surveillance mirror. In short, there's a real wealth of smart solutions for using the internal space to meet the needs of those who take the New Doblò and use it as a vehicle for life with family and friends.

Engine versions

The new model boasts one of the widest engine ranges in the segment. All are characterised by qualities of reliability, performance and respect for the environment. The petrol units are the 1.4 95 HP and 1.4 T-JET 120 HP, while the turbodiesels are the 1.6 MultiJet 90 HP (also with Dualogic robotised gearbox), the 1.6 MultiJet 105 HP and the 2.0 MultiJet 135 HP.

The offer is completed by the dual-fuel (petrol/methane) 1.4 T-JET 120 HP Natural Power, which ensures the same performance as the petrol version together with all the financial and environmental benefits offered by methane.

Versatility

The New Doblò heads up the category in terms of modular internal space, as demonstrated by the front passenger seat that can fold down to a table (optional) and those of the second and third row (in the case of the 7-seat configuration), which can be reclined and folded down easily thanks to the practical and ergonomic movement levers, or even removed completely, thus creating a truly extensive space the entire length of which can be exploited.

That's without mentioning the luggage compartment boasting category-leading dimensions: in the short wheelbase version, 790 litres are available (measured up to the parcel shelf), becoming 1,050 litres in the long wheelbase version. If the rear seats are folded down, the volume increases to 3,200 and 4,000 litres respectively: these are record values for the segment. And there's even more: contributing to the great flexibility of the New Doblò is the possibility of positioning the parcel shelf at several levels (it boasts a record capacity of 70 kg, no less).

Handling

The New Doblò is at the top of its class for dynamic performance, handling and driving satisfaction. Among other things, merit for this goes to the Bi-link rear suspension system - an exclusive for the model - which includes independent wheels, anti-roll bar, dual calibration rear shock absorbers (calibrated rebound and compression for the best in terms of handling, comfort, roll and stability) and high-performance springs to provide better damping performance on all roads.

One element which contributes to driving satisfaction is the improved gear lever manoeuvrability. Several technical interventions now have contributed to lowering the required effort and providing greater gear shifting accuracy. Furthermore, the interaction between available torque and pedal operation has been improved, to deliver more torque the action on the pedal being equal: the advantages for the driver are particularly obvious in normal conditions of use at low rpm and in city traffic.

Infotainment

On the infotainment front, the New Doblò offers two content levels according to trim level, both of which are sure to guarantee an exciting musical experience. The first system has an active matrix display, FM/AM radio, USB media player/iPod connection, AUX-IN port, automatically adjusting volume according to speed, Bluetooth technology (without voice recognition) and controls on the steering wheel (the latter optional).

The New Doblò also comes with the popular Uconnect 5" multimedia system already fitted on many Fiat vehicles. More in detail, the high-tech device is based on a 5" colour touchscreen, one of the largest of the segment, for accessing the main functions, which include analogue and digital radio (the latter optional) and multimedia resources (media player, iPod, iPhone, smartphone) which can be connected by USB port and AUX-IN connector.

In addition, the system includes an advanced Bluetooth interface to access additional functions, such as phone call management or reading received SMS text messages via text-to-speech technology, not to mention the innovative Audio Streaming system to play audio files and web radio stations directly from your smartphone in streaming via Bluetooth on the Uconnect device.

The Uconnect 5" system is completed by controls on the steering wheel and eco:Drive software to help save fuel and cut CO2 emissions. Integrated navigation developed in collaboration with TomTom is also available on demand.

Safety and well-being on board

In terms of safety, the New Doblò ensures total passenger protection by fitting state-of-the-art electronic devices for stability control, namely ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution), ESC complete with ASR (Anti Slip Regulation), HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) and Hill Holder systems to help on hill starts. Safety equipment includes front airbags (side bags are optional) and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Travelling in the New Doblò with its airy environment, pleasant surfaces, comfortable wrap-around seats and extensive glazed surface is always a great experience. The raised driving position and the ergonomic control arrangement make the space easy and particularly pleasant to handle.

The climate inside the passenger compartment is crucial for comfort on the road and is equally important for preventative safety, because temperature, humidity and ventilation all influence the driver's well-being and level of attention as a consequence. This is why the New Doblò fits a climate control system - either automatic or manual according to trim levels - with larger sized, elegantly shaped front vents and direct ventilation in the rear part of the vehicle.

Counting on a quiet passenger compartment for playing music or simply talking is important for stress-free driving. This is why new soundproofing material was used to make the New Doblò to improve the articulation index by 5 per cent in average (measured on diesel engine versions).

Range

Marketed in 29 countries in the EMEA area, the New Doblò range features 3 trim levels (Pop, Easy and Lounge), 2 roof heights, 2 wheelbases, 11 body colours, 2 seat configurations (5 or 7 seats), 5 interior environments and 7 engine versions: 1.4 95 HP and 1.4 T-JET 120 HP petrol, 1.6 MultiJet 90 HP (also with Dualogic robotised gearbox), 1.6 MultiJet 105 HP and 2.0 MultiJet 135 HP turbodiesel in addition to the dual-fuel (petrol/methane) 1.4 T-JET 120 HP Natural Power.

Below you'll find a description of the range destined for the entire EMEA region which, depending on the market, features some differences in content (standard or optional) in order to best meet the needs of the individual countries. To see the specific range for each country, visit your local Fiat Press website.

  • The latest addition to the Jeep family has achieved 85% ratings for adult and child occupant protection and 65% for pedestrian protection, with positive results in all main tests.
  • The safety device rating was 74%, thanks to the optional automatic braking system and the availability, as standard, of the speed regulator.
  • An even more significant rating, considering that from this year Euro NCAP has adopted much stricter access thresholds for the 5-star rating in relation to adult occupant, child occupant and pedestrian protection.
  • Contributing to the prestigious achievement are the "4x4 Small Wide architecture" and the many safety systems, provided as standard or on request, including 6 airbags as standard.
  • From last year, 5 EuroNCAP stars have also been shining for the New Jeep Cherokee.

The new Jeep Renegade is awarded the prestigious Euro NCAP 5-star rating with an overall score of 80/100, achieved 87% thanks to adult occupant protection, 85% thanks to child occupant protection, 65% thanks to pedestrian protection and 74% thanks to the driving assistance safety systems.

Thousands of hours of virtual simulations have permitted the development of the innovative "4x4 Small Wide" architecture - Renegade is the first FCA vehicle to adopt it - which offers a monocoque which makes extensive use of high-strength, ultra-high-strength and hot-pressed steels, with the final result of exceptional torsion resistance. The three load line front structure guarantees uniformity of response in the event of frontal impact regardless of the type of obstacle or vehicle the car crashes into.  What's more, despite the clear off-road vocation of the model, which is also expressed in the robust, square front end, the new Renegade ensures good pedestrian protection.

The quality of the virtual design was then tested physically on the cars produced at the SATA factory in Melfi with 300 tests on components and subsystems, more than 100 impact simulations and more than 100 crash tests taking into consideration the various types of impact - front, side, rollover, rear-ending and pedestrian impact - as well as the various speeds at which they can occur and the various physical characteristics of the passengers.

For comprehensive protection, the new Jeep Renegade comes as standard with 6 airbags (front for front passengers, side window bags for all rows, side bags for front seats) and ESC (electronic stability control) with ERM (electronic anti-rollover system). The safety equipment, depending on market and trim level, features as standard or on request, further important systems such as Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control (available from 2015) and ParkView reversing camera with dynamic grid lines.

One of the most innovative systems available on the new Jeep Renegade is the Forward Collision Warning-Plus (assisted braking system) - the first in the category in terms of reliability and precision - which uses radar and video sensors to detect whether the car is approaching another vehicle or obstacle in its path too rapidly. In these cases the system warns or assists the driver in order to avoid impact or mitigate its consequences.

Finally, the Jeep Renegade can be equipped with the "Lane Sense Departure Warning-Plus" and "Blind-spot Monitoring" systems. The first uses the camera's optical sensor to establish the road position of the vehicle with respect to the horizontal markings present on the road surface. In the case of an unintentional lane change, which the system recognises if the vehicle changes trajectory without activating the direction indicators, a visual alert is issued along with a tactile signal sent by the electric power steering (EPS). If the driver does not react promptly, the system issues a second visual alert. The "Blind-spot Monitoring" system, on the other hand, uses ultra broadband radar sensors to assist the driver during lane changes, indicating the presence of other vehicles in blind spots by lighting up icons on the door mirrors and activating an acoustic signal chosen by the driver.

Abarth will be Official Sponsor and Official Car Supplier for the Yamaha Factory Racing team taking part in the FIM MotoGP World Championship. The two-year agreement will see the Scorpion logo on the front cowling of the official Yamaha YZR-M1 machines being ridden by the legendary Valentino Rossi and multiple World Champion, Jorge Lorenzo.

The official announcement of the two-year partnership was made today in Madrid, at the headquarters of the Telefónica Group, where the new livery of the YZR-M1 to be used by Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo in the 2015 World MotoGP Championship was revealed.

The Scorpion logo, synonymous with "racing" and symbol of a heritage of victories and passion which gave rise to the birth of one of the great sensations in the cult of modern motor racing, is placed on the nose of the two M1. To seal the partnership, the Abarth logo will also be visible in the Team's official communications and interview backdrops, as well as on all key team assets.

Abarth will also provide Movistar Yamaha MotoGP with a number of FCA Italy vehicles all over the world. The assault to the world title will begin in Qatar on 29th March and will deliver the World Champion in Valencia on 8th November.

"The agreement comes from several shared values between the 2 Brands", says Marco Magnanini, Head of Abarth Brand for the Emea Region." Innovation, love for  performance and passion for racing: these are the pillars that allowed our two brands to build this prestigious partnership".

The flagship product of the sponsorship to Movistar Yamaha MotoGP is the 695 Biposto, the modern icon of the brand, which represents the ideal fusion of road and race cars, the "transfer" of racing thrills to a legally compliant car for everyday use. The Abarth 695 Biposto is the result of this exciting research: a 190 HP 4 T-jet engine (the most powerful ever installed on an Abarth road car), weighing just 997 Kg, a weight-to-power ratio of only 5.2 Kg/HP (the best in its category) and an acceleration of 0-100km/h in just 5.9'', and record agility thanks also to its increased wheel track and compact body. Furthermore, it is the first road car in its category in the world at present to be equipped with a dog-ring gearbox.

With special bodywork bearing the colours and the blue and white squares in honour of the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team, an example of the "smallest of the supercars" was the star of a photo shoot, taken at Gerno Di Lesmo a few days ago in the presence of the riders Rossi and Lorenzo.

With a victory record of 6 World Champion titles won since 2004, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP is one of the most successful teams in the world. Similarly, Abarth has established itself as the automobile brand best able to convey the spirit felt within the circuits, and to share the innate sports values and desire to excel which are part and parcel of the Scorpion's DNA and of the star two-wheel riders.

For Abarth, this marks a return in style on a Yamaha bike. In 2007, the official Yamaha YZR-M1 of Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards appeared on the starting grid of the Australian GP in Phillip Island sporting a special Scorpion. The activity celebrated Abarth's return to the world of two wheels where it had begun: it was, in fact, 1928, when a very young Carlo Abarth achieved his first sports successes in the saddle of a motorbike whereas, the following year, he built his first personalised motorbike with the Scorpion logo.

Fiat 500X, the main focus of a new and exclusive live Dynamo performance

  • Tonight, a magical evening in London, showcasing an exclusive live performance from Dynamo in front of 1,000 invited guests
  • The new Fiat crossover and the world famous magician will be on the stage inside the evocative Copper Box Arena at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
  • This extraordinary performance marks the end of the "The Power of X" tour, which brought the 500X to the main squares of 74 European cities and to 602 exclusive premieres at Fiat dealerships.

Tonight, the city of London will host an extraordinary event with the focus on Fiat 500X and Dynamo, the world famous magician who the Fiat brand has teamed up with during the pre-launch phase of its new crossover. A suggestive location has been selected for this exciting performance: the multifunctional Copper Box Arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, located to the east of the British capital.

This consolidates the partnership between the English magician and the new Fiat model, which started with the production of the first magic experience in a virtual reality. The high-quality video produced by Framestore has been offered to the guests of the European "The Power of X"  tour who, with a specific VR, were able to experience an extraordinary interactive trip together with Dynamo and the 500X. Today the performance in London marks the beginning of a new phase for the magician after the success of his TV program "Magician Impossible" which had more than 250 million viewers in 180 countries from 2011 to 2014.

The last stop of the European "The Power of X" tour for the London exhibition was the Copper Box Arena which was fitted out with personalised designs inspired by the "X" concept as the exposition of some example of the Fiat model, whereas a never-before seen mix of magic and technology was created inside. In fact, without relying on the help of special scenography, the English magician will go onto an empty stage to give life to a performance that he has been preparing for three years. Now the moment has arrived and Dynamo, together with the new 500X, is ready to surprise the 1,000 guests invited to this unique and exclusive event. All characterised by the "X", an antique and magical symbol that unites the art of Dynamo and the new Fiat crossover.

The "X" represents change and transformation, but at the same time it also represents balance or the crossroads between opposite entities, such as the new Fiat mode itself expresses the "transversality" of a product that finds its ideal positioning at the intersection between various automotive segments, each consisting of both young and mature drivers, lovers of beauty and attentive to character, but all with the same desire to enjoy a fulfilling driving experience and express their own personality with a distinctive style. Today, there is a clear and exhaustive response for them all: Fiat 500X.

This exciting evening in London will end with an exclusive party that includes the musical performances of Gorgon City, the pair of London producers Matt and Kye who have become one of the spearheads in the European clubbing panorama.

This London event marks the end of the "The Power of X" tour, which brought the new 500X to the main squares of 74 European cities and to 602 exclusive premieres at Fiat dealerships across the entire continent. Thanks to these initiatives, the public has learned about this new vehicle before it will début in the showrooms, which is taking place during this period of time in Italy and then will roll out subsequently in the other countries.

Model overview

Presented today to the international press, the Nuovo Doblò Cargo, fourth generation of the Fiat Professional model, now more functional, with more performance and more value. These are the guidelines that allowed Fiat Professional to design a vehicle at the top of its class in terms of performance, functional characteristics, load capacity, productivity, fuel economy and low running costs.

On the heels of the world début at the 2014 Hanover Motor Show, the Nuovo Doblò Cargo is now available to the wider public with a completely updated interior and exterior design reflecting classic car-like specifications. To get an idea, take a look at the ultra-modern distinctive front end, the bigger front grille and the many new components (bumpers, bonnet, headlights and tail-light clusters).

A comprehensive update also for the passenger compartment, with new dashboard, fabrics, steering wheel, instrument panel graphics and door panels. Likewise, the functionality-driven configuration is visible in a series of specific ergonomic solutions, from the multifunction front bench seat for driver and two passengers, the quieter interior, the new infotainment and navigation sytems and the gateway device. Also, as in the previous generation the Nuovo Doblò Cargo's load capacity and volume are both at the top of the category.

The second aim in developing the new Fiat Professional vehicle was performance, as evident from the improved torque response during city driving (up to 40%). In addition, the Nuovo Doblò Cargo ensures the best handling and driving comfort in its class, thanks especially to the Bi-link independent rear suspension (exclusive contents for the segment). The range also extends to include the new "EcoJet" version - equipped with the 90 hp Multijet II 1.3 or 105 hp Multijet II 1.6 - which combines reduced running costs and low fuel consumption (improvement of up to 15%).

The major functional and performance evolution combined with development initiatives aimed at reducing the total cost of ownership (including all costs from purchase to sale) make the Nuovo Doblò Cargo reliable, distinctive and more valuable for Fiat Professional customers. The entire package is sweetened by the comprehensive range of services and accessories created in collaboration with Mopar, in addition to the affordable financing solutions developed by FCA Bank.

Depending on the market the range is composed of 4 bodies (Cargo, Combi, WorkUp and Load platform), 2 roof heights and 2 wheelbases. Power is provided by a choice of six turbodiesel engines - MultiJet II 1.3 (75 and 90 hp), Multijet II 1.6 (100 and 105 hp), 90 hp Multijet II 1.6 with robotised gearbox and 135 hp Multijet 2.0 - plus three petrol engines: 95 hp 1.4, 120 hp TurboJet 1.4 and 120 hp TurboJet 1.4 bi-fuel (petrol/natural gas). The offering is the broadest in the segment, with versions and solutions from vans to special vehicles and versions converted for specific applications.

Scion of a winning model (Doblò has been chosen by more than 1.4 million customers since 2000), the Nuovo Doblò Cargo aims to consolidate its leadership in this market sector, which accounts for 25% of all light commercial vehicles in Europe.

Sold in more than 80 countries worldwide, including North America in the form of the Promaster City in the RAM range, the Nuovo Doblò Cargo becomes a "global" vehicle - just like the Nuovo Ducato - that's destined to bolster FCA's growth in the light commercial vehicles sector.

Like the previous generations, the Nuovo Doblò Cargo is manufactured in Turkey in the Tofaş plant in Bursa, one of the best automotive industrial sites in the world, as confirmed by the award of a World Class Manufacturing gold medal.

More functions, more performance and more value: Nuovo Doblò Cargo is "the better way of working".

Alfa Romeo and Fiat at the “Bremen Classic Motorshow”

The classic car show will open in Bremen, Germany on 6 February. Starring at the event as examples of the very best Italian design are four beautiful coupé models: the Alfa Romeo 2000 Sportiva, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale and the Fiat 8V.

The "Bremen Classic Motorshow", from 6 to 8 February, will be opening the 2015 classic car show season. Visitors to pavilion 5 may admire the special "Eleganza italiana" line-up starring a selection of prized Alfa Romeo and Fiat models, four of which from the museum collections of the two brands.

In particular, the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese (Milan) will be sending three sporty coupé models to the Bremen Classic Motorshow, like the exclusive 2000 Sportiva (1954) designed by "Nuccio" Bertone, of which only two were made, and the futuristic Giulia Sprint Speciale (1963). Focus will also be on the Giulietta SZ (1960) made by Zagato, the coachbuilder famous for his remarkably light-weight bodies: the rarest body variant, the one with the short Kamm tail created to optimise aerodynamics, will be on show in Bremen.

The spotlights will also be trained on an exclusive model owned by the Centro Storico Fiat in Turin, namely the only example of the 8V with fibreglass bodywork. The concept presented at the 1954 Turin Motor Show demonstrated the experience gained by the Fiat's "Carrozzerie Speciali" shop using this material, which was innovative for the time and had immediate benefits on the car's weight, and ultimately on its performance.

Alfa Romeo 2000 Sportiva (1954)

Franco Scaglione, who would go on to become a world-famous designer, considered the Alfa Romeo 2000 Sportiva that he had worked on for Bertone as his best result. Nearly at the same time as he was shocking everyone with the BAT concept cars built upon Alfa Romeo 1900 chassis, Scaglione was asked to design a Gran Turismo racing model fitting the engine of the 1900.

The designer presented two body types, the two-seater coupé (later named 2000 Sportiva) and a convertible version. Weighing little more than 900 kilograms when empty and with a short wheelbase, the 2000 Sportiva was very agile and easy to handle. The main structure consisted of a tubular chassis. The original 1900 engine was tuned and fitted with hemispherical combustion chambers. It delivered a power of 138 HP and propelled the coupé at a top speed of 220 km/h.

The rear suspension featured a sophisticated, innovative De Dion tube solution with a modern five-speed gearbox.

Only two Alfa Romeo 2000 Sportiva Coupé models were made: this one with metallised grey paintwork owned by the Alfa Romeo Museum and another one with red paintwork, which belongs to a collector.

It is worth mentioning that Scaglione would later design the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint and the legendary Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ "coda tronca" (1960)

The 1960 "Giulietta SZ" was made by Carrozzeria Zagato, time-honoured partner of Alfa Romeo, to allow gentleman drivers to race in the "1.3 litre Gran Turismo" category. The SZ was built on the chassis of the earlier "Sprint Speciale".

One of the peculiarities of the "SZ" is unquestionably its very light weight (740 kilograms for the second series) which together with an efficient aerodynamic profile allowed the car to reach a speed of 200 km/h, remarkable for a 1300 cc naturally aspirated engine.

The second series characterised by a Kamm tail delivers even better aerodynamic results and fits disc brakes.

Two hundred and ten models of the Giulietta SZ, counting both series, were made, of which 30 with Kamm tail.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale (1963)

The "Giulietta Sprint Speciale", better known as the "SS", was launched together with the "Giulietta T.I." in 1957. With strikingly futuristic looks, the SS has a twin cam 1.3 litre engine delivering 100 HP and could reach a speed of 190 km/h, establishing a new record in the 1.3 litre category.

The Giulietta Sprint Speciale body made by Bertone and designed by Scaglione is reminiscent of the "flying saucer" style of the 1952 "Disco Volante", and one of its most significant features is precisely its aerodynamics and their positive effect on performance. When the sporty, innovative, revolutionary Alfa Romeo "Giulia T.I." saloon was introduced in 1962, its 1600 engine was extended to the other models in the range, and the Giulietta SS thus became known as the "Giulia Sprint Speciale". Performance with the 1.6 litre engine was noting short of astonishing: the car reached 200 km/h.

Fiat 8V (1954)

The 8V coupé was the result of Fiat's plan to conquer market shares in the luxury car segment. Of course, an awe-inspiring engine, like an eight cylinder, was needed to achieve this objective. Technical director Dante Giacosa, who would be on the Fiat 500 designer team a few years later, picked a brand-new engine with four cylinders arranged at a 70 degree angle on a shared crankcase: the V-eight was ready. The coupé was perfect for the two litre category which was a popular racing choice in Italy at the beginning of the 1950s and according to Vittorio Valletta would appeal to the North American public.

The 8V introduced in 1952 was the first Fiat with independent suspension. Special bodies, which are perfect interpretations of the "Fiat-8V" theme, were made by the famous coachbuilders Zagato, Vignale, Siata and Ghia, in addition to the models crafted at the plant and designed by interior stylist Fabio Luigi Rapi.

  • An international contest will be held from 16 February to 18 March to create a livery for the supercar patrolling the Superbike World Championship circuits.
  • The initiative is addressed to students from top design faculties in Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, the UK, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium.

In collaboration with the Superbike World Championship (SBK), Alfa Romeo announces a major international competition aimed at the top students from design faculties and institutions around the world, giving them the opportunity to see their artwork taking to the track with the Alfa Romeo 4C, the official safety car at the famous motorcycle championship.

For several years the Alfa Romeo 4C has been seen on the circuits in a series of new and appealing liveries, and this year the marque has decided to invite design students to unleash their creative energy, offering them a world stage on which to display their work.

The best of the three liveries received will each be used for three SBK weekend events, where they can be admired by bike racing fans in the paddocks and on the stands and also by television viewers at home, thanks to live coverage of the races.

The initiative is addressed to design faculties and institutions in Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, the UK, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium. Participating institutions include: IED (Italy and Spain), Elisava (Spain), Royal College of Arts (UK), Marangoni (France, UK, Italy, and China) and Delf (Netherlands).

From 16 February to 18 March visitors to the Alfa Romeo website will be able to access a dedicated area where they can download the photo of the Alfa Romeo 4C so they can apply all their creativity and originality to design their own livery. Once the artwork has been completed a maximum of 3 drawings per entrant can be submitted online.

During this period, visitors to both the Alfa Romeo website and the brand's social network channels (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) will be able to view the liveries used in the past for the 4C safety car on the various different circuits and the Alfa Romeo Style Centre will be on hand with suggestions to assist those who wish to submit an entry for the competition.

From the 19th March a panel of experts that will include designers and managers of the Alfa Romeo brand and the FCA Style Centre will assess the work received and choose the best 3 entries.

Opportunities for the winners don't end with creating their livery and seeing it presented in public on the race circuits. They'll also have the chance to be offered an internship at the Alfa Romeo Style Centre - FCA Design Department in Turin so they can explore the many facets of the world of auto design and styling.

Alfa Romeo has been involved in the Superbike World Championship as top sponsor and with the official safety car since 2007, because it shares the same values of extreme competitiveness, technology and safety.

Since 2013 the compact Alfa Romeo 4C supercar has been flaunting its good looks on world circuits as the official safety car - and not just at the Superbike World Championship - the Alfa Romeo 4C also takes to the track for the warm up lap and before each race in the competitions held as part of the SBK, namely the Superstock 600 European Championship, the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup and the Supersport World Championship.

The partnership confirms the affinity between the two brands in their different worlds: if the motorcycles competing in the Superbike World Championship are normal production machines that deliver exceptional levels of performance in a race setting, Alfa Romeo sports cars, perfectly at home on the city streets, can likewise deliver the sheer emotion and impressive performance encapsulated in the sporting spirit of the marque.

The Geneva Motor Show is the stage chosen to display the show car created by Fiat and Garage Italia Customs, Lapo Elkann's latest customisation project.

Fiat 500X "Black Tie", an alluring show car based on Fiat's new crossover, explores a new dimension of the 500, in which style, substance and quintessential Italian design characterise a comfortable, high-performance car which is always connected to the world: this is the X side of beauty, this is the spirit of Fiat 500X.

The car was customised by the experts of Garage Italia Customs, Lapo Elkann's latest project dedicated to auto enthusiasts who want to own a unique product. Coming from an array of different creative backgrounds, all professionals on the team are automobile craftsmen who work entirely by hand. The underlying idea of the show car is to provide an unlimited choice of style solutions to make distinctively tailored custom products capable of perfectly expressing the customer's expectations and personality.

On the outside, Fiat 500X "Black Tie" sports an innovative "wrap-paint" job which combines chrome-plated film and traditional paint. The end result is an elegant herringbone effect set off by varnished solid wood roof rails and handles.

The exclusive treatment is picked up inside by clever one-of-a-kind crafted details, like the seamless black denim roof and upper pillar linings. Other superb touches are the cashmere sun visors with black leather edging and the flawless matte black painted handles and ceiling light. The lower pillar lining, kick plate and non-slip floor mats of the front and rear doors are made of black Alcantara with dark stitching.

The seats are covered with denim on the outside and British-style cashmere on the inside with black leather edging and ice-colour stitching. The cashmere pattern on the seats carries over the herringbone effect of the exterior to convey a uniform style throughout.

The entire dashboard, panel structure and tunnel are also covered in black Alcantara, while the panel inserts are half cashmere and half denim with ice-colour stitching. The inner door moulding, central console, dashboard accents and the entire luggage cover panel are made of solid wood and nod to the style suggested on the outside.

The new TechPro2 website is online, starting today. The project was a result of the collaboration between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and CNH Industrial with Salesian institutions. Its goal: to enable students from around the world (wishing to take up a study course in the automotive and commercial vehicle industry) to easily find all relevant information about the initiative as well as to support the industry stakeholders looking for new qualified personnel.

TechPro2 is the training project created in 2008 thanks to the collaboration between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and CNH Industrial together with Salesian institutions. The program is intended for young people and its goal is to find, train and place highly qualified personnel in the automotive and commercial vehicles sector, primarily within the authorized FCA and CNH Industrial networks. Also thanks to the contribution of the Salesians of Don Bosco, the project has grown over the years to reach the current 55 training centres around the world, with more than 9,300 students and more than 240 thousand hours of professional training in eight different languages.

The new website - www.techpro2.com - has a new look, innovative contents and updated features so that students, dealers and workshops can find what they need in a simple and efficient manner, from new employment opportunities to qualified personnel for their business.

In addition to obtaining all relevant information about the project and its progress in the different areas of the world where it has been launched, by browsing the website, students can also - with a few clicks - directly contact the schools for detailed information on the training courses.

The industry stakeholders (such as workshops and dealers) looking for new and qualified personnel, can get in touch with the schools for internship start-ups or new career paths for students who have completed the training.

Another important innovation of the website is that students and industry stakeholders can fill out an online form, which automatically sends out a message both to the schools concerned and to the respective project managers of FCA and CNH Industrial. In this way, the project progress is constantly monitored and the TechPro2 program can meet its two objectives: to guide young people from underprivileged social backgrounds that are searching for concrete career opportunities in the world of employment as well as to address the need of skilled professionals for dealerships and authorized workshops of the various FCA and CNH Industrial brands.

In 2013, 885 students in Italy completed an internship at one of the TechPro2 network schools belonging to FCA and CNH Industrial. The course includes apprenticeship and internships at the network workshops to help the young people develop sound technical and professional skills and at the same time obtain valuable field experience. In Italy, in 2013, 46 percent of the trainees found employment thanks to TechPro2 .

  • Presented in world preview at the Geneva Motor Show, the new 500 Vintage '57 will be revealed today at the Centro Storico Fiat in Turin where tradition is alive, passed on and renewed.
  • The art nouveau style building located in via Chiabrera has hosted a permanent exhibition illustrating the establishment and technological, social and economic development of Fiat since 1963.
  • Also on show a very large collection of cars, memorabilia, models, advertising posters and a huge archive: over 5,000 meters of paper documents, 300,000 technical drawings, 18,000 posters, 1,300 sketches, 5,000 books and magazines on automotive and industrial history, 6 million pictures and 200 hours of historical films.
  • Paying homage to the iconic Fiat introduced in Turin on 4 July 1957, the 500 Vintage '57 special series has a retro look which picks up some of the key features of its classic precursor, like the pastel blue body - now in combination with white roof, spoiler, aerial and mirrors - and the tobacco or alternatively Brown Terra di Siena Poltrona Frau leather upholstery. The car is embellished by vintage style Fiat badges on the outside and on the steering wheel, a white dashboard fascia and 16' alloy white and chrome-plated rims which are reminiscent of the tyres of yesteryear.
  • 1957: the 'great little car' and emblem of mass motorisation, of which nearly 3.9 million would be sold and which would become firmly established in collective imagination, is introduced.
  • 2007: fifty years later, Fiat starts driving into the future with the new 500. A new success with deep roots and an evolved answer to new mobility needs.

The 500 Vintage '57, the new special series which is a homage to the 1957 Italian icon, will be introduced to the press today in Turin at the historical Centro Storico Fiat in via Chiabrera 20. After the world preview at the Geneva Motor Show, Fiat has picked the Centro Storico to reveal the new 500 Vintage '57 to the international press.

The location picked for launching the car is perfect because since 1963 the historical building has housed a permanent exhibition which illustrates the establishment and the technological, social and economic development of Fiat by presenting all aspects of Fiat's history through its huge document archives. Several exhibits are dedicated to the iconic 500, like the 1950s Mirafiori assembly line and the office of Dante Giacosa, the engineer who created the Nuova 500 in 1957.

Available in saloon configuration only, the new Vintage '57 special series has a vintage appeal which picks up some particularities of its predecessor, like the pastel blue paint, now combined with white roof and spoiler, and the tobacco - or alternatively Brown Terra di Siena - colour Frau leather upholstery. The car is embellished by vintage style Fiat badges on the outside and on the steering wheel, a white dashboard fascia and 16' alloy white and chrome-plated rims which are reminiscent of the tyres of yesteryear.

Marketed throughout Europe and available in 12 body colours, the new 500 Vintage '57 will be available with various engines and different standard and optional equipment to satisfy the needs of customers in each country. Customers in the EMEA area can choose the 1.2 litre 69 hp, 0.9 Twin Air 65 hp, 0.9 Twin Air 85 hp or the 0.9 Twin Air 105 hp petrol engines, or alternatively the 1.3 Multijet 95 hp diesel.

Characterised by complete standard equipment, the new special series complements the Fiat 500 2015 line-up, which today includes two configurations (saloon and convertible), four trim levels (Pop, Lounge, S and Vintage '57), two transmissions (manual or Dualogic) and six engine versions (the petrol/LPG 1.2 litre 69 hp EasyPower in addition to the engines available for the Vintage '57).

The new Fiat 500 Vintage '57 is the proper tribute to the legendary 'Cinquino', as the 500 was playfully dubbed, which from 1957 to 1975 contributed to motorise a rapidly evolving country becoming a cult model of which some 3.9 million were sold. The car was essential, even spartan, but it was the first to make the privilege of mobility affordable in less than three metres of length. The 1957 500 was equipped with a fuel-efficient 479 cm3 13 hp two-cylinder engine which touched a top speed of 85 km/h. Now, that was remarkable for its day.

During the eighteen years it was manufactured, the 500 benefited from minor technical adjustments and new equipment but never lost its interclass particularity. The last 500 - the 'R' model, of which 340,000 were made - was launched in 1972, when its heir, the 126, was launched. The model was still successful although the times were changing. But that was not the end.

Fifty years after the first model, in 2007 Fiat started driving into the future with a new way of interpreting the concept of car. The new Fiat 500, the manifest of the 'new Fiat', was introduced. The model fully expressed Fiat's most authentic tradition, that is to make technology and equipment available to all for the first time in a car in this segment. In brief, the 1957 500 invented a segment and the 2007 500 transformed it and broke many new records.

For the first time, the model had an engine line-up which complied with strictest environmental and safety parameters even before they were to become mandatory. Euro 5 ready from the start, the 500 was the first compact - it was only 3.5 metres long - to be awarded five EuroNCAP stars and was the first to fit seven air bag as standard equipment and to make ESP available on the entire range. The car's robust structure, active and passive safety and full equipment package did not negatively impact price: 'safety first' was a tough decision which confirmed Fiat's intention to continue to lead in that area too.

500 soon revealed itself as a very successful breeding ground for new ideas: it was the first to be equipped with Twin Air two-cylinder engines, the first Fiat model to sport its own name as logo - a brand in the brand - and was the first in its class to have a very extensive array of equipment and customisation possibilities from the very start.

Made since 2007 in Poland and since 2010 also in Toluca (Mexico), the Fiat 500 is sold in over 100 countries worldwide today and marked Fiat's comeback to the United States. It is a truly global model of which over 1.5 million have already been registered. One of the secrets of its success is certainly the capacity of evolving and being interpreted in new ways - like the 500 Abarth (2008) and the exclusive 500 'Ron Arad Edition', which is the most recent launched in 2014 - and also of exploring new territories, leading to the creation of a family of likeable, affordable cars for a wide range of uses to choose from - like the 500L (2012), the 500L Trekking, the 500L Living (2013) and the new 500X (2014).

Today the torch is being passed to the 500 Vintage '57 special series which is a proper homage to 1957 icon and confirms the undisputed leadership of Fiat in this segment.

After the world preview at the recent Geneva Motor Show, Fiat has picked the Centro Storico to reveal the new 500 Vintage '57 to the international press. The new special series pays homage to the 1957 Italian icon and the location chosen for the launch event could not be more appropriate. Since 1963 the historical building has housed a permanent exhibition which illustrates the establishment and the technological, social and economic development of Fiat by presenting all aspects of Fiat's history through its huge document archives.

The industrial site on Val di Sangro crossed the finishing line with five million vehicles manufactured. The vehicle that helped reach the record is the new Ducato People Transport 130 Multijet II. This reinforces the historical bond between the best seller Fiat Professional - 34 years of life, five generations and more than 2.6 million units sold - and the largest European factory manufacturing medium to large vans.

Vehicle number 5,000,000 came out of Sevel's (European Light Vehicle Company) production lines. It is a Fiat Ducato People Transport (short wheel base and low roof), with white livery and equipped with the brilliant 2.3 Multijet II 130 HP.

Acquired by an Italian client for passenger transportation, internally, the vehicle is characterized by a modern techno dashboard that combines soft touch materials with shiny black surfaces and rich chrome plating. The centre console integrates the exclusive UConnect radio system with 5" colour touch screen and CD/MP3 player, with Bluetooth technology, steering wheel commands and rear view camera. In addition, the interior comfort is guaranteed by the various seat adjustment options, both for driver and passengers, and by the efficient front and rear manual climate control system. Finally, safety is also guaranteed by the latest generation electronic stability control and by the "full size" 120 litres airbag for maximum passenger safety.

Undoubtedly, the winning hand of Ducato People Transport is its reliable 130 HP turbo diesel Multijet II engine, which ensures excellent performance, agility in urban traffic and brilliance in long distance drives. Moreover, the high torque at low rpm (320 Nm at 1,800 rpm) allows the vehicle to "spring up" with ease, even with heavy loads. The engine thus proves to be the "best in class" in its category, the perfect balance between power, torque, by far the best in fuel consumption and autonomy compared to its competitors.

This record-breaking model confirms the high versatility of the best seller Fiat Professional, which, for the last 34 years, with its 5 generations, has been the best travel and work companion for the over 2.6 million clients who have chosen it since 1981. Not to mention that more than 500,000 families still travel today with a Fiat Ducato-based camper, which has been the absolute leader in the sector for years and a benchmark in its class. Furthermore, in 2014, this model won the title of best-selling vehicle of its segment in Europe.

Among this model's many strong points, its powerful and efficient engines as well as numerous high-tech contents, such as the last generation security and driver assistance systems and the new Infotainment system, are particularly worth mentioning. In addition, thanks to certain targeted technical interventions, the New Ducato's already excellent durability and strength qualities have been improved with a consequent increase of its residual value. All of that, combined with low operating costs and reduced spare parts prices, allows the new Fiat Professional vehicle to offer among the lowest maintenance and repair costs in this category, a key element contributing to improve the "Total Cost of Ownership".

The New Ducato offer provides a very important solution in ecological terms as well by expanding the range with the 140 Natural Power version, which combines methane with an efficient 136 HP 3-litre turbo engine (Euro 6). This guarantees performance, reliability and durability in line with the diesel versions, along with low fuel consumptions and, above all, low emissions. Compared to the previous generation, the Ducato Natural Power family expands with the introduction of the new Combi versions, perfect for the combined transportation of goods and passengers, and People Transport, the shuttle that comfortably accommodates up to 9 people and their luggage. These models are accompanied by the freight transportation versions, available as panelled and windowed vans, and versions intended for all sorts of specific trims, such as platform cabs.

In addition, the New Ducato offers the widest range of front-wheel drive vehicles on the market: in fact, the different combinations of body solutions, engine and mechanics can offer up to about 10,000 variations for commercial vehicles, passenger transportation and trim bases. In particular, within the range of vans, you can choose from eight different capacity levels, ranging from 8 to 17 m³ and they offer the highest efficiency in their class. Furthermore, the New Ducato is available in 4 variations in terms of length and 3 in height for vans, and 6 different lengths for cabs and chassis cowls.

The record-breaking factory

The Sevel industrial site is the largest European factory for the manufacturing of light commercial vehicles. The agreement that established the joint venture partnership between FCA and PSA-Peugeot Citroën was signed in 1978. The factory began working in 1981, manufacturing 350 vehicles per day. Subsequently, the site was expanded in order to support the production of a wider product range, up until reaching its current capacity of over 1,000 vehicles per day. Besides the New Fiat Ducato, two similar models are also manufactured for the PSA partner.

The factory is located between the municipalities of Atessa and Paglieta, in the Chieti province, and occupies an area of more than one million and 200 thousand square metres (120 hectares), 344,000 of which are covered (34 hectares), and it is equipped for the entire production cycle: bodywork, painting and assembly.

Currently, the factory employs 6,070 people (about 92% of whom reside in Abruzzo); 350 articulated trucks with materials come through its gates every day and 200 car carriers and 4 trains with assembled vehicles come out. And there is more: the Body shop manufactures about 300 different types of bodywork, Painting uses 208 colours and Assembly manufactures almost 10,000 versions and over 150 options. To confirm the car's appreciation by the market, in its 25 years of life, the factory has seen a steady growth of production, employment and investments. What's more, the system complies with the highest quality and environmental standards: the quality system has been ISO 9001 certified, while the environmental management system has achieved the ISO 14001 certification. And, since 2013, it is also certified in terms of energy management (ISO 50001).

The new painting system is particularly interesting, as, both in terms of technology and respect for the environment, it is among the most advanced systems in Europe (as demonstrated by the application of water-based enamel). Inside the factory - about 330 metres long and 60 metres wide - there are about 150 people working per shift, and 32 robots that apply sealant and enamel. And then, there are the electroplating baths and the drying and firing furnaces. Fully automated. Employees are responsible only for monitoring the process and checking the result. The preparation of the surfaces to paint is also partially automated: it is performed by rollers made of feathers of anti-static material, particularly suitable because they don't electrify during friction.

Unlike cars, the bodies of commercial vehicles are painted on the inside as well, because the surfaces of the "cargo" versions are visible. This is why, for each model, about 65 square metres of sheet must be covered: this requires 10 kg of enamel and 137 metres of sealant. 25 million metres of sealant are applied in one year - about 4 times the Earth's radius.

  • From 15 to 19 of April Alfa Romeo will be present at the motor show with vintage models and some of its current production as a representation of that thread that for over a century has inspired the cars of the Italian manufacturer.
  • They belong to the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum: the only existing model in the world of the 1900 Sport Spider (1954) and the fascinating 1300 Sprint (1964, the last of the Giulietta Sprint series).
  • The new Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, the supercar that combines the pleasure of "open air" driving with the sports feel of the award winning 4C Coupé will be on show in Germany for the first time.
  • Also on show in Essen will be the Giulietta Sprint, as a tribute to the 1954 icon, the compact Alfa Romeo sports car MiTo and the manufacturer's modern icon: the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupé.

From 15 to 19 April the "Techno Classica 2015" will being taking place in Essen, a trade show given over to collector vehicles and motorcycles that has become one of the most important of the world and is attended every years by around 200,000 visitors. Alfa Romeo will be taking part in the show with a very striking stand that enhances a true passion for cars, both of yesterday and today.

The star role will be for the new Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, on show here for the first time in Germany, flanked by a second sports car without a fixed roof: the fascinating Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider of 1954, a single model developed over 60 years ago and designed for the racetrack.

At "Techno Classica 2015" the 1300 Sprint of 1964 will also be on parade, the last of the Giulietta Sprint series, which boasts a long list of successful races on international circuits. Next to the magnificent historic coupé, the audience will get a chance to admire the current model thanks to which the celebrated car make now lives on in the XXI century.

The exhibition is completed by two more current models: the compact Alfa Romeo MiTo sports car and the award winning Alfa Romeo 4C, the car maker's modern icon that expresses the essence of sports driving by combining breath-taking style with excellent performance.

Six amazing vehicles, each with its own history to tell but all linked by the same automotive conception: in fact, for over a century, Alfa Romeo models have been going beyond the concept of "means of transport" and are instead included in the "true emotion" category. After all, only the ones with a long history behind them can face the challenges of the future with determination and creativity.

The limelight is on the 1900 Spider Sport (1954), one of the most exclusive vehicles in the Alfa Romeo Museum: it is in fact the only existing and perfectly functioning model. Built around the mechanical set up of the "1900", its four cylinder (dry sumped) twin cam engine has been enhanced to provide 138 HP. The "Sport Spider" has a "modern car" handling feel to it, with high level performance (220 km/hr top speed) and a weight of 890 kg, along with an architecture that is top notch, starting with the De Dion tube and the 5 speed gearbox. The streamlined and aerodynamic body shape we owe to Bertone: the aggressive nose, the small windscreen and the sobriety of its lines are its most striking aesthetic features.

A few words also need spending on the 1300 Sprint, the last of the Giulietta Sprint series that was launched in 1954 at the Turin Motor Show. The "Sprint" marks the entry of the Snake symbol into the coupé market segment, especially with its "1300" engine. The Giulietta soon became a resounding success: it set new technical and performance standards that stood her head and shoulders above its competitors.

The engine is a 1300 cc. four cylinder twin can (a solution that imported directly from the maker's racing experience) made entirely out of aluminium (unusual for an engine with such large production numbers) that propels the vehicle at up to around 170 km/hr, a startling speed for the time.

The design is signed by Bertone, but was actually the work of Franco Scaglione, who later designed the Giulietta Sprint Speciale and, in the second half of the Sixties, the prestigious 33 Stradale. The Giulietta Sprint became an icon of Italian style: elegant, streamlined, unquestionably an Alfa Romeo.

The Giulietta Sprint is "Italy's fiancée", one of the first vehicles with a girl's name, it won over the hearts of its audience, particular among the upper middle classes, that saw in the Sprint the symbol of the so called Italian "economic boom".

The Spring, in its "Veloce" version (80 hp, 180 km/hr) even won its class in the Mille Miglia race of 1956, ranking 11th overall, in front of cars "twice its size", and went on to win countless races both on track and road in all corners of the world.

Young talent Scalvini is the winner of the 2nd Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe and National Trophy AciSport Abarth Selenia Italy’s race at Monza circuit

  • The Italian frontrunner headed under the checkered flag countryman Campani and Finnish Pajuranta
  • In the two championships Scalvini precedes Campani and Swedish Lilja
  • Among the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse Swedish triumph with Appelqvist and Darbom on the top
  • Upcoming events: at Vallelunga race track (near Rome) in May and with the National Trophy AciSport Abarth Selenia Italy, and at Mugello Circuit (Tuscany, Italy), with the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe (July)

Young Italian driver Eric Scalvini (Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evolution) won the first round's second race of the Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe and the National Trophy AciSport Abarth Selenia Italy, held at Monza. Under the checkered flag Eric precedes countryman Maurizio Campani and Finnish frontrunner Juuso Pajuranta. With this success Scalvini takes the lead of the overall standings in both Abarth championships, in which precedes Campani and Swedish Lilja, winner of the first race yesterday (Saturday 18th).

The second race saw then on the podium two 20-years-old-racers like Scalvini and Pajuranta. The Finn drove for the first time his Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evolution, after he imposed last year in the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse category.

The reversal of the grid based on the top-8 drivers in the Race 1 made even more spectacular the second event of the Monza's weekend. "Fischerman" started in pole position, flanked by Scalvini, but the latter took the lead after the first chicane. Immediately after, with the spin of "Gioga" at the "variante Roggia" the safety car came in and during two consecutive laps.

It resumed on lap three with "Fischerman" that left his second position to Buffoli, Lilja, Campani and Pajuranta. In the fourth round Lilja surpassed Buffoli and started hunting Scalvini until lap 5, when he overtook the Italian driver, and becoming the current leader of the race.

Lilja's leadership didn't last long, as the Swede went into a spin at "Variante Ascari", causing the involvement of the safety car, again. With five drivers grouped in a few tenths of second, the final round has been decisive. Buffoli went into a spin at the first chicane and Scalvini barely resisted to the attacks of Campani and Pajuranta, which finished in the order.

Among the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse Swedish Appelqvist preceded compatriot Darbom and Italian Arrigosi while Cimarelli was forced to retire in the early stages of the race.

The next round of the National Trophy AciSport Abarth Selenia Italy takes place on Sunday, May 3rd, at the Vallelunga Circuit (near Rome). The Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europe resumes instead on Sunday, July 12th, at the Mugello Circuit in Tuscany.

Monza Race 2: 1. Eric Scalvini 11 laps in 27'33"673, speed average 157,7 km/h; 2. Maurizio Campani +0"290; 3. Jusso Pajuranta +0"594; 4. Cosimo Barberini +4"300; 5. Jorge Rodriguez +4"860; 6. Luca Anselmi +5"574; 7. Manuel Buffoli +7.100; 8.Michele Monetti +12"627; 9."Fisherman" +21"284; 10. Robin Appelqvist (500 Assetto Corse) +22.133. Best lap Manuel Buffoli in 2'11"524 average 158.6 km/h.

Trofeo Abarth Selenia Europa: 1. Scalvini 32; 2. M. Campani 30; 3. Lilja 25; 4. Buffoli e Anselmi 24; 6. Pajuranta 23; 7. Barberini 22; 8. Rodrigues 10; 9. "Fischerman" 6; 10. Monetti 5.

Trofeo Nazionale Acisport Abarth Selenia Italia: 1. Scalvini 32; 2. M. Campani 30; 3. Lilja 25; 4. Buffoli e Anselmi 24; 6. Pajuranta 23; 7. Barberini 22; 8. Rodrigues 10; 9. "Fischerman" 6; 10. Monetti 5.

Abarth 500 Assetto Corse Europa e Italia: 1. Appelqvist 46; 2. Darbom 33; 3. Arrigosi 27; 4. Cimarelli 25; 5. Di Cosmo 22.

  • From today, Google Maps can be used to visit the FCA Melfi Plant, one of largest and most advanced in Europe, where Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade are made.

  • With Google Maps Business View technology, virtual visitors can discover how the stamping, body-in-white, painting and assembly shops work.

  • Over one billion Euros have been recently invested making this one of Europe's most innovative automotive factories. The highest production quality is achieved by implementing the technologies and best practices collected from all other FCA plants.

  • The plant was awarded a silver medal for World Class Manufacturing and today has its eyes set on the gold.

  • A nearly eight-thousand-strong workforce; five presses and two shearing machines; 860 robots in the body-in-white shop; fifty-four robots in the paint shop; 278 automatic screwing stations; and near four thousand workers in the assembly shop.

  • Over five thousand components are used to make the various versions of 500X. The factory works three shifts, 24 hours a day, to make near 500 units of the new Fiat crossover by combining four chassis types, twelve paint colours, five interiors, eight engines and 188 optional equipment packages.

From today, Google Maps Business View can be used to experience an exciting adventure and discover the FCA Melfi Plant on the inside directly on Google Maps. This virtual tour takes users into the plant and illustrates the key aspects of the entire production cycle of Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade, the most recent FCA models, which are intended for a very diverse clientele.

Accessible from the website fcamelfiplant.fiat.com, the interesting tour visits every corner of the FCA Melfi Plant, which is one of the most technologically advanced automotive factories in Europe, where over one million Euros were recently invested to kick off the production of the new vehicles. The technological expertise and the best practices of all the other FCA plants were implemented and lined up here to secure the very best possible quality from the very start.

No fewer than 3924 photographs were taken during a three-day photo shoot to make the experience as immersive as possible. There are 327 panoramic views, each of which made up of 12 high resolution photographs. Users can move about the Melfi plant exploring it in detail with the user-friendly dynamics of Google Street View, visiting the stamping, body-in-white, painting and assembly units. Again from the official Fiat website, visitors will find videos and pictures to learn more about each step of the manufacturing process to appreciate the technological innovation implemented at the plant and see how this reflects on the high quality of the products which are made here.

The plant has stamping, body-in-white, painting and assembly shops and employees nearly eight thousand workers; five presses and two shearing machines; 860 robots in the body-in-white shop; fifty-four robots in the paint shop; 278 automatic screwing stations; and near four thousand workers in the assembly shop. To describe the steps of this fine-tuned mechanism we need to start from the steel sheets used make the body and follow the future car through the paint shop to the assembly line where all the components are fitted. Over five thousand parts in total are needed to make the various versions of 500X. The factory works three shifts, 24 hours a day, to make near 500 units of the new Fiat crossover by combining four chassis types, twelve paint colours, five interiors, eight engines and 188 optional equipment packages.

Stretching over an area of approximately 1.9 million square metres, the plant was designed by architect Marco Visconti and built from 1991 to 1993 near San Nicola, at 18 kilometres from Melfi, in a district where there were no other industries at the time. Located on a major road connecting the Italian regions of Basilicata, Campania and Puglia, from where many of the factory workers commute, the factory starting production in October 1993. Over the past twenty years, the plant has made many different Fiat and Lancia models, including Fiat Punto (1994), Lancia Ypsilon (1995), new Ypsilon (2003), Grande Punto (2005) and Punto Evo (2009), totally nearly six million cars until March 2015. Today, it is home to the Fiat 500X, Fiat Grande Punto and Jeep Renegade.

On 18 June 2009, the Melfi plant was the first in Italy to be awarded the WCM (World Class Manufacturing) Silver Level certifying the outstanding organisation of the production cycle implemented there. Another interesting aspect that reasserts the special attention dedicated to the entire process is that there have been no accidents at the plant for the past three years. Together with safety, the second guideline is to seek maximum product and construction process quality at all times.

Everything focuses on the centrality of human resources, who are the real driving force of the plant. In these weeks, some 1500 new workers are joining the workforce to respond to the rising demand for Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade. Both models are exported to over 100 countries worldwide.

An interesting fact: a TV advertisement was broadcast on the night of 31 December 2014 in which Fiat wished a happy new year to all Italians inviting them to believe in growth and welcome the new year with new-found enthusiasm. Leaving these difficult times for the economy behind is not only desirable but also possible, particularly when Italy deploys the elements in which it has always excelled: creativity, redemption, search for beauty and substance.

On the notes of Lucio Dalla's "L'anno che verrà", the spot ended with the Melfi workers and the new 500X, two expressions of the same winning Italian spirit. Not by chance, Melfi is one of the most advanced plants in Europe, pride of FCA workers and the entire country, in particular of the under-industrialised south. On the other hand, the model explores a new way of being 500, in which elegant, evolved Italian style outfits the substance of a comfortable, high-performance car which is always connected to the world: this is the X side of beauty, this is the soul of Fiat 500X.

FCA Bank, A joint venture between FCA Italy S.p.A. (a company of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group) and CA Consumer Finance S.A. (a company of the Crédit Agricole Group), having become a holding company of an international banking group in January, turns 90 on 25th April.

A dedicated "90 years driving into the future" logo has been designed to celebrate the event, not only with reference to the past but also summarizing the dynamic and ever developing spirit of FCA Bank.

The slogan encapsulates in a few words the philosophy of this Company, capable of progressing over time, constantly improving innovation and flexibility, in order to promptly respond to changes that have occurred, over the years, in the various social and economic contexts.

The FCA Bank journey began in Turin on 25th April 1925, on the same day that, 20 years later, would become Italy's historic Liberation Day.

On 25th April, nine decades ago, S.A.V.A., Società Anonima Vendita Autoveicoli, was incorporated: the era of dedicated automotive financing had begun. Since that day, the dream of owning a car became a reality for many families.

Within a short period of time, the Company first entered the German market before expanding into France and in the following years, into many other markets as well: FCA Bank currently operates in 16 European countries.

With strength, determination and professionalism, FCA Bank constantly developed itself, right up to the time it reached a significant turning point in 2006, when Europe's first joint venture between a car manufacturer and a bank was established: Fiat Auto S.p.A. and Crédit Agricole Consumer Finance created Fiat Auto Financial Services, which took over from S.A.V.A. The Company's activities continued to be aimed at providing financial services to support the Fiat Group (later Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) sales in Europe. In 2009 Fiat Auto Financial Services changed name and became FGA Capital, consolidating its role on the international scene, and becoming an increasingly important player in the European automotive financing sector. In 2013 the agreement between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Credit Agricole was renewed until 2021.

14th January 2015 marked a further, crucial change: FGA Capital, after receiving it's banking license from the supervising authority, became a Bank and strengthened its structure, although it continues to preserve its automotive captive mission, focusing on the needs of those customers interested in buying or renting a car - "FCA Bank is the Bank dedicated to motorists, born to provide even more value to those who choose a car", as highlighted by the launch press campaign.

FCA Bank now enters a new, healthier future, ready for new challenges, through a range of even more diversified products and services adaptable to any specific requirement.

90 years of commitment. 90 years of competence in the financial services business. 90 years of passion for the automotive industry. 90 years which began on a distant 25th of April, deemed to become history: this is FCA Bank, a Company that's been looking to the future since 1925. Discover this fascinating history in the dedicated section of FCA Bank site created to celebrate the event (www.fcabankgroup.com).
