  1. The New Abarth 124 spider The model in brief Supercar engine and mechanics Design true to the Abarth DNA Active and passive safety Equipment: sportiness and comfort Officine Abarth: high technology and hand-crafted care FCA Bank for the new Abarth 124 spider Mopar for the new Abarth 124 spider The model in brief The new Abarth 124 spider aims at sweeping a new generation of enthusiasts off their feet with its performance and technical DNA. The model combines the authentic roadster experience packed with thrills, technology, safety with a touch of unmistakable Italian design. Performance DNA The new Abarth 124 spider guarantees all the thrills and fun that only a real spider can offer. Developed with the Abarth Racing team, the car perfectly embodies the leading values of the brand: performance, artisan craft, technical excellence. This is a car designed to put the smile back on the faces of those lucky enough to drive it. For outstanding dynamic performance, Abarth 124 spider fits a mechanical self-locking differential as standard equipment. The weight is concentrated between the axles and the engine is installed behind the front axle to guarantee optimal agility and superior driving feel. Sophisticated mechanics and the use of special materials have been used to contain the weight to just 1060 kilograms, which results in a weight-to-power ratio of 6.2 kg/HP, the best in its category. Furthermore, the optimal weight distribution guarantees excellent feedback and agility. The suspension of the 124 spider features high double wishbone suspension on the front and a five-arm multi-link on the rear. The set-up is calibrated specifically to increase stability on corners and for compression braking. Steering feedback is optimised by adopting a specific sports calibration of the power steering system. Under the bonnet is a powerful, ultra-reliable 1.4 litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with MultiAir technology. It delivers 170 HP (that is about 124 HP per litre) and 250 Nm of torque: it has a top speed of 232 km/h and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. What is more, the engine sound is a fundamental element of all Abarth cars, and standard equipment includes the Record Monza exhaust with dual mode system capable of modifying the path of the exhaust gas according to engine rpm and generating a satisfying, deep sound. The spider is available with a six-speed manual or an automatic Esseesse Sports Sequential gearbox. Supercar engine and mechanics Designed for thrills and performance, 124 spider has all the qualities needed to satisfy even the most difficult-to-please drivers. For exceptional dynamism, Abarth 124 spider fits a standard mechanical self-locking differential which secures drive and traction in the most critical situations and peerless dynamic performance. Perfect weight distribution and light-weight design Abarth 124 Spider creates a new benchmark in the sporty roadster segment and this is confirmed in numbers. Capitalising on the lessons learnt from the Abarth racing range, the obsession for lightness drove the brand to slim down every single unnecessary gram from the car. For instance, the model is fitted with an active bonnet system to comply with the severe pedestrian collision safety standards and has made it possible to avoid changes that would have increased the overall weight of the car and damaged its balancing. With sensors on the crossmembers and two small pyrotechnic loads positioned in the engine compartment, the system detects a collision against a pedestrian and deploys in a few milliseconds to create a safe space between bonnet and engine and thus attenuate the consequences of the impact. Supercar mechanics and suspension layout The suspension of the 124 spider features high double wishbone suspension on the front and a five-arm multi-link on the rear. The set-up is calibrated specifically to increase stability on corners and for compression braking. Steering feedback is optimised by adopting a specific sports calibration of the power steering system. The Abarth dynamic set-up means that rear-wheel traction can be fully exploited to achieve the best driving pleasure. Furthermore, the Abarth by Bilstein shock absorbers, the specifically calibrated springs and the oversized anti-roll bars ensure optimal handling and driving accuracy. The Brembo braking system, with four-piston fixed aluminium callipers on the front wheels, guarantees minimum braking distance and excellent overheating resistance even after prolonged and aggressive use, for always pleasant and safe pedal feeling. A powerful engine and sporty gearboxes for a peerless driving experience Abarth 124 spider fits a powerful, reliable four-cylinder 1.4 litre MultiAir turbo engine. The first is characterised by quick and accurate shifting with a short-stroke direct lever. The Esseesse Sports Sequential gearbox, on the other hand, is the result of careful tuning to exploit all the engine torque and conveys genuine racing sensations. Shifting is very fast using either the stick on the tunnel or the steering wheel paddles. Unadulterated driving feeling Abarth 124 spider fits state-of-the-art active safety electronic devices and features. To guarantee the typical feeling of a racing car on the track all the same, the electronic devices can be switched off by the driver on the new 124 spider to enjoy the perfect mechanical balancing and linear response of the engine, which are the genuine trademarks of an authentic rear-wheel drive sports car. The electronic controls are integrated in the Drive Mode Selector, which makes it possible to select the two different performance settings by means of a lever on the central tunnel: “Normal” and “Sport”. The first is designed for everyday driving, the second is optimised for sporty driving. The system can intervene on multiple parameters: maximum delivered torque, accelerator pedal response, power steering operation level, stability and traction control threshold (if they are not switched off for race track driving), exhaust sound by managing the engine while shifting. Furthermore, it changes the shifting points and shifting speed on cars with automatic transmission. Design true to the Abarth DNA The design of 124 spider reflects its outstanding mechanical layout (this being a key features for achieving perfect proportions on a sports car): the stretched bonnet reasserts the importance of the engine and the high power of the car, the short overhangs enhance agility and the passenger compartment close to the rear axle means that the driver can truly feel the road. The passenger compartment/bonnet ratio is comparable to that of a racing car. A horizontal line rises stretches back and joins with the rear line near the rear light cluster: this is an unmistakable reference to the classic 124 spider. Design was developed with a focus on performance: the large air intake on the front bumper and the rear aerodynamic extractor were fine-tuned in the wind tunnel, together with the rear spoiler and the windscreen for optimising air flows. The finish of the 17” alloy wheel rims, the windscreen surround and the roll bars are “Forgiato Grey”, a colour picked to underline the bold, technical inclination of the car. Two elements contrasting with the black grille are inserted in the bumper: a “Corsa Red” front spoiler and tow hook cap characterise the appearance of the front end and hint to the presence of the classic track day red tow hook. Red is also picked up on the rear-view mirror caps. These three elements are Titanio Grey for the red and blue paintwork combos. The original lines of the front end together with the front hexagonal grille contribute to reasserting the car's bold personality. The bonnet humps suggest the longitudinal position of the engine: this is a direct reference to the original 124 spider. The exclusive LED headlights and rear lights add expressiveness to the car, both during the day and at night. An important detail are the rear light cluster inserts in matching body colour which form a luminous ring-shaped surface. The rear end of 124 spider is characterised by two elements: the swallow-tail section rear wings and the horizontal rear lights which pick up particular features of the car's predecessor. The shape of the rear bumpers with the upper surface jutting into the boot lid conveys a characteristic V-shape to the back of the car. The car is available in five colours: two pastel colours, “Turini 1975 White” and “Costa Brava 1972 Red”, and three metallised colours, “Isolad’Elba 1974 Blue”, “Portogallo 1974 Grey" and “San Marino 1972 Black”. The colours are a homage to the prestigious rally wins of Abarth also in their names. The standard colour is San Marino 1972 Black. In short, Abarth 124 spider is the only car in its category to come with metallised paint as standard. As mentioned, the bonnet and rear lid are matte black. This finish is an unmistakable reference to the classic Abarth 124 Rally on which this solution was adopted to prevent the driver from being dazzled by the sun. Alternatively, customers can choose for their Abarth 124 spider to have the lids in matching body colour for no extra cost. Interior design The Abarth DNA is confirmed also on the inside with an overall focus aimed at guaranteeing perfect ergonomics. Leather seats are supporting and very comfortable at the same time to keep the driver in the ideal position as low and retracted as possible to be able to perceive all side movements of the car. Furthermore, the controls are perfectly in line with the sporty set-up of the car: the position of the aluminium pedal board, the vertical steering wheel and the short gear stick ensure a fully enthralling driving experience. The dashboard features a large tachometer with red background arranged in central position facing the driver and a keyless start system. Comfort is guaranteed by standard heated seats and the excellent soundproofing afforded by the noise deadening windscreen, rear window and double-layer top. The latter is designed to be opened and closed with one hand from the driver's seat in a few seconds. Once folded behind the seats it does not occupy space in the boot. Active and passive safety The new Abarth 124 spider is decked out with a host of state-of-the-art active and passive safety devices. In addition to ABS, standard equipment includes EBD, for adjusting front and rear axle brake force distribution so as to optimise braking distances and guarantee control in all load conditions of the car. Of course, also standard is ESC, for optimal control in all driving conditions, in particular in critical situations, in presence of snow, ice or poor road surfaces. The ESC applies selective braking and acts on the accelerator to take the car back on line if a difference between the driver's action on the steering wheel and trajectory is detected. All these devices can be completely deactivated for driving on the race track allowing the driver to exploit the outstanding balancing and dynamic features of Abarth 124 spider to the max and enjoy an unadulterated and direct driving feeling. The three-point seat belts fit Constant-Force Retractors (CFR) to control the degree of force applied by the belt and then gradually release it in controlled manner. On demand, the Visibility Plus pack includes full-LED self-levelling adaptive headlights with automatic orientation to guarantee the best driving comfort also in poor visibility conditions. These are combined with rain sensor, dusk sensor and parking sensors. Equipment: sportiness and comfort The new Abarth 124 spider has a three-gauge instrument panel featuring a large tachometer in the middle, a speedometer on the right and a display on the left allowing the driver to monitor all key driving information at a glance. Standard equipment includes manual climate control system, stereo with four speakers, mp3 player, USB and AUX ports, cruise control, adjustable and electrically folded wing mirrors. Other equipment available on demand are the Sound Plus pack with an integrated Infotainment system that can be operated using an ergonomic, user-friendly knob on the central tunnel. It includes 7-inch colour touchscreen, DAB digital tuner, two USB ports, an AUX port and Bluetooth connection features. It is combined with a Bose sound system with nine speakers, four of which are built into the head restraints. The pack include automatic climate control. Officine Abarth: high technology and hand-crafted care Officine Abarth, based in Mirafiori, is the place where the 124 spider becomes the archetype of Italian engineering mastery. The model receives a special treatment by Abarth engineers, who are genuine car enthusiasts: the Abarth men and women transfer their value to an already exceptional product by adding the anti-glare racing kit, with matte black treatment on bonnet and boot lid; the Alcantara® racing kit which elevates the overall quality of the interiors while guaranteeing real sporty driving sensations with its dark trim and perfect grip; and finally, the Record Monza exhaust as standard equipment for peerless engine performance and unmistakable sound. Each Abarth 124 spider is tested and certified by an Abarth technician who applies a metal plate showing the sequential number of each car to certify its exclusiveness. The first 2500 cars of the 2016 production batch will be numbered: unique numbered cars for unique customers. 2. The New 595 Line-Up: Even More Abarth Following the launch of Abarth 124 spider, it is the evolution of the Abarth icon that since 2008 has gained enthusiasts at global level. Available as hatchback or convertible, the line-up features three trim levels – 595, 595 Turismo and 595 Competizione – corresponding to three levels of engine power and tuning. One of the major innovations is the increased power of the 1.4 T-jet engine equipping the 595 (145 HP) and 595 Turismo (165 HP) versions, the latter with Garrett turbine. The 595 Competizione is now optionally available with mechanical limited-slip differential (Abarth D.A.M.) to improve traction in extreme conditions. Koni FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) shock absorbers for 595 Turismo and 595 Competizione. New front end with oversized air intake, new and more pronounced rear diffuser and new specific inserts. New polyelliptical headlight clusters and LED daylights are standard. Xenon headlights available on request. The new 17” Granturismo alloy rims are 7% lighter and with more than 50% greater ventilating surface. New body colours: Modena Yellow, Abarth Red, three-layer Iridato White and the Scorpione Black/Podio Blue, Scorpione Black/Record Grey and Pista Grey/Abarth Red two-colour combos. The interiors are even more exclusive with the use of new technical materials, such as Alcantara® and carbon fibre. Corsa by Sabelt leather and Alcantara® seats with carbon shell are available on demand. New sporty flat-bottom steering wheel with viewfinder and a one-of-a-kind racing-derived instrument panel. Début of the Uconnect system – of which two 5’’ and 7” HD versions are available with high-def screen, navigator and DAB digital radio – and of the powerful 480 W BeatsAudio™ Hi-Fi system with seven speakers. FCA Bank, dedicated to motorists, is supporting the launch of the New 595 Abarth with an array of specific financing packages, insurance products and services tailored for each European market. It has been just over two months since the launch of Abarth 124 spider and now the brand with the Scorpion trademark is generating buzz again. The New Abarth 595 is the development of the iconic model: more powerful engines, even richer standard equipment and plenty of product innovations, some of which are usually reservedfor higher segment cars. With sales kicking off in June across the EMEA region, the new Abarth model is reasserting its reputation as a compact, lightweight and agile car and as a unique model in terms of configuration and tuning. In brief, the New Abarth 595 is the natural heir of the model launched in 2008 andpresent worldwide.Performance, technology and iconic Italian style are the key factors of a very successful strategy. Available as a hatchback or convertible, the New Abarth 595 is offered with three trim levels (595, 595 Turismo and 595 Competizione) and three power levels to satisfy the requirements of increasingly demanding and competent customers. Many of the upgrades introduced are the result of experience gained with the development of the 695 Biposto, dubbed the "smallest supercar", which implements real racing thrills and technology on a street-legal car. The distinctive yet affordable 595version is the Abarth entry levelmodel and offers all the standard equipment needed to ensure typical Scorpion enjoyment and driving pleasure. What is more, 595 is the ideal base for drivers who want to tune their car over time and make it unique. The 595 Competizione and 595 Turismo versions express other two distinctive souls of Abarth. The first, more "purist", is designed for those who love performance and no-compromise sportiness. The second, on the other hand, makes reference to the typical values of the Italian GTs in a compact size perfect for use in cities. Engine and gearbox One of the biggest innovations is the increased power of the 1.4 T-jet engine installed on the 595 and 595 Turismo versions. The first delivers 145 HP and 206 Nm of peak torque, while the second reaches 165 HP and 230 Nm. What is more, the latter is fitted with aGarrett turbine. On the other hand, 595 Competizione with its 180 HP is the car for drivers who crave racing adrenaline in terms of both performance and technical features. Accelerating from 0-100 in 6.7” and then braking safely with the oversize Brembo braking system with four-piston fixed aluminium callipers will be a pleasure in the anatomical “Abarth Corsa by Sabelt” shell seats. Moreover, the engine also achieves a specific power of 132 HP/litre as a result of the high-performance Record Monza exhaust with dual mode system. This exclusive feature is available, on request, on the rest of the range, together with the Record Modena exhaust that ensures identical performance combined with a less aggressive looking tailpipe. As standard, all variants of the 1.4 T-jet engine are paired with a mechanical five-speed gearbox but they can be fitted with an Abarth robotised sequential gearbox with shift paddles. Abarth D.A.M. The New Abarth 595 is the only car in its segment to fit a truly exclusive mechanical limited-slip differential (Abarth D.A.M.), for superlative performance. Available on demand, the Abarth mechanical limited-slip differential is available on the 595 Competizionewith manual transmission and derives directly from the experience acquired on the 695 Biposto. The Abarth mechanical limited-slip differential exploits the full potential of the 595 Competizione to the utmost and improves traction in extreme conditions. The mechanical limited-slip differential ensures adequate torque transferbetween the front wheels when either has less grip (a typical example is the different speed coming out of curves taken with high lateral load). This equipment allows the driver to close the line and eliminates understeer. Abarth D.A.M. is contained in the new Performance Pack – available on the New Abarth 595 Competizione with manual gearbox only – which includes 17” Supersport rims and Sabelt leather/Alcantara® seats with carbon shell, carved aluminium 595 badgeand the red, white or glossy black customisation pack to personalise the look of the car. Brakes, suspension and Sport button Standard on 595 Turismo and 595 Competizione are the Koni FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) rear shock absorbers that optimise the driving experience and safety by improving road-hold, handling and stability. And now, the same shocks are fitted as standard on 595 Competizione on the front suspension, with a considerable increase in dynamic performance. Also on the top-of-the-range version is theBrembobraking system with four-piston aluminium monoblock fixed callipers – standard red or optionally grey, black or yellow – combined with 305 mm ventilated and perforated discs. The standard callipers are instead black on the 595 Turismo, with red or yellow offered as alternatives. Finally, the New Abarth 595 also fits a Sport buttonto change different parameters of the car: from maximum torque output to power steering calibration to get a more direct and less invasive feel. Furthermore, the system adjusts the accelerator pedal calibration to guarantee prompter response and the TFT instrument panel switches to racing configuration, in perfect Abarth style. Exteriors On the outside, the New Abarth 595 has plenty of new features which improve performance. The front end, for example, was redesigned and nowhas an oversized air intake: this improves heat management in the engine compartment and increases cooling capacity by 18%. So, performance and regularity of engine delivery are increased, even in the case of more extreme racing tuning. Abarth engineers also worked on the rear bumper creating a more pronounced diffuser. Specific bumper inserts have also been created for each trim level. They are matte black for the 595, in matching body colour on the 595 Turismo and with the tar cold grey finish on the 595 Competizione. The front and rear headlight clusters are also new, with polyelliptical headlights and LED daytime running lights on the entire range as standard equipment. Xenon headlights are optionally available. They ensure better emitted light quality and excellent efficiency in all weather conditions because they are nearly three times brighter and longer lasting than normal halogen headlights. The new 17’’ Granturismo rims (standard on 595 Turismo) are 7% lighter and have over 50% more ventilating surface to the benefit of heat dissipation, and enhanced and more consistent braking system performance as a consequence. The distinctive features of the new Abarth 595 include new satin chrome trim on the 595 and Turismo versions, new mirror caps (satin chrome on 595 Turismo, matching body colour on 595 and tar cold grey on 595 Competizione) and the side stripes (standard on 595 Competizione), now wider and longer to give greater emphasis to the Abarth brand. Available in 15 body colours - including pastel, metallic and three-layer paints and five two-tone liveries - the exciting colour palette of the New Abarth 595 includes besides standard Pista Grey the exclusive Modena Yellow, until now only available on the 695 Biposto Record, the sporty and bright new Abarth Red pastel and the new three-layer Iridato White. Making their début are the three new two-colour combos: Scorpione Black/Podio Blue and Scorpione Black/Record Grey and Pista Grey/Abarth Red. Finally, three packs for customising the appearance of the car are available on demand with Abarth side sticker, mirror caps and front and rear bumper inserts in three colours: white, black or red. Interiors The New Abarth 595 is completely new on the inside, too. New technical materials, like Alcantara® and carbon fibre cleverly reassert the sporty character of the model. Furthermore, new upholstery is available on the entire range. In particular, the 595 version offers specific Abarth fabric seats characterised by extraordinary lateral support. The 595 Turismoversion comes with black, tan or red leather seats, while standard on the 595 Competizione are the Corsa by Sabelt seats, amongst the best supporting seats on the market today. They provide extraordinary lateral support and are perfect for sporty driving due to their ability to accurately transmit every minimum load shift to the driver. The seats have fabric upholstery with new graphics and materials for maximising grip. Leather and Alcantara® alternatives in the shades of black or tan are optionally available. Furthermore, the new flat bottom steering wheel with viewfinder was designed to ensure effective sporty driving. Inmoredetail, the standard steering wheel for the Competizione version is made of technical materials, such as carbon fibre and Alcantara®. The dashboard fascia, which has always been one of the most iconic features of the 595, is specifically characterised for each version: matching body colour on 595, matte grey on 595 Turismo and tar cold grey on 595 Competizione. The carbon dashboard fascia derived from the 695 Biposto is now available as optional equipment and may be ordered to complement the passenger compartment of the 595 Competizione even further. The innovations continue with a brandnew sports instrument panel, which improves readability, especially with the new graphics that characterise the Sport mode. Moreover, the manometer lighting is white so as to make reading easier and more immediate. Infotainment All versions are equipped with Uconnect™ 5” Radio with touchscreen and Uconnect Live services as standard equipment (also with built-in navigator and DAB on request). Uconnect™ 7” HD, a fast platform complete with high-def screen, navigation and DAB digital radio, is also appearing for the first time on the range. The Uconnect 7” HD system comes with high-def screen andAbarth Telemetryun for gauging driving performance on preloaded circuits to study driving style and improve it. It is also customisable, offering the possibility to record new tracks and store them for later retrieval to compare performance. With the preloaded points of interest (Officine Abarth and other significant places for the brand) each owner can now "collect" special badges. Results and progress can naturally be shared on the social pages. Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto – considered the best smartphone mirroring solutions for Apple iOS and Android – will become available upon request on Uconnect 7". This will allow quick and easy access to all the functions and contents of the smartphone on the touchscreen of the New Abarth 595s. Finally, the refined and powerful BeatsAudio™ system with seven speakers is making its appearance on the New Abarth 595. It will certainly win over even the most demanding music lovers. Developed in collaboration with Beats by Dr.Dre, the BeatsAudioTM system boasts an impressive total output of 480 watts and features a digital eight-channel amplifier integrating an advanced equalisation algorithm capable of recreating the entire sound spectrum that an artist experiences during studio recording. The Beats AudioTM sound system has two dome tweeters installed in the front pillars, two 165 mm midwoofers in the front doors, two full-range 165 mm speakers in the rear side panels and one 200 mm subwoofer in the middle of the boot in the spare wheel compartment. FCA Bank To support the launch of the New 595 Abarth, FCA Bank, dedicated to motorists, is offering three financing packages to give the possibility of accessing the brand's trademark exciting driving experience to all customers. The new Fiat 124 Spider Model overview Design Engine, transmission and suspension Technology & Infotainment Safety EMEA range FCA Bank for the new 124 Spider Mopar for the new 124 Spider Heritage Model overview The new Fiat 124 Spider revives the storied nameplate, bringing its classic styling and typically Italian performance to a new generation. Paying homage to the original 124 Spider that was launched 50 years ago, the new 124 Spider delivers an authentic Italian roadster experience packed with driving excitement, technology and safety, combined with an inimitable Italian design. The new 124 Spider can now be ordered from showrooms of the major European markets. For specific details and prices, visit the local press sites. The designers at the Fiat Style Centre have created a car that encompasses in a new perspective the classic beauty of its predecessor without betraying its very essence. The front-end is bold without being aggressive and the two small domes on the bonnet give an indication of the engine's power. The side boasts the proportions of a true sports car, suggesting its longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive mechanical architecture and its retracted passenger compartment. An exciting drive thanks to skilled design work In the EMEA region, the Fiat 124 Spider is equipped with the reliable 1.4-litre turbo four-cylinder engine with MultiAir technology, which delivers 140 HP power and 240 Nm of torque, and is available with a six-speed manual transmission. The performance is outstanding, including a top speed of 215 km/h with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The 124 Spider's suspension uses a double-wishbone layout in front and a multilink in the rear, specifically tuned for greater stability while braking and turning. Steering is light and responsive with the use of an electric power assist system. The steering and suspension setup, lightweight frame, balanced weight distribution and turbocharged engine combine for a dynamic driving experience. Noise vibration and harshness (NVH) enhancements, including an acoustic front windscreen and insulation treatments, also help to deliver a refined, quiet ride. For an open-air driving experience, the Fiat 124 Spider's soft convertible top is easy to operate and requires minimal force. Packed with high-technology safety devices The new roadster features active and passive safety systems, including adaptive headlights, rear video camera, and the stability control system, plus a body that gives high rigidity and low weight thanks to the extensive use of high-tensile materials. What's more, the Fiat 124 Spider offers a range of high-technology devices that further improve the comfort and on-board well-being, such as the 7" touchscreen display with digital radio, Multimedia Control, Bluetooth connectivity, heated seats and Keyless Entry system. To get incomparable audio quality even with the top down, there is the Bose premium Hi-Fi system with 9 speakers, four of which are incorporated into the headrests. Design pays homage to the past, reinterpreting stylish finishes with a modern twist Designed in the Turin Style Centre, the new Fiat 124 Spider retains several trims and features of the original 1966 car – unanimously considered to be one of the coolest looking Fiats of all time – and revisits them in a contemporary key. The Fiat 124 Spider has a slender, timeless silhouette, an attractive, classic and perfectly proportioned side panel, a low centre of gravity, a retracted passenger compartment and a long bonnet like a true sports car. References to the historic model are also made in the upper grille and in the pattern of the hexagonal front grille, in the classic "humps" along the front bonnet and the bold horizontal rear lights. The interiors are designed and made to ensure maximum comfort for all occupants, starting with the use of top-quality, soft materials. The ergonomic design of the car was painstakingly designed to enhance the driving experience, also through the perfect layout of pedals, steering wheel and transmission. The Fiat 124 Spider is available in two trim levels - 124 Spider and Lusso - each one available with eight different body colours: two pastel shades (Passione Red and Gelato White), five metallic shades (Vesuvio Black, Argento Grey, Moda Grey, Magnetico Bronze and Italia Blue) and the three-coat Ghiaccio White. Design Designed at the Centro Stile of Turin, the new Fiat 124 Spider is a modern reinterpretation of a true legend, in addition to one of the most popular Fiats of all time: the original Spider from the 1960s. The iconic style of the 124 Spider, in fact, evokes some of the finishes of its forerunner, adapting them to the modern taste of the twenty-first Century. This is the story behind a model that has joined the Fiat range of contemporary cars that are linked closely to the tradition of the brand. Exterior With its slender, timeless silhouette, the Fiat 124 Spider features an attractive, classic and perfectly proportioned side panel, a low centre of gravity, a retracted passenger compartment and a long bonnet like a true sports car. A horizontal line rises from the front, stretches back and joins with the rear line near the rear light cluster: this is an unmistakable reference to the classic 124 Spider. In the same way, the upper hexagonal grille was inspired by the exclusive form of the front air intakes on the historical model and recalls the honeycomb structure of the sporty grille on the legendary 124 Spider. The original headlights together with the front hexagonal grille contribute to reasserting the car's bold personality. The lower grille is charming and just touched by the lid-shaped headlight surrounds. The front direction indicators and fog light covers add a dynamic touch and together make the front of the car truly unmistakable. The “humps” on the bonnet emphasise the position of the engine and the power delivered: it is a reference to the second-generation 124 Spider, a vehicle which featured this type of structure. The exclusive LED headlights and rear lights add expressiveness to the car, both during the day and at night. The rear end of the Fiat 124 Spider is characterised by two elements: the swallow-tail section rear wings and the horizontal rear lights which pick up particular features of the car's predecessor. The shape of the rear bumpers, with the upper surface jutting into the rear door, conveys a characteristic V-shape to the back of the car. One significant detail lies in the rear lights, which form a ring-shaped luminous surface thanks to the body-coloured inserts. There are eight liveries to choose from: two pastel shades, Passione Red and Gelato White; five metallic shades, Vesuvio Black, Argento Grey, Moda Grey, Magnetico Bronze and Italia Blue; and the three-coat Ghiaccio White. Further details which accommodate both technical and styling requirements include the built-in rear spoiler, which improves the aerodynamic load, and the double exhaust pipe, which emphasises the engine's performance capacity. Last but by no means least, the rear number plate is fitted in the middle of the rear lights, in pure original 124 Spider style. Interior All the interior has been set up with top-quality materials: leather for the seats, steering wheel and gear stick boot. Soft-touch materials for the upper dashboard and chrome-plated finishes make this new Fiat a prime example of Italian manufacturing excellence. The interiors of the 124 Spider are designed and built to ensure maximum on-board comfort. Moreover, the ergonomic design of the car was painstakingly designed and fine-tuned to ensure the perfect layout of pedals, steering wheel and transmission. The exclusive design of the dashboard, with a glossy black or silver insert depending on the trim level, further enhances the soft-touch materials. The steering wheel was ergonomically designed to improve vehicle manoeuvrability, and is wrapped with high-quality leather. Also the light mesh structure seats and exclusive shape of the trim and foam parts were designed to guarantee the highest level of comfort. The door panels are made with high-quality, soft-touch materials and the chromed handle has a satin finish. The instrument panel in front of the driver's seat has three indicators, including the centrally positioned rev counter, designed for sporty driving. Engine, transmission and suspension In the EMEA region, the Fiat 124 Spider is equipped with the reliable 1.4-litre turbo four-cylinder engine with MultiAir technology, which delivers 140 HP power (103 kW) and 240 Nm of torque. The engine has retained its distinguishing features: four cylinders in-line with an aluminium head, a 72 mm bore and an 84 mm stroke, for a total displacement of 1,368 cm3. The Fiat 124 Spider reaches a top speed of 215 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The outstanding dynamism of the car is also achieved thanks to the rear-wheel drive, an extremely well-balanced weight distribution and a low centre of gravity. Lightweight manual transmission for rapid and accurate gear shifts The transmission in the 124 Spider comprises a 6-speed manual transmission with a compact and lightweight structure. The couplings are direct and fluid, and lever manoeuvrability is optimal. The selection of this type of transmission makes it possible to use a compact rear differential unit that increases efficiency while reducing fuel consumption. The clutch pedal was optimised to allow the driver to control the pickup phase precisely and make quick gear changes to maximise driving pleasure. Suspension and steering devised for excellent driving dynamics In the front, the new 124 Spider uses an elegant quadrilateral suspension, whereas the rear adopts a multilink architecture for total vehicle control in a curve. Thanks to the dual pinion electric power steering, the steering of the 124 Spider is light and reactive, and filters road stress. The interlocking applied directly on the rack ensures extremely precise command feedback, even when lateral accelerations are particularly high. The position of the steering column, together with the transmission ratio of the steering, guarantees a linear response that adapts to any driving style. Technology & Infotainment The new Fiat 124 Spider affords an extensive range of high-tech instruments, which enhance the sporty nature of the car and allow customers to stay connected and safe at all times. The 124 Spider has a three-gauge instrument panel featuring a large rev counter in the middle, a speedometer on the right and a data display on the left allowing the driver to monitor all key driving information at a glance. The new Fiat 124 Spider features easy-to-use infotainment systems. The 3.0” car radio, which is supplied as standard on both trim levels, includes an AM/FM radio, an MP3 player, a USB port, an AUX socket and 6 speakers. The infotainment system, which is optional for both trim levels, includes a 7" touchscreen display, AM/FM radio, HD Radio, MP3 player, two USB ports, auxiliary socket, six speakers, multimediacontrol and Bluetooth connectivity. The Lusso trim level also includes a rear camera and 3D navigation system. Also included on the 7" system, voice recognition allows drivers to operate their mobile phone, music and navigation system hands-free, to stay focused on driving. Voice-text reply also allows drivers with a compatible mobile phone to reply to a text message using predefined responses. Other available options include navigation. For superior sound quality even with the top down, a Bose premium sound system with nine speakers, including dual headrest speakers per seat and a subwoofer, is available. For added entertainment, the system also provides drivers with access to App Aha and Stitcher Internet radio apps via Bluetooth connectivity. Aha by Harman and Stitcher Radio Aha makes it easy to access instantly more than 30,000 stations of audio content, including leading Internet music services, Internet radio, news, entertainment, audiobooks, Facebook and Twitter newsfeeds, weather and more. Stitcher Radio is an application that provides access to thousands of radio shows and podcasts streamed directly to devices without downloading or syncing. Recommended content is automatically selected by registering content added to Favourites. Connected services “Connected services” is a subscription package which makes every trip simpler and more comfortable. Specifically, it can be used to look for service stations and sort them by position or by price; it can receive traffic warnings, weather information and places of interest. Safety The new Fiat 124 Spider offers an extensive range of devices, both standard and optional, for active and passive safety. LED rear light clusters, four airbags and ABS are always supplied as standard, in addition to sophisticated stability control systems. Indeed, ESC increases the driver's vehicle control, allowing him or her to maintain a stable direction in all driving conditions. It is useful in critical situations, e.g. on corners and mixed surfaces in the presence of snow, ice and gravel. The ESC applies selective braking and acts on the accelerator to take the car back on line if a difference between the driver's action and trajectory is detected. Last but not least, EBD adjusts front and rear brake force distribution so as to optimise braking distances and control in all load conditions of the car. The three-point seat belts, with pretensioners, fit Constant-Force Retractors (CFR) to control the degree of force applied by the belt onto the occupant and then gradually release it in a controlled manner. What's more, the active load limiters optimise chest protection depending on the weight in the case of impact. The body is made with high-tensile materials, with dedicated structural elements designed specifically to warp and absorb energy in the event of impact, thereby improving protection for the occupants. The steering columns is designed for energy absorption, and the brake pedal is non-intrusive: all these solutions help reduce the extent of injuries in the event of an accident. Other features make the driving experience at the wheel of the new Fiat 124 Spider truly comfortable. These include, for instance, the rear parking assistance system, ParkSense, which detects any objects at a standstill during reverse parking at low speed, and the rear camera, which provides a wide-angle view of the area immediately behind the vehicle. There are also systems available, such as Keyless Entry designed to open the car and start the engine while keeping your car keys in your pocket, as well as light and rain sensors. Lastly, you can also order a voice-controlled infotainment system that allows the driver to use a Bluetooth-compatible phone while keeping their hands firmly on the steering wheel and without taking their eyes off the road. The first time the Bluetooth and phone are paired, the phone directory is downloaded automatically and synchronised. Subsequently, contacts can simply be selected by saying the corresponding name out loud. The system also allows the driver to select one of the radio modes available, and to tune in to AM/FM stations and digital radio. EMEA range 124 Spider The 124 Spider trim level includes a double exhaust pipe, roll-bar with black finish, in addition to body-coloured pillar and door handles. The car comes standard with 16'' alloy wheel rims, as well as black fabric seat upholstery, halogen headlights, LED rear light clusters and cruise control. Inside, the soft-touch materials used on the dashboard are embellished by a silver-finish trim. Lusso The Lusso trim level adds the following extras to the 124 Spider version: 17'' alloy wheel rims, silver-coloured front pillar and roll-bar, chrome-plated double exhaust pipe and fog lights as standard. The exclusive interior includes black or tobacco coloured leather seat upholstery, upholstered lower dashboard and dashboard lip with visible stitching and automatic climate control. Both trim levels include 4 airbags, MP3 radio with USB port and four speakers, leather steering wheel, cruise control, start button and Keyless Go function. Heritage The Fiat 124 Sport Spider was presented at the Turin International Motor Show in November 1966, and it was launched on the US market two years later. Almost 50 years after its début, the 124 Spider is still an icon for collectors and car enthusiasts alike. The Spider was fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox, a 1438 cm3 twin camshaft engine and disc brakes on all four wheels and intermittent windscreen wipers. The 124 Spider, an evolution of the Fiat medium-range saloon car from the 1960s, the 124, was a genuine sports car which was extremely successful for a considerable period of time, both on the domestic market and outside it. The car, which was produced for 19 years in a row, in fact outlived almost all other sports cars of its time. In the United States alone, over 170,000 Spiders were sold between 1968 and 1985. Americans were mad about the proportions and noticeably Italian style of the Spider, as well as its waterproof soft top that could be lowered directly from the driver's seat very quickly and simply. The design of the 124 Spider – created by Pininfarina, Fiat's historic partner in the creation of special versions - proved so popular that the vehicle in fact underwent just a few minor stylistic updates during its twenty-year-long production stint, and it is still considered today one of the major commercial successes of the Turin-based bodyshop. In Europe, the second series of the model was presented in 1969, and it stands out for its supersized engine of 1608 cm3 and certain styling modifications, including the two panels on the front bonnet and the larger rear light clusters; lastly, in 1972, the third series was launched on the market, and this model boasted two new drive trains, derived from the Fiat 132, with a displacement of 1592 and 1756 cm³. In the United States, almost ten years after it was first launched, the Fiat 124 Spider had proven so successful that Fiat decided to produce the vehicle exclusively for that market from 1975 onwards. In 1979 the vehicle was renamed Spider 2000, in reference to its new 1995 cm3 engine. Towards the end of 1981, Pininfarina redesigned the entire production process for the car, which was re-introduced onto the market in Europe. In 1982, Spider production by Fiat and Pininfarina overlapped: while Fiat produced the latest models of the Spider 2000, Pininfarina began to produce its own version, sold in the USA as the Pininfarina Spider Azzurra and in Europe as the Pininfarina Spider Europa. On the Pininfarina Spider Azzurra, leather upholstery, stereo system/cassette player and electric windows came as standard. Production of the Spider model ceased in 1985, after almost 200,000 cars had been sold. With its American début at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2015, followed by the European launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, the new Fiat 124 Spider is deeply rooted in the traditions of this legendary car and it intends to make a new generation of car enthusiasts fall in love with it style and with its typically Italian performance levels. 160115_Fiat_124-Spider_Technical-Sheet_ENG.pdf
