  3. Panda record: the Natural Power car number 300.000 is produced in Pomigliano Yet another record for two Fiat Chrysler Automobiles stars: Panda - the ageless best seller of the Fiat brand, leader of the A class in Europe in 2016, with nearly 15% share, up 1.4% compared to 2015 - and the G. Vico di Pomigliano d'Arco plant, winner of several awards after its full renovation completed in 2011. Manufactured in the plant near Naples, the 300 thousandth Panda Natural Power has been celebrated by staff and is destined to be used in many events, beginning with the forthcoming International Motor Show in Geneva. No other methane-powered car in Europe has the Panda's numbers. It was the first mass produced CNG car, and from 2007 to date, has been the best selling methane car in Europe. During the same time period, behind the Panda is another Fiat car: the Punto. The record-braking Panda is a white Lounge, which will be on show with a custom made livery. Equipped with a two-cylinder TwinAir Turbo Natural Power engine, with dual petrol - methane fuel, it develops 80 HP (59 kW) and consumes 4.5 litres of petrol or 3.1 kilos of methane (per one hundred kilometres of combined cycle), with minimal CO2 emissions: 106 g/km when using petrol and 85g/km when using methane. Compared to petrol, methane reduces CO2 emissions by 23 per cent and nitric oxide emissions by 52 per cent. FCA has been the leader in Europe for petrol-methane dual fuel vehicles for twenty years, with over 700 thousand sold vehicles and a range of six Fiat brand models (Panda, Punto, Qubo, Doblò, 500L and 500L Living), one from Lancia (Ypsilon) and four from Fiat Professional: Fiorino, Doblò Cargo, Ducato and Ducato Panorama. In order to obtain real benefits in air quality, and thus sustainable mobility, we need to continue working on combined traditional and alternative technologies, keeping in mind the specific rules of each market. Among these, methane has the potential of being a renewable source thanks to biomethane, a fuel with high development potential. Biomethane denotes a bio-gas that yields a concentration of methane after a refining process (from urban, agricultural of farming waste), so that it can be used as bio-fuel for engine vehicles just like natural gas. Biomethane produces 20% less CO2 emissions than petrol. The real advantage of biomethane becomes clear when we consider the full life cycle of this fuel, the so called "well-to-wheel" cycle. In this case reduction in CO2 emissions can exceed 95 per cent, depending on the original raw material: biomethane fuelled vehicles produce the same amount of CO2 as electric cars using renewable source energy. If we consider a 40% methane-biomethane mix instead, its CO2 emissions are the same as those of an electric vehicle using energy from the energy mix of European production plants. Like all other Fiat Chrysler Automobiles methane models, the Panda Natural Power is already biomethane compatible. The Pomigliano d'Arco began production in 1972 with the Alfasud model. Over the years, its production lines churned out many models of Alfa Romeo (33 and 155, 145 and 146, 156 and 147, GT and 159) until November 2011, when Panda production began, reaching 830 thousand cars since then. In 2012, the plant obtained a Silver award in the World Class Manufacturing certification programme, as well as the Automotive Lean Production Award as Best in Europe. In 2013 - only a year later, and still within the WCM programme - the plant was certified at Gold level. A new international accolade was obtained in 2014: the Lean and Green Management Award, a testament to the progress made in optimising all "resources" needed to produce cars. The G. Vico plant continues its drive to reduce the environmental impact of production via continuous improvements, including responsible consumption of energy and water, and quality air and waste management. Finally, the plant is often visited by technicians and researchers (not just from the automotive industry), keen to study its technologies and efficiency. Turin, 23 February 2017
  4. The legendary Ducato was born on October 23, 1981 Thirty-five years of successes and records for the emblematic Fiat Professional model that is still today one of the most popular in Europe due to its versatility, engine power and low running costs. Retracing the history of Ducato means leafing through some of the most interesting episodes of the industry. The first Ducato, an extraordinary model that revolutionised the high-capacity van market with its front-wheel drive, engine power and spacious loading area, rolled off the lines at Sevel (Società Europea Veicoli Leggeri), in Val di Sangro (Italy), on October 23, 1981. Production continues today in the largest factory for medium-to-large size vans in the EMEA Region (the five million vehicle mark was reached in 2015). Fiat Professional is celebrating the key moments of these 35 years of history with a dedicated ADV campaign, social media activities on the official Facebook page and an emotional video that will available for viewing from the morning of October 23 on the fiatprofessional.com website. The claim of the campaign that will be broadcast across all the involved channels is "We never dreamed of success. We built it" and represents the undisputed leadership of Ducato in the commercial vehicle category. Not by chance, over the years, Ducato has been progressively developed to become the benchmark and a trendsetter produced in over 10,000 variants and sold in more than 80 countries worldwide. Furthermore, the many body variants, the efficient chassis and the car-like driving has made it the go-to choice for outfitters of special purpose vehicles and camper vans. From the beginning, the first series of Ducato (1981-1990) implemented an array of innovative solutions, like the front transverse engine with traction and tank combined in a single module with the cab. These features made a variety of hitherto unprecedented models possible. The body variants included two roof heights and Van, Combi, Bus and Truck variants. The two wheelbases (2923 and 3653 millimetres) meant the van could total a load volume of 9.8 cubic metres and achieve a permissible gross weight up to 2800 kilograms. In 1984, the use of inclined shock absorbers produced a completely flat load area, and in 1985 the Maxi version increased maximum load to 3500 kilograms. Finally, in 1989, the Fiat Ducato with Steyr-Puch all-wheel drive made an appearance. Ten years after its launch on the market (1990-1994), Ducato achieved its first milestone with the second series, with the four-wheel drive making its grand début: on 1 October 1991, the 500,000th vehicle rolled off the production line. The power of the 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine was upped to 70 kW (95 HP) and an innovative propulsion system, the all-electric Fiat Ducato Elettra, was introduced for the first time. The range was complemented by the introduction of a third wheelbase (3200 millimetres). The third generation (1994-2002) was launched in 1994. CX was improved (dropping to 0.35) and a new vehicle cab design inspired by practical professional requirements was introduced: for the first time in the sector, the gear lever was incorporated into the central console rendering the central part of the floor usable and facilitating access to the cab from both doors and from the cab to the loading compartment: this improved both ergonomics and productivity. Specialist press recognised the innovation and customer focus of the Ducato by awarding it the title of "International Van of the Year 1994". Further improvements aimed at comfort characterised the noughties. For instance, height-adjustable seats and three-spoke steering wheels were introduced on the fourth series (2002-2006) in 2002. The engine line-up of Ducato was also developed. A direct injection Common Rail engine - a major step forward in terms of performance, quiet operation and high efficiency - was adopted for the first time in 2002. Furthermore, Ducato opened the alternative fuel era with its petrol/methane engine, which laid the foundations for the success of brand as European market leader in the methane-powered van sector. The fifth generation of the Ducato joined the scene in 2006, extending the range and further increasing flexibility: it was the first front-wheel van to offer a volume of 17 cubic metres. Most of all, it set the bar in terms of efficient running and low maintenance costs, in addition to fuel efficiency and low emission levels, by offering a wide range of diesel engines implementing second-generation MultiJet technology. The sixth generation launched in 2014 boasted the greatest front axle load (up to 2100 kilograms) and greatest rear axle load (up to 2500 kilograms) for single rear axle vehicles, as well as the highest maximum load. The van version of Ducato could carry a maximum payload of 2100 kilograms. Furthermore, air suspensions on the rear axle were made available for the first time. Over the years, Ducato crossed the borders of Europe to reach Russia, South America, the Middle East and Australia. Today, it is sold in over 80 countries worldwide, including North America since 2013 by RAM under the name of "PROMASTER". Produced in three countries (Mexico, Brazil and Italy) and sold all over the world, Ducato is truly a global vehicle and with its sixth generation it will spur the growth of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in the light commercial vehicles sector. 6.
  7. “Born to be professional”: Fiat Professional introduces its "full liner" range: Fiat Professional's "full liner" range The pivotal year for Fiat Professional will be 2016, the one when the brand's "full liner" range will be revealed in all its glory. The brand has been continuously evolving to prepare to tackle the crucial challenges with new products, a novel, even more customer-oriented approach and the determination to open new roads in the global market. Not by chance, this was the first brand "born to be professional". Fiat Professional, entirely dedicated to light transport, can boast over one hundred years of history and a one-of-a-kind baggage of experience in the world of commercial vehicles. Skills have been consolidated over time with unremitting enthusiasm to take on challenges and constantly develop without fearing change. The approach is one of professionals who address other professionals, with innovative and targeted business solutions and an increasingly extensive range. Completely refreshed in just two years, the Fiat Professional line-up today has the right answers to all transport mission needs because all segments are covered. All body types, loading capacities and volumes, a complete choice of wheelbases, widths and height variants, in addition to high-efficiency engines and various fuels options (petrol, diesel, LPG and methane). What is more, the brand places assertive focus on "specialities", such as passenger transport and the world of converted vehicles. So, with this increasingly more customer-oriented approach come new prospects for presenting the line-up dedicated to work and to making businesses grow. Fiat Professional is the only commercial vehicle brand to have a team entirely dedicated to this business area and supports customers with professional mobility solutions for work and leisure. In brief: professionals who support a community of professionals who successfully complete their missions day by day with pride. The product that symbolises this innovation is the Fullback pick-up truck which is introducing the brand to entirely new playing field and is a major leap towards the growth of Fiat Professional as a global brand. Interestingly, pick-up trucks are one of the most important segments in the EMEA region amounting to 22% of the entire commercial vehicle mix. While the average mark in Europe is about 6% and on the rise, in Africa and the Middle East it reaches a remarkable 70%. Fullback is the result of a partnership - based on a technical platform of absolute and tried and tested value - and is built on a body-on-frame architecture which guarantees capacity, capabilities and resistance to extreme efforts, like travelling fully loaded off-road. In short, as the name suggests, it is a player created to open the way to new prospects. In rugby and in American football, the fullback is the last man in defence, but also the first to rush towards the opponent's line. Fullbacks need to be ready to adapt to all situations: tough and reliable in defence, fast and explosive for the counter-attack. Perfectly in tune with best competition in terms of configuration, dimensions and engines, the Fullback pick-up truck is the new Fiat Professional "Work Hero". By its side is Talento, the model that with its generous loading capacity is the ideal work mate for professionals in city streets and on major roads alike. Its features include outstanding versatility and the ability to adapt to the most diverse needs of customers. Its highly symbolic name evokes the innate qualities of the vehicle and the concept of value by making reference to the name of an ancient coin as in the best Fiat Professional tradition. The result is a functional vehicle that enhances the value of work, time and money of professionals by focusing on their real needs. Talento is link between Doblò Cargo and Ducato and is allowing Fiat Professional to cover new load volumes and lengths and compete in the 2P segment with an ideal-sized wheelbase. Also new in the line-up is the new Fiorino, the evolution of the model that invented the small van segment. With refreshed a design, inside and out, the new Fiat Professional vehicle is perfect for use in cities, agile in traffic and easy to park. Despite this, it has a remarkable loading capacity of up to 2.8 m3 and can carry up to 660 kg of payload. Furthermore, the new Fiorino is at the top of its class in terms of performance, low running costs, comfort and functionality. Ducato and Doblò Cargo complete the Fiat Professional team. The first is the best-seller of the brand, which over 35 years and six generations has been chosen by over 2.9 million customers. Without considering that more than 600,000 families travel in a Fiat Ducato base motorhome, the Ducato base being the undisputed leader in this sector and a benchmark in the category: over 75% of motorhomes in circulation today have a Ducato base. To keep on playing a leading role in the segment, in 2014 the model was restyled to accommodate the new requirements of customers, offering them more technology, more efficiency and more value. Today, it has become the talk of the town once again for its new range of Euro6 engines implementing LPEGR and SCR technology according to the vehicle mission. Last but not least, Doblò Cargo offers the biggest range of its segment, spanning from vans to special vehicles and conversions for specific uses. The heir to a winning model - it has been sold to over 1 million 675 thousand customers from 2000 to date - the vehicle aims at consolidating its position in this market segment, which makes up approximately 25% of the European total light commercial vehicles. Its particularities include top-in-class loading capacity (up to 5.4 m³) and payload (up to 1 tonne), in addition to the adoption of exclusive Bi-link suspensions and a complete range of Euro6 engines (turbo diesel, petrol and petrol/methane) which stand out for their performance and fuel-efficiency. All are winning models, capable of responding to all professional needs, that cover 97% of the market: these are the sound foundations on which the renovation of the brand is based. Together with the new products, Fiat Professional is also evolving by expanding the commercial sales force and the dealership network, boosting service quality and accessing new markets with made-to-measure solutions. This means having the right models available, and above all having them available in the right segments - those which represents the largest slice of the sales mix. All this will allow Fiat Professional to balance the European market share with that of Italy and double sales in Africa and the Middle East, where the brand is expanding its network also by exploiting the synergy with Chrysler. For the new line-up, Fiat Professional has created a new advertising project that will feature the Fullback together with the other models always in action. A close, winning team ready to take on any challenge. But that's not all. Fullback is the "product hero" of the official fleet of Motorcross World Championship (MXGP), of which Fiat Professional is Official Sponsor and Title Sponsor in three of main races of the championship, in the UK, Belgium and Italy. This sponsorship project is very important and perfect for the pick-up truck to express its sporty temperament and its off-road vocation. Talento and Fullback Converted with Specific Equipment Four Talento and three Fullback models converted with specific equipment will be introduced at the presentation of the new range to the international press. These are only a few significant examples of the remarkable flexibility of the Fiat Professional models, which are ideal for passenger transport, from shuttles to assisted mobility, and versatile for professional use: mobile workshops, flatbeds, insulated vans or with refrigerated cell, camper vans for leisure and vehicles for Public Authorities to name a few. In brief, there is no professional activity or mobility need that cannot be satisfied by a Fiat Professional vehicle conversion, as demonstrated by the collaboration with the major European outfitters. More in detail, the first Talento (long wheelbase, low roof) showcases an example of conversion for use by disabled passengers. The vehicle on show was converted by Olmedo and is equipped with electro-hydraulic rear lift and modular rear floor, with quick-release seats to allow outstanding configuration flexibility: the vehicle can carry either nine passengers or eight passengers and two wheelchairs. The second Talento (long wheelbase, low roof) was outfitted for exclusive shuttle services with seven leather seats, swivelling second row, floor with rails and ABS lining. This conversion was made in partnership with Focaccia. The third Talento (short wheelbase, low roof) was converted by Plastoblock into an A.T.P. classified insulated vehicle, capable of maintaining constant temperatures of even 0°C. In particular, a refrigerated cell suitable for transporting pharmaceuticals or food may be obtained by applying a refrigerating unit. The Talento line-up is completed by a fourth proposal (short wheelbase, low roof) converted by Storevan into a mobile workshop made of automotive galvannealled steel and featuring a quick and flexible modular fixing system. The spotlight will also be on the Fullback, the new Fiat Professional model which is perfect for multiple conversions. The first example, based on an Extended Cab model, was made by Cold Car and features a eutectic solution low-temperature refrigerated body which is ideal for daily deliveries of frozen food products. The second pick-up truck was converted into a mobile workshop by NCT and features modular and reconfigurable aluminium section bars for transporting equipment and spare parts for on-site maintenance services. Finally, in collaboration with OMARS, a Fullback (Double Cab) was converted for roadside rescue services by fitting a towing forklift.
  8. Created in 1936, the iconic car revolutionised the concept of motor vehicle. For occasion, four days in the most symbolic places in Turin, starting from the Lingotto. On Thursday 16 and 6:30 p.m. at MAUTO, conference on classic car heritage with Roberto Giolito. A great international event will be staged in Turin from June 16 to 19, to celebrate the eightieth anniversary of the Fiat 500 "Topolino" organised by the "Ling80" Committee. The iconic car was the symbol of motorisation not only in Italy and the benchmark in the years around World War II. It was Fiat's first economical car to be launched before the war and represented a revolution in how cars were made and perceived by the public: with the Topolino, motor cars were to become personal mobility instruments and expressions of unprecedented freedom. Celebrations will kick off in the former Lingotto plant, where on the day after tomorrow over two hundred Topolinos will climb up the famous elliptical ramp and stand on the test track on the roof of the historical building where production of the model started in 1936. With this ambitious project, engineer Dante Giacosa wanted to make motor cars accessible to as many people as possible. Made until 1955, the Topolino was the undisputed star of the reconstruction of Italy after the war. Again on Thursday, the cars will be parade from the Lingotto to the Pralormo Castle. The procession will be opened by the car owned by Dante Giacosa, which is now on show at the Fiat Heritage Centre. The parade will touch various key locations in and around the city during the various days of the event, including the royal hunting residence of Stupinigi, Racconigi Castle, Moncalieri, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the Juventus Stadium, the Mirafiori Motor Village and the National Automobile Museum. Precisely the latter location will be the stage for a conference focusing on the classic car history entitled "Back to the future", with Roberto Giolito, Head of Heritage FCA Italy on Thursday at 6.30 p.m. Starting from the concept of how the Topolino was the expression of all-encompassing automotive ingenuity, with its innovative engine, chassis, suspension and interior layout concept, Roberto Giolito will illustrate the invaluable legacy of this revolutionary motor car and how its concept and engineering was to influence many later models. The city of Turin and the Lingotto building will be the natural locations for this commemorative event. Opened in 1923, the Fiat factory is still admired today for its modernity and elegant vertical development. At the time, the solution of building a test track on the roof gained the admiration of architect Le Corbusier. Even before having been completed, the building which had been designed as a place of work had become the symbol of the burgeoning Italian industry and soon gained a footing in the nation's collective imaginary. The cars which like the Topolino rolled off the lines here have travelled through the decades and contributed to motorising Italy until production was transferred to more modern plants. After having been decommissioned, the Lingotto was renovated to suit the needs of a changing urban fabric: from fine example of industrial archaeology, the factory underwent a long interior refurbishment while maintaining its characteristic exterior appearance unaltered. It is an iconic location where the car which has rightfully gained its place in history was made. Turin, 14 June 2016
Fiat’s, or rather Abarth’s new Limited Edition 695 Biposto Record packs a mighty punch for its size, but at a cost that might leave you feeling like someone just punched you in the stomach. Announced on Tuesday for the UK market, the special edition Abarth model that’s based on the Fiat 500 city car comes with a 190hp 1.4-liter turbocharged four and plenty of styling and performance upgrades at a pretty hefty cost, as it’s priced at £36,610 OTR (equal to $55,700 or €52,300). But those are UK prices, some of you will say, and to you, we reply that the BMW M135i Hatch and M235i Coupe start from £31,860 and £35,075 respectively, while the new 350PS Ford Focus RS and 310PS Honda Civic Type R both start from £29,995. Nevertheless, this is a very special limited production model aimed at enthusiasts who want the fastest production city car or as the Italians put it, the ‘world’s smallest supercar’. Only 133 examples will be made for worldwide distribution with just a portion of those cars coming to the UK, so we imagine that Fiat shouldn’t have a problem convincing diehard fans looking for the ultimate 500. The Record model is based on the two-seat Abarth 695 Biposto using the same 190hp and 250 Nm strong 1.4L turbo mill which has to push around only 997kg (2,198 pounds), resulting in the best-in-category weight-to-power ratio at 5.2 kg/hp and 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint time at 5.9 seconds, with the mini achieving a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph). In this limited edition Record trim, it’s finished in an exclusive 'Modena Yellow' color with 'Tar Cold Grey' trims and '695 Record' badges, and sports 18-inch OZ alloy wheels, large Brembo brakes and a throatier Akrapovic exhaust. On the inside, there’s a special instrument panel animation, Sabelt carbon shell seats, four point seatbelts, a cargo net and a unique numbered plate. http://www.carscoops.com/2015/11/new-abarth-695-biposto-record-is.html
  13. http://lanciafan.blogspot.ro/2015/11/the-great-abarth-classiche-project.html The Great Abarth Classiche Project Introducing Abarth Classiche, a long-term project which involves the entire universe of the Scorpion brand. Indeed, the initiative will be composed of several elements, starting with the restoration centre being opened today, 18th November, at the Mirafiori Abarth Workshop in Turin. In the beating heart of the business designed to develop serial and racing models, an area spanning approximately 900 square metres has been set up as a workshop dedicated to restoring customers' historic Abarths. The restoration activities will be carried out with a high level of accuracy and will aim to ensure that any changes faithfully recreate the original conditions of the vehicle. To ensure compliance with the original designs and mechanics, Abarth will rely on a full range of documentation, including technical drawings, which has recently been catalogued and digitalised. This will also prove useful for the purpose of certifying the authenticity of the mechanical parts (engine, gearbox, exhaust and suspension), and when defining the certification procedures, Abarth has called upon on the advice and experience of the ASI (Historical Italian Automotoclub) and FIVA. The launch of the Officine Abarth Classiche is only the beginning of a larger project that envisages the creation of the Abarth Register, designed to bring all the enthusiasts of the brand together with a series of activities ranging from the participations in meetings to vintage car races, managed by the Automobile Club d'Italia, through Aci Storico. The Abarth Classiche project is also online at www.abarthclassiche.com. The face of the initiative is Anneliese Abarth, Carlo's wife, who enthusiastically accepted this role to publicise the long story of the company founded by her husband on 15 November 1949. An important story, marked from its very beginning by a string of successes and a wealth of inventive spirit. Starting with the victory in the 1100 Sport Italian Championships, with the 204A and in the Formula 2 field, then progressing to the great commercial success of the kits for transforming the Fiat 500 and 600 economy vehicles, which allowed many young and not so young enthusiasts to successfully try their hand at racing using everyday vehicles. Tens of vehicles were developed and built by Abarth between 1949 and 1971, the year in which the company was bought by Fiat, which continued developing its success stories, both in the racing field and commercially, with enhanced utility models such as the Abarth Autobianchi A112. These are all vehicles with a wide fan base in Italy and abroad, owned by an army of enthusiasts who conserve them with extreme dedication. From now on, these models can rediscover their original personality thanks to the Officine Abarth Classiche, where customers will be issued with a file containing all the information relative to the vehicles, lovingly restored to their former glory. The story of the Abarth brand is also told in a work composed of three volumes written by Sergio Seccatore and entitled "Abarth: the Scorpion's tale", created by the Italian Fiat Register. Abarth also tells its story through references to its current models, such as the 695 Biposto Record, manufactured in a limited series of only 133 cars: the same number as that of the records held by the Scorpion's vehicles. Instead, the anniversary of the quarter-mile acceleration record broken on 20 October 1965 was celebrated with the launch of the Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Record on the Mugello racetrack during the Italian Endurance Touring Championships. The full press release is available at "Text" link. Turin, 18 November 2015
